Builder nicked my candle!

Hi I had a limited edition Jo Malone candle in my downstairs loo that had never been used and has been treasured since 2009.
We have builders working in the garden this week and have come in to use loo twice yesterday.
Noticed candle has disappeared and it was 100 percent there yesterday. Both builders are acting normal and friendly.
AIBU to feel rather miffed. Haven't said anything DH wants to but I am not so sure.

Help!

Why would you put something treasured in the loo?

Why would you have a scented candle and not use it?

I cant get past these two questions!

WyfOfBathe · 06/12/2016 13:59

Why did you buy it and never light it? You know what candles are for, right?

Ask them and the rest of your family. Chances are someone knocked it off and put it in your bin (the builders not knowing that it was a "limited edition Jo Malone" or DC/DP knowing that it's precious and not wanting to own up). Or your DC have hidden it somewhere to wind you up.

maiacam · 06/12/2016 14:00

I havent lit it for 9 years as we were building a house!

X-posted with you saying it was only you there.

Just ask the builders, then.

DearMrDilkington · 06/12/2016 14:01

ask the builders if they saw the candle

Floggingmolly · 06/12/2016 14:02

It doesn't take nine years to build a house... How big is it??

maiacam · 06/12/2016 14:03

No the DC did not do that they were not here
Okay it was really not that treasured I just liked it
I think it got knocked off and they didnt want to say
it was in the loo as it matched the colour scheme

Were you there all day? Someone putting a fence in here had his girlfriend call round during the day.

Idiotxit · 06/12/2016 14:04

I'd be very suprised if a builder knew a jo Malone candle would be worth money

I'd love to know the reasoning behind this statement.

I agree that it's more likely to be a accident somewhere along the line and no one's fessed up.

maiacam · 06/12/2016 14:04

no it took 2 years but were living in rented for the rest

OP posts:
DearMrDilkington · 06/12/2016 14:04

Why don't you ask them..

Movingonuppppp · 06/12/2016 14:05

Builders only know about The Sun and Mars Bars they will have no idea about Jo Malone.

Of course they nicked it! Go and ask them. Fuckers!

OohMavis · 06/12/2016 14:05

Important question: What colour scheme is your bathroom?

You have to answer in order for us to get to the bottom of this for you.

Maudlinmaud · 06/12/2016 14:05

Has anyone suggested calling 101. Standard mn advice innit.

Idiotxit · 06/12/2016 14:06

I read something the other day…'Always use the good bath oil.' Meaning stop saving stuff 'for best' - you never know what the day will bring.

It really resonated with me and I got out the decent candles and bath oil and started using them.

Goingtobeawesome · 06/12/2016 14:06

Ask them if they've moved the candle?

velourvoyageur · 06/12/2016 14:07

I'd be very suprised if a builder knew a jo Malone candle would be worth money.

Why?

CatThiefKeith · 06/12/2016 14:09

Blimey. Very discerning builders you have there OP. My dad is a builder and most of his mates are tradesmen. Not one of them would know the difference between a Jo Malone and an Asda Living candle.

Ask them, or as another poster suggested check your bins/their skip.

MilkTwoSugarsThanks · 06/12/2016 14:10

Having just Googled Jo Malone candles... Why tf would anyone spend that much on a candle. Someone's laughing all the way to the bank!

PlumsGalore · 06/12/2016 14:11

Its a particularly candle friendly time of the year isn't it? Maybe Bob the Builder thought his wife might like it in her stocking. Pretty sure if it was in a jar and had been broken there would be some residue on the floor, just a sliver of glass.

DearMrDilkington · 06/12/2016 14:11

xit the majority of builders are male and I'm yet to meet a male that has an interest in candles. I hadn't heard of jo Malone candles until I joined mn, so I doubt a guy with no interest in candles would know it was worth money.

user1477282676 · 06/12/2016 14:12

So you didn't light it because you were living in a rented house? Confused Then you wouldn't light it because you were building a house?

I think it probably got up and buggered off of it's own accord to be frank.

SaucyJack · 06/12/2016 14:12

Look wherever in the garden they sat to have their tea-breaks just in case they lit it off the gas hob to light a cigarette with.

AndNothingElseMatters · 06/12/2016 14:12

Pinched it to give to his wife/girlfriend for Christmas, maybe?
