AIBU?

Builder nicked my candle!

Hi I had a limited edition Jo Malone candle in my downstairs loo that had never been used and has been treasured since 2009.
We have builders working in the garden this week and have come in to use loo twice yesterday.
Noticed candle has disappeared and it was 100 percent there yesterday. Both builders are acting normal and friendly.
AIBU to feel rather miffed. Haven't said anything DH wants to but I am not so sure.

Help!

Shock you have had the same candle for seven years?
That's why you should never save anything 'for best' enjoy it before some bugger steals/spoils it.

That sheepskin rug will be next to 'disappear', definitely - and don't even think about leaving your bubble bath and throws out, they'll be in the back of the van before you can say 'stick your hygge where the sun don't shine (although we'll keep your bacon), thank you very much Denmark'

I think someone - either your kids or your builders - broke it and didn't want to say anything. If one of your builders was keen to nick it, I think they'd wait until their last day with you for obvious reasons.

I don't think that builders necessarily wouldn't know it was worth money. Even if they're not interested in candles, they may well have partners or family members who are and who ask for them for presents. I just don't think they're likely to steal one from someone they're working for.

Jo Malone is such a household name of course the builders would know what it was! I knew of a builder who would happily pocket these "luxury" items from homes as little perks of the job for his wife.

You have to find a way of asking or you'll regret it when they've gone. Don't allow them to treat you this way - they think you're not going to notice an expensive candle has suddenly disappeared from your own bathroom?!

nothing else has gone as the loo is right by the front door and they didnt go anywhere else
Kids weren't in when they disappeared and they would have told me so that I cleared it up if they did it !

Yes I did know it was there as I saw it when I used the loo it was the only thing in the cloakroom other than handwash (tesco) and some toilet duck

Rather than it broke, have you considered they left a really bad smell in the toilet and burned the candle to get rid of the smell. Then removing the candle to hide their dirty disgusting secret.

just a bit Shock at this thread
the assumption builders must have nicked it
the assumption builders won't know who Jo Malone is
the keeping of the scented candle so long it won't be scented any more (plus, don't you have to dust it?)

That was a joke PrivatePike
I am only assuming they nicked/broken it as I was in house all day and it disappeared

I think builders would know who Jo Malone is

The reason I kept it so long is that I liked the colour and it looked good on my shelf

Thieving builders! They get on your wick!! lol!!

You really need a gardener and a butler, as well as a maid, a vicar, a lord and lady and chauffeur for the 'The Mystery of the Disappearing Candle' to even stand a chance of being a bestseller!

The point of a scented candle is to burn it and smell it surely? Keep it for seven years and never use it? 😂
Why?
If the builder uses it at least it us being used!
