To think blue lights are NOT Christmassy (light-hearted)

I have an irrational and completely unreasonable hatred of blue Christmas lights.

They look HORRIBLE! So cold, and so artificial. They remind me of being in an industrial freezer. Where there is possibly half a dead cow and a rampant serial killer.

Why would someone do this? WHY WHY WHY? Grin

Mother, is that you? Confused

DM used to say the same about blue lights at Christmas - unless they were in a set with yellow, red & green ones.

For me, twinkly lights = Christmas. Colour unimportant Xmas Grin.

Beeziekn33ze · 07/12/2016 16:31

No, they look cold.

UnexplainedOnHerCollar · 07/12/2016 16:31

Totally agree OP I HATE the cold blue lights. I once got some by mistake and was horrified when I switched them on - and had to bin them because like some PPs, they gave me a headache and made me feel ill.

Part of the joy of fairy lights is having your tree/mantlepiece all lit up and turning the main lights off and it's all nice and glowy and cosy. You can't do that with blue lights, it feel like you're in the room with a sci-fi force field.

NeverNic · 07/12/2016 16:37

I agree with Temporaryname on the 1st page. Warm white indoors and white blue out in our house. Until recently though I detested coloured lights, though I bought some this year!

Thissideof40 · 07/12/2016 16:38

I don't like them either. Not a fan of bright white ones either. I like the warm white lights that make the room look cosy.

MadisonAvenue · 07/12/2016 16:40

I have cold white lights on a small tree outside, same colour icicle lights and warm white on the inside tree. I like multicoloured lights too, they remind me of childhood Christmas.

I hate emergency services blue lights though. Our two doors down neighbour has them flashing away on a tree in her window as well as blue icicle lights and each time I look out I think that there's a major incident on the close.

sillylily · 07/12/2016 16:42

Blue lights are not my favourite but I'm not too bothered. What I do feel unreasonably strongly about is tinsel - I know some people say it's classier but I think a tree looks half-naked without any!

Oldraver · 07/12/2016 16:43

My neighbours taken from a distance...it looks like a Tardis

Where I live in the US, the blue ones are almost always for Hanukkah. My Jewish neighbors have them up now. I like them.

BroomstickOfLove · 07/12/2016 16:46

The people across the road from me had flashing blue lights last year, and the kitchen window has that distorting glass that lets light in but you can't actually see through and every time I went in my brain thought it was the emergency services. It was surprisingly stressful and it was such a relief when they took the lights down.

torthecatlady · 07/12/2016 16:48

As a child I loved multi-coloured lights, but as an adult I now love "warm white" lights. Blue is my least favourite of the three, but thankfully everyone is different Wink

IDismyname · 07/12/2016 16:49

I started the very same thread last year!

They are plain awful.

I think we should all send the blue lights to Oz, where Peepshow says they look good as they offset the searing heat.

Any other hot countries looking for a cooler look to Christmas should also apply...

Hillbilly29 · 07/12/2016 16:51

Deadringer could be time to accidently step on the bulbs - catches the first train out of town.....

PatMullins · 07/12/2016 16:56

I mix warm and cold lights and my tree looks fucking gorgeous Xmas Shock

DavetheCat2001 · 07/12/2016 16:57

HRTFT but I'm not a blue Xmas lights fan either.

My knobby neighbour puts them all over the outside of his house and you can't get away from the horrible glare of them, even with the blinds down.

I always think it makes his house look like a cab shop.

Didiplanthis · 07/12/2016 16:58

Currently have horrible blue ones on a tree outside as picked up the wrong ones and am too tight to throw out. But in my defense I live in the middle of no where and hopefully they are only offending me !

DavetheCat2001 · 07/12/2016 16:59

One of our neighbours at the back of our house decided to put rows of blue lights along his garden and up only his decking.

It looks like a landing strip Confused

MrsHughesCarson · 07/12/2016 17:01

I couldn't agree more. I accidentally bought some blue lights a few years ago, never mind, I thought, Christmas lights never last long, the sodding things are still going strong. I think this could be the year they have a fatal accident and I shall just have to replace them.

Butterpuff · 07/12/2016 17:03

I love all the lights Xmas Grin all together. Hate coordinated Christmas decorations and think that more should be bought every year and added to the confusion for a proper tacky Christmas effect. You lot would hate my back garden. I hope none of you are my neighbors. Xmas Wink

Phantommagic · 07/12/2016 17:10

I started back with a few coloured ones last year and have bought even more for this year. They made me so happy last Christmas. I felt like I was nine once more!

FlappysMammyAndPopeInExile · 07/12/2016 17:14

Sent DH for some lights last year - I wanted red for preference, but told him "Any colour but blue - I don't like blue lights."

Of course, back he came with - blue lights! I said- "I told you no blue." "They were the only ones left. What's wrong with them?" Well, everything, actually.

NOT a Christmas colour - cold, brutal almost and - just NONONONONO!

They are still in the box.

moggle · 07/12/2016 17:14

I don't like those cold blue lights either, not a big fan of cold white though I have to grudgingly admit our neighbours outdoor display with cold white is quite nice.
Is it just me whose eyes can't quite focus on the cold blue lights? They always look slightly fuzzy to me...

PlumsGalore · 07/12/2016 17:15

I don't mind blue but I wouldn't pick them, but I detest with a passion multi coloured Ones, I think they are tasteless. Even worse when just thrown aimlessly on heldges and in trees when it's light without checking what they look like in the dark.

CauliflowerBalti · 07/12/2016 17:26

PatMullins - we have a mix of cold white and warm white lights this year, because once again we chose a modest-sized tree at the garden centre and it turned into a ceiling scraper when we got home I thought we'd experiment with two sets.

It does indeed look amazing. They really work together.

True blue lights are just weird. How are they even a Christmas thing? White is icy, warm white is candley, multicoloured is jolly, blue is Ambulancey.

YouHadMeAtCake · 07/12/2016 17:30

YANBU I have always thoroughly disliked blue lights.
