To think blue lights are NOT Christmassy (light-hearted)

I have an irrational and completely unreasonable hatred of blue Christmas lights.

They look HORRIBLE! So cold, and so artificial. They remind me of being in an industrial freezer. Where there is possibly half a dead cow and a rampant serial killer.

Why would someone do this? WHY WHY WHY? Grin

Blue lights are my favourite. I always spot them first when I am driving around noticing other people's nice lights.

Kel1234 · 06/12/2016 21:06

I quite like the blue. We have some ice blue decorations and I love them.

SantaPleaseBringMeEwanMcGregor · 06/12/2016 21:21

I always thought they were introduced so those celebrating Hanukkah could have something other than white lights, and the Christmas crowd cottoned on to them.

SoupDragon · 06/12/2016 21:49

I've just driven around several side streets dropping assorted children off and not once did I see blue lights and think "oooh! There's an ambulance/fire engine/police car!"

You must all be bonkers or easily confused.

3Lucky
A 3 metre extension lead won't work. Plug is indoors and thick lead won't fit out window.

Blue lights anger me every year. Hate. HATE.

I tell you what I am coming round to though - coloured lights! I've always been a warm white kind of gal and have invested far too much money in them now to change BUT a coloured light reminds me of a good ol' 80's Christmas.

shovetheholly · 07/12/2016 07:48

snowballs Shock at evil fairies in your tree!

I always thought that if I ever got to design the V&A Christmas tree (which obviously will happen one day, because I'm not remotely in the design world) I would do a bordello-style one (with a disturbing undercurrent) about the sex industry. Maybe I can borrow your lights once the invite arrives? Grin

Last night I too drove through a town festooned with lights, many blue and not once did they look like emergency services. I'll be putting up my blue icicles at the weekend. Muticoloured on the tree and the garden wall, blue on the house, no boring white.

shovetheholly · 07/12/2016 08:34

Wer, that tree looks totally evil. Not as evil as this one though (genuine garden ornament from Skymall)

I think this is a must for my bordello tree.

(Why? Just why?)

I've only just skim read the thread; I have met my soulmates! DC mock me for my anti-blue lights for Christmas. In fact every time we go past a blue themed display/tree they say "I love blue lights, just not for Christmas" as ironically I really like that blue colour, just not for Christmas.😁

LostMyBigGirlPants · 07/12/2016 09:55

holly. Too much?

shovetheholly · 07/12/2016 10:01

There can be no 'too much' for the V&A bordello tree; my entire design will be premised on a riotous celebration of bawdy tastlessness.

Sperm bauble, anyone?

I agree but even worse than blue lights are rope lights! They are for the dance floor people! (Child of the 80s).

And don't get me started on the ones that flash. All at once. Lights on, lights off. Gah bleurgh

fruityb · 07/12/2016 10:04

I dislike the blue ones intensely!! They're just too loud and not pleasant to look at, and they can hurt my eyes. I love white ones, can cope with multicoloured ones. I hate it when people have ones that flash but two sets that do two different things. It bothers me. My dad used to have some lovely pinky purple ones. I loved those.

So festive!

We're definitely verging closer to pornographic here! Xmas Wink

Sleepandchocolate · 07/12/2016 16:14

Oops some of my outside lights are blue. They don't flash on and off though.

ragdoll700 · 07/12/2016 16:14

I really like coloured lights we used to have warm white every year couldnt find the plug this year so we used the coloured ones and im glad we did. I wouldnt choose to have blue though.

Oldraver · 07/12/2016 16:26

I love multi-coloured lights and dont mind blue mixed in, but not keen on blue on its own. My neighbour has a big blue thing (maybe tree) in his bay window and it is left on all night and is a bit glary.

Still, I have disco lights so who am I to criticise

Badders123 · 07/12/2016 16:28

I like them all....white, multi coloured, blue...
Lovely ❄️😀
