AIBU to think it's silly that DS can't wear these to nursery?

DS had some leggings on today - they're gorgeous! They have monsters on (not scary) but apparently he isn't allowed to wear them? They don't have a uniform, but apparently a Mum said that they scared her daughter Confused WTAF.

I could see how they'd worry or scare a sensitive child. I think leggings and littk jogging bottoms are perfect for all little children imho it gives them plenty of moving space and easy to wash and replace if they get dirty or worn etc .. personally i hate jeans or denim on children as it's so restrictive and makes them look too adult. Each to their own

BippityBoppityBullshit · 29/11/2016 20:09

Would it make the naysayers feel better if I posted a screenshot of the post I made telling Nat about this? I completely get why some of you are cynical BTW - I would be. But honestly i was fart arsing around because i didn't want to go to Toys R Us and so I was on mumsnet when I shouldn't be and saw this. Scouts honour

bumsexatthebingo · 29/11/2016 20:09

It's not the link that's the issue. It's the actual seller appearing on the thread and advertising her products and offering discout codes. Mumsnet sell advertising if businesses want to buy it.

user1477282676 · 29/11/2016 20:10

I think it's the combo of black and that bright blue coupled with the quite sharp looking monsters.

I can also see how a sensitive child might be disturbed by the images.

Of course they're not "scary" in reality but some children do react strongly to silhouettes.

MollyHuaCha · 29/11/2016 20:12

Boo. The largest is age 4. I'm a few sizes bigger than that. And with all this free advertising, they are selling out fast... 😄

bumsexatthebingo · 29/11/2016 20:12

It doesn't really bother me if the seller knows the op or has just hijacked the thread to advertise her business for free. Either way it's poor form.

Maudlinmaud · 29/11/2016 20:15

Umm did someone say they are available in adult sizes, I'd really like a pair for myself. Totally for sleeping in Grin

BippityBoppityBullshit · 29/11/2016 20:15

I get that bit bumsex - a report has been made to remove the post but you know MNHQ can be slow to react and also it is 100% my fault for not pointing out the no advertising bit. I get what you are saying - everyone knows - but sometimes you do things without thinking. And some posters are insinuating that the OP has made this thread up to then come on and offer a discount under another name - I was hoping to clear that bit up!

SomewhatIdiosyncratic · 29/11/2016 20:15

DS is scared of the pictures on the banners at the edge of the swimming pool during his swimming lesson. Pre-schoolers have all kinds of random fears. Changing the world around them to avoid them doesn't help them to deal with them.

Asking him not to wear the leggings is very precious.

BippityBoppityBullshit · 29/11/2016 20:19

Basically I feel like a bit of a shit because me and my big mouth caused this whole conspiracy mess.

Buddahbelly · 29/11/2016 20:21

annie if I come on and link to an amazing offer to share with you all for half price toys at argos then that's fine.

If i come and link to my own business with a discount code to get you all to go look then thats not allowed. Its all right there in the rules when you sign up and can and has equalled bans for posters doing it in the past.

I dont get how you dont really understand the difference?

and for what its worth I do believe you OP, It's just a coincidence that its all happened on your thread. And sorry the leggings are cute and the other child is going to have trouble in the future if the mum wraps her up in bubble wrap over everything she cries at.

TinselTwins · 29/11/2016 20:30

I didn't realise boys in leggings was a thing, but frankly they look ridiculous on a boy

No they don't, the only ones that look ridiculous are the ones dressed in impractical "little man" outfits that are restrictive and prevent them from beginning to learn independance wih dressing because of silly grown-up style zips and buttons.

Toddlers (boys or girls) look like toddlers dressed appropriately for the things that toddlers like to do in leg gins

Soubriquet · 29/11/2016 20:34

So what is the "appropriate" toddler boy trouser wear anyway?

Ds has leggings and thicker jogging bottom type ones. I don't like jeans on toddlers

SouthofMaui · 29/11/2016 20:34

TinselTwins

hahaha you do realise that there is a happy medium between dressing like a clown and wearing an impractical outfit.

So, yes, boys look ridiculous in leggings. There. Biscuit

DailyMailJournosSmell · 29/11/2016 20:36

I don't get MNHQ on advertising. There are threads in chat 'advertising' books with links and comments by the Authors that are allowed to stand.

Is it only ok to 'advertise' if you are a popular mumsnetter?

dontpresume · 29/11/2016 20:48

Of course boys can wear leggings.

I know a child who has an irrational fear. It is awful for him. If this were it, he could not go to school.

Rare perhaps, but it can happen.

TheGruffaloMother · 29/11/2016 20:50

Don't clowns wear really wide, baggy pants? Not leggings with monsters on? Hmm

Suspect you're just being facetious to get a reaction now South. There's a word for that.

ToniMumsnet · 29/11/2016 21:06

Hi all,
Thanks for the reports about this thread. However, we do not feel that any of the Talk Guidelines have been broken.

Thank you

CozumelFox · 29/11/2016 21:34

If my kid claimed to be 'scared' of funny monster pants I'd tell them to get over it.

If my kid was the wearer, they'd be wearing them a lot more often until the other kid got over it.

SouthofMaui · 29/11/2016 21:44

Suspect you're just being facetious

not really, I was just trying to stay polite and not offend anyone by saying what I really think, and couldn't come up with a better and neutral word than clown Grin

I have never noticed any boy in leggings in the various baby groups and nurseries mine go to, I don't think they are that popular around here.

Nanny0gg · 29/11/2016 21:47

Scary? In what world?

Bit of a special snowflake, that little girl.

dontpresume · 29/11/2016 21:53

Some fairly depressing attitudes on here.

Glad that children with (possible) phobias can be fixed by their parents being told to get a grip etc.

None of us know what anyone is dealing with.

SparkyBlue · 29/11/2016 21:57

They are very cute

MrsNuckyThompson · 29/11/2016 22:00

I would just keep sending him in the leggings. Daily. Washing and drying them every evening just to make a sodding point!!

dontpresume · 29/11/2016 22:02

What is the point you would be making?
