day time tv watching, is lazy and only to be done when sick

is how i was brought up and i cannot get away from that feeling.

i may be lazy and be mumsnetting but to physically go and turn on the TV seems wrong.
I expect I am in the minority, judging by comments

but you could compare internet to reading a newspaper/magazine

It's a long long day to be one-on-one with a toddler without the aid of CBeebies.

Even when I was young, before the advent of dedicated children's TV channels, we would watch videos.

DH and I watch TV during the day as we work shifts and sometimes aren't home in the evenings. Its our downtime, just like when people with 'normal' jobs watch TV in the evenings.

You feel like that because daytime tv is utter dross and makes you feel like your brain is seeping out of your ears. Apart from say 'yes to the dress', which is fabulous. I always get loads done if I don't have the tv on in the background.

I do think that being on the internet is no better though. I have wasted hours on mn - it is strangely addictive.

I have the TV on in the background when I work sometimes; I concentrate better with background noise.

I'm not sure this is a rational belief. What logical reason is there for it to make me lazy? What if I was working out with the TV on? Is it somehow lowering my IQ as I work?

It seems a bit needlessly judgy. I can take it or leave it but I wouldn't want an ingrained belief that daytime TV = bad.

I do love the occasional day of catch up tv when the kids are at school though. I actually get to watch it, without interruption, which is bliss.

I watch tv in the day. Netflix stuff mainly. It's my favourite thing to do. All three DC are at school and housework doesn't take six hours. It's bliss.

My mother thinks it's awfully lazy. I give zero fucks.

God I love this! Ds and I are snuggled up now watching films, and my most favorite day is when I book a day off work and go through my sky planner with loads of snacks. My mum is similar!

As a disclaimer this is a 'treat' so I probably couldn't do it every day - I have intense jealousy towards those that can though!

It might well be lazy but what's wrong with being lazy unless you have other things you need to be doing? A bit of watching TV is fine.

I have daytime TV on, not because I'm watching it particularly, but because it gives the illusion of company. When you spend days on your own, it kind of makes you feel as though there are others around.

Daytime TV (Jeremy Kyle, Bargain Hunters etc) is not the same as watching TV in the day. Which could mean box sets.

Personally, I view Sunday as a day where boxsets should be watched back to back until bedtime.

I have the TV on whenever I am at home (although I'm usually out during the day) - if people want to judge me for it, they can fuck off ^^

I have the radio on but associate daytime tv with a time over 25 years ago when I was unemployed and depressed. I hate it but have no problem with others watching it.

Although I usually watch satellite channels or something on the planner rather than the shit they put on Bbc/itv

Ha now you mention it... I often have the tv on in the day at home but I'm currently in my parents house, DS is napping and it hasn't even occurred to me to put the tv on!
