is how i was brought up and i cannot get away from that feeling.

i may be lazy and be mumsnetting but to physically go and turn on the TV seems wrong.
I expect I am in the minority, judging by comments

but you could compare internet to reading a newspaper/magazine

Which is also lazy if you have other things you should be doing during the day.

NoahVale · 26/11/2016 12:08

agree worra, but more forgivable and more worthy

OP posts:
LagunaBubbles · 26/11/2016 12:13

I don't need "worthy" things to do when I'm relaxing though.

You can't easily cook dinner, clean the floor or do your filing while you read a magazine, but you can do all these things while watching Pointless. For me watching TV is something you do while doing something else that doesn't require your entire brain - like cleaning, cooking or eating lunch.

NoahVale · 26/11/2016 12:20

well no Gardengeek.
i admit to being lazy

PollyPerky · 26/11/2016 12:20

I agree. And breakfast TV is the worst of all. Radio 4 is my idea of fun though.

NoahVale · 26/11/2016 12:21

oh yes, Breakfast TV.
grim

I do a lot of work from home. I might be guilty of having Bergerac and Lovejoy on whilst doing my emails and marketing.

Catam · 26/11/2016 12:23

I guess I must be super not lazy then since I don't even have a tv itv player & channel 4 catch up tho

I do get what you mean tho OP as I was raised to think it was unforgivable to not finish your meal not usually a problem it has taken me decades to be able to stop eating when I want without feeling guilty.

WhoKnowsWhereTheT1meG0es · 26/11/2016 12:23

Same here, I know it's ok to do it but I just can't. I rarely even sit down in the living room during the day, I need to be doing stuff all the time.

limitedperiodonly · 26/11/2016 12:24

If you are supposed to be working then MNetting is appallingly lazy because you can't work and be on Mumsnet.

If you have nothing to do then you can do whatever you like - whether it's watching Jeremy Kyle or the Daily Politics.

There are quite worthy daytime TV and radio programmes, if you look OP. Some of them are even more educational than Mumsnet.

diddl · 26/11/2016 12:26

I get you Op.

I don't usually put the TV on until the evening to actually sit & watch something.

That's not to say I never watch anything in the daytime, but I would put it on for a specific programme then swith off again.

I don't really get the putting the TV on "for the sake of it".

FlyingElbows · 26/11/2016 12:28

I too was brought up with the idea that television in the daytime was a terrible thing. My mother's main fear seemed to be that we might catch "working class" from it. Soap operas were banned as apparently they sap your intellect with their laser beams. When I grew up I realised my mother was a batshit crazy insufferable snob who was ruining her own life by sneering at everyone she considered lesser. I sacked her off and the television is on whenever we want in my house. I also eat frozen peas (yes, even peas are a "working class" intellect sapping risk to humanity) by the tonne and am yet to find myself unable to function. Why anyone would waste their life caring if other people watch the telly is beyond me.

bluetongue · 26/11/2016 12:29

I watch TV during the day and Mumsnet at the same time Grin

ThumbWitchesAbroad · 26/11/2016 12:32

I love having the house to myself so I can switch the tv off! DH is bad for having it on during the day, and I admit I leave it on the Aussie equivalent of CBeebies for DS2 if he's here - he plays while it's on, and ignores it a lot of the time but gets really cross if I switch it off (I know, I know). We're out a fair bit as well so it's not like he watches it all day every day.

I do sometimes turn it on while I eat lunch if I'm on my own, but only if something I like is on (like Medium, or Charmed, both of which had the lunch hour slot for aaages!)

BillyDaveysDaughter · 26/11/2016 12:32

I'll do whatever the fuck I like. People can think I'm lazy if they wish, I couldn't give a shiny shite. I work full time, my conscience is clear and I'm worthy just as I am thanks, regardless of what I do with my downtime.

That said, I loathe weekday daytime TV. I tend to put music on.

BillyDaveysDaughter · 26/11/2016 12:35

I cross posted with you elbows. I had a similar upbringing, couldn't wait to be free and indulge in "working class"!

My dear stepfather will be spinning in his grave, gawd luv 'im.

Runny · 26/11/2016 12:36

My DM always watched daytime TV, but in the afternoon only. She used to be obsessed with those really awful Aussie soaps that would be on then, like Sons and Daughters, The Young Doctors, A Country Pratice and obvioulsy Neighbours, and would watch them religiously.

Personally my favourite is Heir Hunters Blush. Also used to love This Morning when Richard and Judy and then later Phil and Fern. Can't stand it nowadays though.

ChickenVindaloo2 · 26/11/2016 12:36

Wasn't this thread meant to be lighthearted?

Can't we just laugh that many of us hoik our judgey pants up at OURSELVES?!

BillyDaveysDaughter · 26/11/2016 12:37

Noticed I said I work full time yet loathe daytime TV. To clarify, I work from home a lot, which is when I put music on.

ego147 · 26/11/2016 12:37

Aaaah. The Young doctors

Happy days
