What is so wrong with Hillary?

I know I know, not another one of these threads but I'm struggling to understand why everyone hates her so much.

I know she has been accused of corruption but nothing has stuck and it doesn't seem to be any worse than her male counterparts- is it because she's a woman?

AIBU to ask you to point me to some facts as to what she has done to be so hated? I'm genuinely interested.

"I also read that people believe a good number of people associated with the Clintons have died or gone missing."

FFS; this sort of allegation just proves how much of the Hillary loathing comes from utter lies and invention.

Must admit I've never found her terribly inspiring, and as a massive Washington insider she wasn't a great choice this time round. But a lot of the bile is simply because she is a woman who wanted the top job.

Pluto30 · 09/11/2016 20:24

It's got nothing to do with her being a woman. Many people, myself included (who supported Trump over Hillary), would love to see Michelle Obama run in the future, and hope that Ivanka Trump plays a significant role in this presidency.

slightlypeevedwombat · 09/11/2016 20:26

"She lacks the trust of the electorate, the best analogy I have heard is imagine Cherie Blair running for president over here...the Blair's are viewed as dodgy, money hungry, corrupt, and out for themselves."

thats brilliant, makes total sense - in that case i would be umming a bit - but still couldnt vote for Trump

Overthinker2016 · 09/11/2016 20:27

She's a women and she stood by her man.

Never mind that she's competent, qualified, and dignified.

Never mind that Trump won't declare his taxes, allegedly raped his ex wife etc.

Misogyny. Pure and simple.

HanYOLO · 09/11/2016 20:28
  1. She's a woman. Basic misogyny deffo came into play. Plus lots of old rich white men didn't want to see their privilege eroded.
  2. She's a Clinton. Big problem.
  3. She's establishment through and through. Exit polls said people were motivated by "change", especially those in rural areas. She couldn't deliver that in the way they wanted, nothing suggested that she was interested in doing so.
  4. Scandals and the nature of their disclosure
  5. She's not, actually, particularly liberal and she isn't Bernie Saunders

That said, she got the popular vote. By a tiny margin, but she got it.

DistanceCall · 09/11/2016 20:28

Trump did not win because the disenfranchised supported him.

twitter.com/paulmasonnews/status/796287909045370880

I do think that the United States as a country are much more racist and misogynistic than we had believed. This is the backlash after eight years of Obama.

Overthinker2016 · 09/11/2016 20:28

"a lot of people died or went missing"

What utter rubbish.

goddessofsmallthings · 09/11/2016 20:29

I'd also like to see Michelle Obama running in the future, Pluto, but I think that, for the foreseeable future at least, Americans have had enough of dynastic politicians

HanYOLO · 09/11/2016 20:29

Pluto, tell us why you voted Trump?
How will it make your life better, do you think?

Elendon · 09/11/2016 20:30

She's a woman. How anyone could choose a hard working politician over Trump, who has never served in public office, over her is quite frankly unbelievable. And those who did should be ashamed of themselves.

Michelle Obama gave her full support to Hilary Clinton.

DrDreReturns · 09/11/2016 20:31

She's been very unpopular with certain sections of American society since the mid nineties. The Cherie Blair analogy is a good one imo.
Personally I'd have voted for her as the lesser of the two evils.

Boolovessulley · 09/11/2016 20:32

It's because she is held to much higher stAndards than a man ever would be.

I cannot imagine her getting as far as she did if she had done the things that Trp has been. Accused of.

I also doubt an adulterous woman who is on her second marriage would get elected either.
Yet people hold her accountable for her husbands sex life.

Want2bSupermum · 09/11/2016 20:32

Her dishonest extends to accepting funds from foreign governments for the Clinton Foundation while Secretary of State. The email issue is minor in the grand scheme of things but I would be in disgrace if I was found guilty of either event. HC just shrugged it off because she has continually gotten away with things.

Also, she didn't understand how scared and fed up people are with jobs being shipped out of the country. We have huge swaths of adults who want to work and can't find a job because jobs have been shipped off overseas. There is a huge issue with heroin in typically middle class neighbourhoods, in part because people don't see a future.

The other big issue was the HC is in the pockets of so many special interests and there was a higher likelihood of going to war with her compared to Trump.

Had it been Sanders vs Trump Sanders would have won it hands down. I think a lot of Sanders voters switched to Trump.

roundaboutthetown · 09/11/2016 20:32

Bollocks that it's nothing to do with her being a woman. They interviewed an American woman on radio 4, yesterday, who quite clearly said that a woman should not run for President of the United States (and that as a she was a good Christian, she felt Trump should be forgiven for his groping mistakes of the past). If a woman could think that, I'm 100% certain a fair number of fundamentalist Christian men do, too.

Overthinker2016 · 09/11/2016 20:34

How is she the lesser of two evils? How is she evil exactly? She's a saint compared to Trump.

user1475253854 · 09/11/2016 20:34

She isn't 'likeable' to women, but women don't need to find men likeable (in this instance DT) to vote for them.

AmberEars · 09/11/2016 20:34

I think there was definitely a misogynistic element to this - not the only element, of course, but part of it Angry

Want2bSupermum · 09/11/2016 20:35

For those of you who think HC was held to higher standards, I don't think so. She has gotten away with a lot. This was a filthy campaign and it was democrats who did a lot of dirty tricks. People saw right through them and didn't like it.

The media thought they were helping HC but I think their coverage of her was awful. I think people felt patronized when told who they should vote for. We know Trump is bad but at no point did they communicate what HCs plans were.

roundaboutthetown · 09/11/2016 20:36

As for Clinton being more likely to take America to war.... I think Trump is more likely to provoke a world war. Still, there might be American jobs in it. They made their fortune on the last two world wars.

Boolovessulley · 09/11/2016 20:36

I don't think another woman will stand for a long time.
The message is clear, women are not welcome.
I really doubt Michelle Obama would be popular, she's s woman AND black.

EssentialHummus · 09/11/2016 20:38

These are both worth reading OP:

I'm incredibly saddened that these were the two candidates that were apparently the best each party had to offer but, there you go.

Want2bSupermum · 09/11/2016 20:38

If Elizabeth Warren, Michelle Obama or Kristen Gillibrand run for office at the next election watch them win it. All three women are very respected democrats who truly have the potential to be the first American President.

DrDreReturns · 09/11/2016 20:39

Overthinker2016 see Want2bSupermum's posts. I think they were both rubbish candidates, that's why I said lesser of two evils.

Pluto30 · 09/11/2016 20:42

Han I didn't vote for him. I'm not in the US. I said I supported him over her. I would've voted for him if I were in the US however, and hope that the politicians where I am learn from this and the general rise in popularity of populist/nationalist politicians (and Brexit).

Trump's election showed in one fell swoop that people have been disproportionately affected by the rapid move towards globalisation. When coupled with the issues in the Middle East, the recession which impacted the US more than anywhere else, they've felt totally left behind by people like Obama, who they saw as a beacon of hope initially. Clinton is more of the same (worse), and they saw nothing to lose by voting for Trump. I don't think many of us can understand that hopelessness, to be honest.

Clinton was totally unable to empathise with that group of people, and she showed no interest in ever being able to do so.

What Trump will or won't do, only time can tell. But I think his election will, at minimum, shake the establishment up and force them to reflect on themselves over the next four years.

Bue · 09/11/2016 20:42

The internalised misogyny on this thread is very, very sad. Look at yourselves! Look how many of you on this thread have taken on board the message that women must be held to a far higher standard than men running for the same job. That it's somehow more acceptable to a serial sexual assaulter of women than it is to "unlikeable". That she is "the lesser of two evils" - what in god's name has she ever done that was evil? I despair.
