"Let's hope he can drain the swamp really deep." What do you mean South?

It means she's read a meme.

PrettyBotanicals · 09/11/2016 11:29

surely there can't be that many ignorant racist mysogynist US men willing to lumber from their lazy boy chairs to vote for him. Sadly the answer is like Brexit, even outwardly rational and intelligent people chose not to think about the consequences of their actions logically but were swayed by someone who deliberately chose to press their buttons.

Are you this sweepingly dismissive and keen to stereotype in all areas of your social interactions?

Do you single out people with, say, differing religious beliefs, or vegans/carnivores and lump them together pejoratively because their views differ from yours?

I'm not remotely surprised Trump won. I listened to a lot of Americans in the run up to the election, rather than swallowing and regurgitating wholesale the Brexit-esque rhetoric of our biased media who dismiss, as you do, 'thick racists' because their politics are different.

Ironic, amusing and predictable in equal measure.

The attention-seeking hysteria and'terror' (grow up, there are children listening) here today is the last GE and Brexit all over again.

And still you don't get it?

GinAndTunic · 09/11/2016 11:32

Except, of course, there is the small matter of an allegation versus acts that actually happened. There were allegations during the campaign that Bill Clinton was a rapist and that he fathered a child with a black prostitute. But they are allegations and lack proof.

I get that you want to paint Trump in as dark a light as possible, but it is helpful to stick to the facts and not rumours.

Blossomdeary · 09/11/2016 11:32

I agree - there is a groundswell of relatively poor folk both here and the US who are sick to death of political elites not listening to them - the arrival of someone who appears to be promising them utopia was too much to resist. Add in the fear of extremism and terrorism, which has been used as a lever, and here we have it - Trump and Putin - what a bloody world.

Sadly those who are hoping for utopia are about to be dreadfully disappointed.

Oh...and lets not forget the gun culture in the US, that is something else to add into the mix.

A bad day indeed.

Southallgirl · 09/11/2016 11:33

Peace It's a term he used in his campaign, to clear out all the dodgy congressmen, senators esconced in their cushy jobs, receiving a good salalry & perks but doing very little for it. And also not voting on issues that constituents require, but rather what Big Business representatives dictate. They are enriching only themselves and private interests, foreign dictators but never the public. Quiet a fiefdom.

BoredofBrexit · 09/11/2016 11:34

Southall Girl, as spot on as ever. Well said at 11.18

winterisnigh · 09/11/2016 11:34

Farage is our most valuable foreign policy asset... Yep

I caught a little of an ITV discussion program, Farage was on and was pushed to say whether he would work for Trump.
He said IF he could - Trumps Ambassador to the EU would be his chosen role Grin

Agree with child rape and sex scandal definitions.

winterisnigh · 09/11/2016 11:36

As I said, you have to give people an incentive to vote for you. Telling people that they are thick, stupid, racist and ignoring their concerns doesn't win votes, it just alienates people. Especially if your policies overtly benefit the wealthier members of society

Good post Bill.

Shall we start a petition, a lot of people now regret voting for him,

There's something inherently childish about this.

I'm upset. I know! Lets start a Petition!
The default setting for childish people.

rawsienna · 09/11/2016 11:39

We've had the whole childish, 'lets throw our rattles out of the pramstart a petition' with brexit.
Surely Amercians aren't that immature.

YetAnotherSpartacus · 09/11/2016 11:40

"Climate change? Well I don't really give a shit about it because I'm more worried about immediate things like putting food on the table next week".

Probably true. But in some parts of the world, there is no food for the table because of climate change.

blackhairbrush · 09/11/2016 11:40

That's why Corbyn is so popular with the 20 yr olds - school-level politics is all they understand

Do you really believe that? I am not a Corbyn fan, but that is a ridiculous statement.

user1471439240 · 09/11/2016 11:41

It is clear that to be elected in this new phase of world politics then the working classes must have a voice.
The years of shutting down debate with "ism" are surely over?
The polls are wrong time and time again - people are scared to even say they are voting for!
To be elected the Left need to listen to everyone, not just special causes.

winterisnigh · 09/11/2016 11:41

'Social justice? Well I've seen this so called 'social justice' before. And it seems to involve a lot of dumping people on benefits and prioritising minorities whilst ignoring the majority of the poor because they don't have a trendy skin tone or nationality or religion

Sighs, yes this too Bill.

BuntyFigglesworthSpiffington · 09/11/2016 11:42

Sadly those who are hoping for utopia are about to be dreadfully disappointed.

Indeed. What will happen when they realise that there are in fact no plans to re-open the coal mines and the steelworks in the midwest rustbelt.

val4 · 09/11/2016 11:42

To all Irish mns...

Trump has won 😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭
FelineJustFine · 09/11/2016 11:42

Yes, I find him to be a repugnant human being too, the only crumb of comfort was listening to his vic

JugglingFromHereToThere · 09/11/2016 11:43

Just to say it doesn't get more immature than Trump's politics.

So ner! Grin

derxa · 09/11/2016 11:43

We must have really underestimated how hated Clinton must be
I think people on here must be much younger than me and didn't live through events such as the impeachment of Bill Clinton.

BuntyFigglesworthSpiffington · 09/11/2016 11:45

There's probably a Trump impeachment in the future so at least they'll have that as a reference.

QueenLizIII · 09/11/2016 11:45

Which is what all the remainers did.

LittleLionMansMummy · 09/11/2016 11:45

OK let's stick to straight from the horse's mouth shall we Gin? Let's see if his own words paint a better picture:

^“I’ve gotta use some Tic Tacs, just in case I start kissing her. You know I’m automatically attracted to beautiful — I just start kissing them. It’s like a magnet. Just kiss. I don’t even wait.

“And when you’re a star they let you do it. “You can do anything.”

“Whatever you want,” says another voice, apparently Bush’s.

“Grab them by the pussy,” Trump says. “You can do anything.”^

That hilarious locker room banter and allegations, huh Gin?

nauticant · 09/11/2016 11:48

I wonder whether, like Brexit supporters, Trump supporters will get angrier and angrier as the reality of their victory sinks in.
