To be aghast if Trump loses?

Is there actually an Asylum big enough to take him and his ego? What will he do? How will he recover from his defeat? I'm also worried about Hill's voice - she'll have to do her acceptance speech just smiling knowingly.

Really???!!!! If you look at her track record it is a long consistent list of non delivery and failure.
Is that an actual track record or Trump's words?

Of course the alternative isn't much better. 4 x financial failure. Failed businesses. Fraudulent businesses.
I'd take Hillary's record any time.

Lweji · 08/11/2016 06:33

wasonthelist

Exactly.

For people thinking Trump is selfless, he's not running for the people.

throwingpebbles · 08/11/2016 07:02

I have a lot of family in America who are highly intelligent and educated, all of them are voting Clinton. the only risk is that some of their friends are "protest voting" and voting for the green candidate... They don't seem to get that that is in essence a vote for trump.

Glad (not sure that's the right word) that others have spotted the chilling analogies between the Trump campaign, the Leave campaign and, well, 1930s Germany.

SleightOfMind · 08/11/2016 11:25

Lord Ashcroft has spent the last week doing focus groups in swing states and noted a worrying trend. Many of those planning to vote for Trump have not disclosed this for fear of being mocked 'hassled' or thought less of by pollsters.
He also said that many people who have never voted before (so not on pollsters radars) are expected to turn out. These guys are not breaking their silence for Clinton.
I don't think we can put too much faith in the art of polling this time.
I'm dreading a Trump win but I've got a very sick feeling in my gut.

EnthusiasmDisturbed · 08/11/2016 11:36

i think the big worry is people not voting

not bothering as they do not like either candidate lets hope they do change their mind and vote to keep one candidate out (obviously i hope they are wanting to keep Trump out)

LowDudgeon · 08/11/2016 11:53

This article is good. It's all about the Supreme Court now & whether people want the balance towards libertarianism or authoritarianism

'Do you want a say in what that world will be like? I’m sorry, but there are only two choices. Him or her.
'Yes, I understand. You are furious at being put in a position to have to choose between the “lesser of two evils.” I do understand. It is infuriating. On the other hand, you must understand that “the lesser of two evils” is the only choice you’ve ever had in any election in which you’ve ever voted in your life! Jesus has never run for office. That leaves only the rest of us — you and me — well-meaning, good-hearted people who, despite our best intentions, have still managed to lie, cheat, and say things out loud for which we remain grateful to this day that no one recorded during what we thought was a private conversation.'

LowDudgeon · 08/11/2016 12:00

Oh, wait - maybe not so good when you get into the nitty-gritty Hmm

LowDudgeon · 08/11/2016 12:03

'Do you believe the United States should move toward a policy of “open borders”? Do you believe undocumented persons in the United States illegally should not only be allowed to stay, but issued driver’s licenses, food stamps, and provided medical care? Do you believe that if someone wishes to enter our country, they have every right to do so without explanation? If so, you must vote for her'

I don't believe she's said that at all? but some things she has said have been twisted (no surprise there then)

EnthusiasmDisturbed · 08/11/2016 12:31

I have just been reading about Vote Swapping

I have never heard of it before, but if you are in a safe seat/state for the party you support you can swap your vote with someone in an area where the party you support isn't so safe, so in America you could live in California (safe democrat) with someone in Florida (a swing state) but then wouldn't the person you are swapping with have similar political stance Confused

I am surprised this is allowed to happen but hopefully will go in Clinton's favour as the election in 2000 was decided on less than 600 votes Shock

WallisofWindsor · 08/11/2016 12:55

Well he will add it to this

To be aghast if Trump loses?
bumpetybumpbumpbump · 08/11/2016 13:06

I don't support either of them. I'm sure there are many many who disagree with Hillary so much that they feel they have no option but to vote for trump. How can we judge from the UK AND FROM THE MEDIA? I know loads of Americans who hate Obama and I will never get that.
We shall see.

BeALert · 08/11/2016 13:21

i think the big worry is people not voting

Early voting turnout has been incredibly high, and Democrats are more likely to vote early than Republicans. So actually people not voting today would benefit Hillary.

LowDudgeon · 08/11/2016 16:39

I've just seen this video on facebook.

Anti-Hillary ("crooked Hillary" "nasty Hillary" "criminal Hillary" "lying Hillary") should watch & ask themselves what Trump was doing with his life while she was doing all this - or do they think all this is lies too?

AteRiri · 08/11/2016 20:38

When will we know the result?

LowDudgeon · 08/11/2016 20:43

Florida, N Carolina & Pennsylvania are among the key states & luckily as they're E Coast we should know about them fairly early on - I think I heard 2am but don't quote me

But Florida took days in 2000 due to the hanging chads Hmm & other queries and I gather it's no better 16 years on. So don't hold your breath

AteRiri · 08/11/2016 20:45

I don't really understand the "key states". Does it mean whoever wins in the key states will win the election? How about the cumulative votes from the other states ?

LowDudgeon · 08/11/2016 20:50

it's like marginals over here. some states are guaranteed to go one way or the other.

LowDudgeon · 08/11/2016 20:51

eg Texas should be Republican & New York should be Democrat

HalfShellHero · 08/11/2016 20:52

All this Putin malarky I fear will get Trump some panic votes as he gets on with him. I hope it doesn't though....Confused

AteRiri · 08/11/2016 21:18

Is the winning counted per state?

Sorry ignorant about US elections!

Like it does not matter the total votes, but counted per state?

Like PA 1
CA 1
etc?

LowDudgeon · 08/11/2016 21:22

I don't get it either, AteRiri Confused Grin

no idea if electoral college votes reflect popular vote or the majority

am just about to google

LowDudgeon · 08/11/2016 21:23

looking at this, if you win the popular vote in a state you get the whole state's electoral college votes

en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Electoral_College_(United_States)

LowDudgeon · 08/11/2016 21:27

but that is dependent on population

hence
55 in California
38 in Texas
29 in NY
29 in Florida
20 in Pennsylvania (I think)
20 in Illinois

& descending from there

cardibach · 08/11/2016 21:51

The constitution also allows the electoral college to override the popular vote - i.e. If Texas voted for Trump but the Texan college members thought that was a terrible idea they could declare for Clinton. Won't happen in practice I wouldn't have thought, though.

Bummymummy77 · 08/11/2016 22:09

You're all blathering on about how crazy it is Trump has got this far but cough cough brexit.......
