To Be Upset That My Alledged Best Friend Has Invited My Ex-H Over For Sups?

OhCallistoSolo · 01/11/2016 21:57

Looking for some perspective here as I really don't know if I'm being unreasonable or not.

I haven't been invited by my best friend for supper (or anything else for that matter) since January. My ex-h has been invited twice that I know of, and the other couple we all see have been regular visitors. My best friend, with and without her husband, has been for sups with me countless times. Every time she comes over she tells me that she must invite me round for sups. Am I being over-sensitive to feel really upset that my ex-h gets and invite when I don't?

Poor OP!

steff13 · 01/11/2016 22:18

I always thought sups was slang for blow job

In that case, the OP is definitely not being unreasonable.

Ledkr · 01/11/2016 22:19

Or poor oppsie

SaucyJack · 01/11/2016 22:19

Should OP be "ops"?

GetOutMyCar · 01/11/2016 22:19

Is it a regional thing? I used to hear 'sups' a lot growing up in the north west. Never heard it at all when I moved down south.

DamePastel · 01/11/2016 22:19

I think that's a nosh. Grin

AnchorDownDeepBreath · 01/11/2016 22:20

Yeah sups is definitely slang for blow job round here. I thought it was everywhere, the title made me Shock

ClashCityRocker · 01/11/2016 22:20

I saw the title, and wondered how many posts we would get to before the use of the word 'sups' was questioned.

What do you mean by supper? Is it tea/dinner? Supper to me is a hot chocolate and toast or a biscuit. It would be weird to invite anybody.

Assuming you mean the evening meal, i agree it's a little odd - but was she friends with your ex anyway? Difficult to say without knowing the circumstances but if he's taken the breakup hard, maybe she's worried he's not coping or eating?

PrettyBotanicals · 01/11/2016 22:20

I think there's a certain type of woman who rather enjoys feeding (newly) single men.

I'd tell her you are a bit upset that you haven't been invited to supper.

I'd also ignore the inverse snobbery here. Lots of perfectly lovely normal people call it 'sups.'

It's the 'tea' brigade who'd have your ex round for something microwaved then make a pass after too much Pinot.

ClashCityRocker · 01/11/2016 22:22

My boss at work invited our team for a 'group nosh'.

I was very glad that he was just taking us to the pub for lunch.

wooooofudge · 01/11/2016 22:22

I am from the north west, still live there and have never seen or heard 'sups' before tonight. Supper was what some southern folk at uni called tea.

MrsHandles · 01/11/2016 22:22

Sups?! YABincrediblyU to use the word 'sups'.

Maybe ex-h is 'supping' her and that's why you're never invited. Or it could just be because of your use of sups...

ArmySal · 01/11/2016 22:23

It's the 'tea' brigade who'd have your ex round for something microwaved then make a pass after too much Pinot.

So "ignore the inverse snobbery" yet act so sneery yourself? Good grief.

ChasedByBees · 01/11/2016 22:24

Katienana: "what posh people call dinner. I have a friend who said this and we were like "huh? Supper is toast and a glass of milk!"

Gosh, for me, dinner is what posh people call tea. Grin

ClashCityRocker · 01/11/2016 22:24

Oi pretty that's not on!

I'd have him round for dinner and make benny hill style innuendos until the point where neither of us were sure whether we were having something fruity with whipped cream for dessert pudding or having a shag.

MaddyHatter · 01/11/2016 22:26

sups?

what a horrible word when used like that.. its has its own meaning!

that aside, yanbu.. ask her about it.

I have never heard anyone use 'sups'!

But anyway, she's being insensitive. Yanbu.

SaucyJack · 01/11/2016 22:29

I'm not offended.

I've just never heard anyone actually say it.
