To Be Upset That My Alledged Best Friend Has Invited My Ex-H Over For Sups?

OhCallistoSolo · 01/11/2016 21:57

Looking for some perspective here as I really don't know if I'm being unreasonable or not.

I haven't been invited by my best friend for supper (or anything else for that matter) since January. My ex-h has been invited twice that I know of, and the other couple we all see have been regular visitors. My best friend, with and without her husband, has been for sups with me countless times. Every time she comes over she tells me that she must invite me round for sups. Am I being over-sensitive to feel really upset that my ex-h gets and invite when I don't?

I have been on mn for over 13 years and lately it is a place I don't recognise. It used to be wonderfully supportive

Did other oldtimers get a MN delivery of rose tinted glasses that I didn't receive?

MN used to be hella scary! If you didn't know the in jokes and the worshipped regulars you had better dare not post! Its a lot less insular these days

witchofzog · 02/11/2016 19:05

yuck it could be scary too (til Moldies!)but most of the responses to an op were generally helpful, constructive and supportive. The ones from the scary in joke people were usually in the minority. This has just been pages and pages of who can take the piss most and who can outdo who with funniness at the expense of the op.

Some of the posters are bound to have divorces or separations under their belts and I bet they would not have liked it either had their best friends been having cosy dinners with their ex.

YuckYuckEwwww · 02/11/2016 19:16

nah, most repsonses all agreed with the queen bees either way and if you didn't or if they didn't agree with your OP, god help you!

I didn't use to post just lurk, now anyone can dive in and there's no hierarchy or initiation period

MrTCakes · 02/11/2016 19:28

I still use 'sup as a greeting. This solves the mystery of people turning up at my house late at night expecting a hot drink and light snacks.

petitpois55 · 02/11/2016 19:33

Witch Lighten up. I have no idea what Mumsnet was like in t'olden days, but really who cares. As far as I know it's not an exclusive club and anybody can post!
Anybody who uses the word sups is going to have the piss ripped out of them.,and of course they knew that, which is why they started the thread, for a bit of ruck..Wink
Even if they are a troll, it's a bloody amusing thread.
It's been particularly hilarious to see, - the thankfully minority of posters hand wringing at the sleight done to the poor OP. Grin

stopfuckingshoutingatme · 02/11/2016 19:48

By why ? There are some terms that are markedly class related - for
Me kitchen sups is what I read that David Cameron and his notting hill buddies had . So an upper middle
Class term .

Genuinely why do terms that are only used by a certain group means it's 100% ok to ridicule you ? I can't fathom why this is OK .

the old mumsnet was NOT supportive.

The old mumsnet included people who thought it appropriate to report posters to social services based on something said on a thread.

But please dont let that ruin your view of how wonderfully supportive it is.

GeorgeTheThird · 02/11/2016 20:04

Desertmum - how do you know you are posher than them?

Oh give over. There may be some corner of Mumsnet that's supportive but most of it, as this thread illustrates, is an embarassing nest of vipers.

GinIsIn · 02/11/2016 20:17

Restless just out of curiosity, if "most of Mumsnet is an embarrassing nest of vipers", why are you here?

RestlessTraveller · 02/11/2016 20:20

I'm here because I've been here for years, and as I said there are some corners which are very supportive and I've had some great advice. However I would never tell anyone in real life I come on here because I'm too embarrassed.

ArmySal · 02/11/2016 20:23

Too embarrassed because you perceive other posters as a nest of vipers? If so it does beg the question why you're here.

RestlessTraveller · 02/11/2016 20:23

I just answered that above!

RestlessTraveller · 02/11/2016 20:24

I've had some great advice in The Doghouse' and health forums.

Wanderingraspberry · 02/11/2016 20:32

Sorry, can't.Get. past. Sups.

zizza · 02/11/2016 20:35

I'm quite new here really despite having children who are now 20+ - not sure how it passed me by before! But I've had great conversations with people on the higher education threads.

Anyway, seriousness over.... "Sups" made me laugh - sounds so daft. I have trouble with abbreviations that are aren't much shorter than the proper word!

"If it was that awful...... "

It (the OP's retort) wasn't tho. Perfectly in keeping with the spirit of the comments we all made to her, let's be honest.

helenatroy · 02/11/2016 20:54

So the relentless attack on this poor woman continues.

MadMags · 02/11/2016 21:05

Seriously.

There is a right mountain being made out of this molehill, folks.

I think some of you need a Snickers for your sups.

petitpois55 · 02/11/2016 21:06

So the relentless attack on the poor some continues Sweet suffering Jesus, are you putting me on. Grin The women is probably not even real.
I'm off for Sups.

Can I just say:

Nobody, but nobody uses sups that much in one post unless they're looking for a reaction, darling.
