To think too many people on MN are too quick to call 'fake'

user1471524661 · 29/10/2016 17:27

I was reading and contributing to the post about the new husband whose wife has found his disgusting stag videos. I read contribution after contribution saying 'if this is real', 'troll', etc. And one particularly asshole post which simply said 'reported' like the poster was some sort of stepford wife keeping her community in check. None of us actually know whether it was real because, well, this is the internet. But who gives anyone the right to assume something isn't? Just because you, soneone you know, or in this case, your husband hasn't done (or been caught doing) it, doesn't mean it doesn't happen. I know someone who this almost exact thing happened to her.

So stop the troll hunting! And get a life.

And shame on MN for deleting within 5 mins of report in favour of the reporter.

What was the deletion message? I think they only delete when they know it's dodgy.

It's MN rules not to troll hunt, so i agree with you there.

Sirzy · 29/10/2016 17:30

For MN to delete a thread for "troll" reasons they normally have pretty good reason to believe it isn't true.

Well, it was a troll so I think you've lost your argument a bit there.....

MrsTerryPratchett · 29/10/2016 17:31

They checked. I'm willing to bet a million pounds that it was a PBP for it to happen that quick. And MNHQ were VERY sure given that deletion message.

WhisperingLoudly · 29/10/2016 17:31

Some are so obviously trolls there is nothing else to say. Seems MN were pretty certain too Grin

Well going off the deletion message from MNHQ it was definitely a troll.

lifeissweet · 29/10/2016 17:32

I reported.
It was pretty obviously bollocks, to be fair.

But I agree - I didn't call troll on the thread, just sent an 'ahem...' message to MN.

noblegiraffe · 29/10/2016 17:32

Loads of shit gets posted on here that isn't true, you'll get better at spotting it once you're here a while.

Change your name to something i can recognise you by and i'all engage with your thread.

bloodymaria · 29/10/2016 17:35

But it was a troll!

user1471524661 · 29/10/2016 17:35

No, not my post. But I just really felt for her as my friend went through pretty much exactly what was described, but found put over 10 years later when her husband's friend let slip and he had to admit. She stayed because so much time had passed. But she went through hell for months because of it.

So, how does MN know it was definitely a troll? First time posters / weird usernames is not a definitive answer. I am genuinely interested in knowing.

You do seem to be over invested yourself actually...

PigletWasPoohsFriend · 29/10/2016 17:36

As this is a TAAT, which is also against MNHQ rules, this will probably go to....

Misstress, I would if I knew how. And yes, I am new to MN.

Guavaf1sh · 29/10/2016 17:37

Sirzy- troll posted a ludicrously far fetched story of sexual shenanigans on a stag do then the thread got deleted so she set a new one up which is this one

AVirginLitTheCandle · 29/10/2016 17:38

So, how does MN know it was definitely a troll?

If it was a PBP who has already been banned about 50 times for posting over the top outlandish stories then that's a pretty good indicator that the thread was BS.

GiddyOnZackHunt · 29/10/2016 17:38

Yes. Why don't MNHQ publish a How we spot a troll guide? That couldn't possibly help a troll to avoid being spotted...
