To think too many people on MN are too quick to call 'fake'

I was reading and contributing to the post about the new husband whose wife has found his disgusting stag videos. I read contribution after contribution saying 'if this is real', 'troll', etc. And one particularly asshole post which simply said 'reported' like the poster was some sort of stepford wife keeping her community in check. None of us actually know whether it was real because, well, this is the internet. But who gives anyone the right to assume something isn't? Just because you, soneone you know, or in this case, your husband hasn't done (or been caught doing) it, doesn't mean it doesn't happen. I know someone who this almost exact thing happened to her.

So stop the troll hunting! And get a life.

And shame on MN for deleting within 5 mins of report in favour of the reporter.

I do think it's a bit mean not to let people choose a nn when they sign up then be picky about choosing one that 'reflects a bit more of their personality'

Well in the OP's defense there have been a couple of genuine posters over the years who were incorrectly labelled trolls by MNHQ and subsequently banned and threads/posts zapped.

It happened to me once although I did get in touch with MNHQ who quickly reinstated my account. Although they didn't reinstated my thread that was deleted which was probably a good thing going from some of the responses I had on it.

However I'd imagine it's pretty rare tbh. I would say that 99% of posters identified as trolls by MNHQ are indeed trolls*

*Disclaimer - jmo of course. I haven't conducted any studies into the matter to come to that conclusion

That is why so many posts that are clearly trolls stay because the evidence they feel they need is missing.

It's a bit like a criminal trial at times, isn't it?

Unless we can prove beyond reasonable doubt that you're a troll then you get to stay. You're effectively not guilty of trolling unless we can prove you are

I think most of the time intuition is spot on, but I do remember that time when someone posted about a premature baby who passed away, they were banned for trolling but then they were on TV and it turned out that they were falsely accused of trolling? that sticks in my mind although now I'm wondering if I dreamed it?
