MIL does. I don't.

Please discuss.

My mum does, I cba. And we get lots of PA sighing and ostentatious plate-side tapping of our plates "just checking they're not going to burn my hand" when she eats at ours.

Grrrr.

Yes, I do.

But it's not exactly tricky to pop them in the oven for a minute at the end of cooking time is it? Out comes pasta bake or whatever, piping hot, oven off, plates in for 30 seconds.

I have a dilemma when salad and hot food is involved!

I probably need to get out more Smile

Laska5772 · 23/10/2016 18:32

no need to buy the Lakeland discs , just sprinkle a few drops of water inbetween your plates and put inthe microwave for 30 secs, take them out with a tea towel and wipe any excess away .. (weve been doing this for years never had any problem, )

CBA'd

Hmm
Trifleorbust · 23/10/2016 18:33

DH does this and yes, sometimes the food goes cold while he warms the plates!

Definately a generational thing. My MIL has a hostess trolley and you need asbestos gloves to touch both the food and the plates.

Maybe something to do with cold houses in olden days

AutumnSunday · 23/10/2016 18:38

Navy, of course you're right but it's something which he doesn't do if I collect a takeaway.

PlumsGalore · 23/10/2016 18:39

We only warm plates if getting a takeaway, it's never as warm as anything I cook and serve straight away.

I only do it when we are having a proper bigger meal with guests, not just for every day meals. For every day meals I serve straight on to plates and we eat immediately. So no need.

RiverTam · 23/10/2016 18:40

I think it's a good idea and with certain foods it certainly makes a difference but I usually forget.

My mum always does, in fact she has a warming oven. It's one if the things I love about being at my mum's, like always having a tablecloth and tea from teacups and saucers not a mug. Feels homely.

emotionsecho · 23/10/2016 18:42

Hot food - hot plates and serving dishes (if using them).

Hot food put into or onto cold receptacles - absolute no.

PoppyBirdOnAWire · 23/10/2016 18:43

Putting hot food on cold plates defies logic. The mother in law is right. She is correct. She is not stupid and illogical.

Ilovenannyplum · 23/10/2016 18:44

I don't. I can't be bothered.

Roussette · 23/10/2016 18:49

I loathe eating from cold plates. REally hate it. What's the problem if the oven is on anyway to shove them in for 2 minutes. Even if I have soup lunchtime, I heat my bowl Grin

TheCatsMother99 · 23/10/2016 18:53

I don't heat them up other than on the odd occasion for a roast dinner. Don't know why only for roasts though Hmm

PoppyBirdOnAWire · 23/10/2016 18:54

Two minutes is all it takes. The plates will not be burning hot to the touch. Please rest assured.Hmm

TondelayaDellaVentamiglia · 23/10/2016 18:55

depends what we are having, but on the whole I am a plate warmer.

like today....pesto salmon and mash...mash cools really fast so into a warm plate

roast dinner where everyone is serving themselves....again hot plates because some people have manners and take a while to serve themselves. sunday roast is carnage here normally, do not accept the invite if you are bloody shy

casserole/stew/pasta affair.... normally the temperature of lava so plates right out the cupboard!

Boobyroof · 23/10/2016 18:56

I have never warmed a plate. I don't get cold food but perhaps I'm eating too fast! BlushMy mil in law also warms the plates!
