www.express.co.uk/news/royal/724136/prince-andrew-requests-princesses-beatrice-eugenie-kensington-prince-charles-queen-william

This is a Sunday Express link, not a Fail one.

So Andrew wants both of his daughters to have full time royal roles funded by the public & have larger apartments at Kensington Palace. Given that the only time I ever see them in the news is for dreadful outfits & holidays, to me they are embarrassing & a bit cringy.

Andrew is complaining that they are overshadowed by William, Catherine & Harry. But if you believe & support a system of privilege by birth such as the monarchy, then it stands to reason that the direct heirs are more important than the rest.

Does Andrew have a point & IABU?!

I understand that no Royal ever has to actually pay for anything - like most celebs they just get given stuff

They can always sell the "stuff" to make a few bob though; anyone else remember Charles using "Fawcett the Fence" to offload official gifts?

He was another one whose presence in the Prince's life was apparently "non-negotiable" ... Hmm

Cavemum Wink Flowers

I don't think having to attend the Trooping of the colour once a year should be a bar to the pair of them getting proper jobs and supporting themselves.

In defence of Diana, I met her a number of times. No entourage, no media, no nothing. Just a genuine person supporting friends in awful situations.

BigGreenOlives · 23/10/2016 21:31

I think they do pay for things themselves but at a discounted rate in the same way that some actresses buy things.

There must be a limit on the free stuff - you probably can't get free staff. So you'd have to marry well or not have lots of the stuff they are used to. Obviously most of us live without all of that, so I'm not terrifically sympathetic. And the lots of expensive holidays could be trimmed back if money was tight. But I'd guess those do come free.

I went to a Buck House garden Party.
It was fascinating.

Huge throng around the Queen and Philip
MASSIVE throng around Kate
Good sized group around Anne

Andrew stood alone introducing himself to people and looking just like this www.imdb.com/title/tt2382598/

He looked like a pompous wazzock

I think the Duchess of Kent taught music as 'Mrs. Kent' - didn't she also convert to Roman Catholic? She had a miscarriage in her 40s, and I think it caused mental health problems. Easy to forget they're human too.

Surprised this Andrew and his blood princesses story is news. I've heard the same thing several times over the years.

blaeberry · 23/10/2016 23:17

They definitely pay for most stuff though it will be managers of some sort that would do the actual paying for the senior Royals. I imagine they will be quite astute business people.

EveOnline2016 · 23/10/2016 23:25

Sums it up

The Duke of York wants his daughters to be full time Royals?

They are like the two ugly sisters from Cinderella.
They really don't do themselves any favours with those outfits and hats they wear.

QueenLizIII · 23/10/2016 23:34

I never understood how two such privileged women with fashion advisers and whatnot could get it so wrong.

avamiah · 23/10/2016 23:40

QueenL,
That's the million pound question.
It doesn't make any sense.
Surely they look in the mirror.
For me it's the hats they wear .
Some hat designer is making those hats for them and not one of them suits them.
It's a Mystery.haha

If the queen had a charitable bone in her body she'd release some of those properties in London that she owns worth over £800 million that are standing empty, to the homeless. That is true charity. There she is in her 240 bedroom house, while thousands of her subjects sleep rough (through no fault of their own) across London.

Something I've always wondered when people bleat about them being kind and generous.

No.

No one with that sheer amount of wealth and power can be classed as that if they don't actually do anything that helps can they!

Oh I know they have fancy dinners and pop up occasionally to cut a ribbon or simper at a such person in a bed for a photo shoot...

But just think of the good you could do with all that money, all that empty property. More than you and generations after you will ever need even if you all lived luxurious lifestyles.

They are a photo op. Nothing more.

Look at Eugenie's dress in that picture. She has a full bust and it doesnt flatter it at all and it doesnt flatter her figure. She looks like she walked out of a burlesque house and it is much too old for her.

EveOnline2016 · 23/10/2016 23:44

i bet the queen is the MIL from hell.

I bet will and Kate even had to get permission for thier children names.

Why would anyone want that life.

BillSykesDog · 23/10/2016 23:48

This has been going on for ages. The Royals have had a 'Way Ahead' group since 1992 which is made up of senior royals and advisors who are deciding the path for the future of the monarchy. One of the first decisions it made was that the Royals should pay income tax. It's been praised by the business community as an example of good practice for a focus group and driving marketing practice.

One of the things it's focused on largely driven by Prince Charles is streamlining the royal family. King George V died in 1936, but the Royal family is still dealing with problems stemming from the treatment of his sons today. Both sons younger than George VI who married and had children had those children treated as proper royals. Which means we still today, 80 years after his death have hangers on like the Kents and the Gloucesters who are largely irrelevant but still hanging on the coat tails.

If Beatrice and Eugenie were given roles they'd still be on the ponce in 60 years time when William's great grandchildren were knocking around and even Harry's children and great grandchildren would be irrelevances, let alone those two.

QueenLizIII · 23/10/2016 23:50

Why would anyone want that life.

Come now. Where would Kate have been without it?

A nobody. She loves it.

BillSykesDog · 23/10/2016 23:50

i bet the queen is the MIL from hell.

Apparently she's lovely. Prince Philip on the other hand is not. Wrote lots of nasty letters to Diana and is the reason why Fergie is still not allowed anywhere near family events even though her and Andrew haven't really split up.

Willow33 · 23/10/2016 23:52

Happen to know that Princess Eugenie does a lot for charity and it does make a difference to have a Royal involved.

BillSykesDog · 23/10/2016 23:52

Eve, given how similar those outfits were to the ugly sisters, I often wonder if a stylist they'd treated like shit did that deliberately...

QueenLizIII · 23/10/2016 23:53

BillSykesDog interesting concept Grin

But then again they still have eyes. They must have known how bad they looked.

avamiah · 23/10/2016 23:55

QueenL,
never mind the dress,
Everybody was looking at the hat.haha

BillSykesDog · 23/10/2016 23:56

Happen to know that Princess Eugenie does a lot for charity and it does make a difference to have a Royal involved.

How? Surely that's because it gains exposure? And because Eugenie's charity involvement is almost completely unknown I can't see how that could be the case. Even if it's just targeting a few high profile donors, I really can't see any Russian oligarchs or Saudi princes or US tycoons being impressed enough to part with their money by two rather dull and dowdy minor Royals.

QueenLizIII · 23/10/2016 23:57

Yah both hats were diaboloical
