The Duke of York wants his daughters to be full time Royals?

www.express.co.uk/news/royal/724136/prince-andrew-requests-princesses-beatrice-eugenie-kensington-prince-charles-queen-william

This is a Sunday Express link, not a Fail one.

So Andrew wants both of his daughters to have full time royal roles funded by the public & have larger apartments at Kensington Palace. Given that the only time I ever see them in the news is for dreadful outfits & holidays, to me they are embarrassing & a bit cringy.

Andrew is complaining that they are overshadowed by William, Catherine & Harry. But if you believe & support a system of privilege by birth such as the monarchy, then it stands to reason that the direct heirs are more important than the rest.

Does Andrew have a point & IABU?!

Whatever LikeDylann, it's not terribly interesting to me how much you love the woman who was the queen mum.

As I've said up thread, I have no great love for the royal family nor the Queen Mother. I am a republican, as you'd have worked out from my previous posts rather than chucking childish invective around.

I do have an interest in the institution and how people react to it. I also have a low tolerance for bullshit and half-baked conspiracy theories.

Has anyone heard anything about the Monaco lot? Albert and Charlene..
Are they still together?
Didn't she try to bolt on the eve of the Nuptuals?

If anyone cares to tell me what a fireman Sam, tissues under the door complex is I'd be grateful, it sounds intriguing!!

Someone upthread suggested William had a "rescuing complex" which will be where the fireman Sam reference is from. In Diana's book she mentions crying n the bathroom and little William passing tissues to her under the door. (That's the point where I would have decided I was upsetting and involving my child too much in my dramas, wiped my eyes and pretended I was OK but hey.)

I don't think a rescuing complex is too bad a thing to have for a monarch tbh.

I strongly suspect that the "daughter of the cook" stories are snobbery. The QM was not tall and slender as was the fashion at the time (and still is) but short and rather dumpy.

I'd guess some never-can-be-too-rich-or-too-thin society bitch (not necessarily Wallis to start with, just someone like her) sneered that with her looks she was probably the daughter of the cook. Cook=fat=working class. The rest thought that was a scream and carried on alluding to it.

(I remember reading that Sophie Rhys-Jones as she was before marriage, spoke of herself as a "Welsh Pit Pony" in terms of not being able to compete with Diana's tall slender glamour.)

Thank you BallonSlayer

Any idea who or what the big game are? Know what white man's burden is.

Julia2016 · 04/11/2016 09:31

Diana was so wrong to include her children in her distress to the extent she did. What it must have done to William to be drying her tears as a child.

I get that it's hard to hid our kids from everything but somethings are unfair to burden them with and they leave a lasting mark.

They are, and have had twins since but she always looks a bit miserable. I can't imagine Albert is much fun to be married to. I quite fancy his nephew though!

Exactly.

Most royals seem pretty miserable. The Swedish lot looks surprisingly happy, tbh.

It's all those meatballs and flat pack furniture Grin

ChazsBrilliantAttitude · 04/11/2016 10:06

White Man's Burden is a poem by Kipling which appears to support the idea of imperialism suggesting that it is the duty of white men to sacrifice themselves "civilising ungrateful savages."

I find that if they're neutered, the males are much calmer. A good vet should be able to advise you about eating the furniture.

QueenoftheAndals · 04/11/2016 10:07

Spunky I think I'd look happy too if I was married to Carl Philip of Sweden! Oops, how did this get here??

vanilla

Maybe :D
A school friend of mine had a Swedish mummy who made awesome meatballs and mulled Christmas wine called glögg (I still use the recipe she gave me. Smile)

Maybe they simply get fed and watered appropriately.

VanillaSugarCandyCanes · 04/11/2016 10:08

Oh Christ, wrong threadBlush

SpunkyMummy · 04/11/2016 10:14

vanill

Well, I do hope you don't want to neuter Carl of Sweden. He's hot!! andals is sooo right.

But I do think the Swedish ones look happier. I couldn't find a happy looking one of Kate and William that's reasonably recent...

Type William and Kate Canada Tour into google image search and there's a vast amount of photos where they look happy, relaxed and very engaged with each other.

VanillaSugarCandyCanes · 04/11/2016 13:28

That's cos they're on show. Google Kate at Sandringham Easter 2016 and Frosty the Snowman has come out to play.

Julia2016 · 04/11/2016 14:01

Enrique everything is PR, that's how they have lasted.
