The Duke of York wants his daughters to be full time Royals?

www.express.co.uk/news/royal/724136/prince-andrew-requests-princesses-beatrice-eugenie-kensington-prince-charles-queen-william

This is a Sunday Express link, not a Fail one.

So Andrew wants both of his daughters to have full time royal roles funded by the public & have larger apartments at Kensington Palace. Given that the only time I ever see them in the news is for dreadful outfits & holidays, to me they are embarrassing & a bit cringy.

Andrew is complaining that they are overshadowed by William, Catherine & Harry. But if you believe & support a system of privilege by birth such as the monarchy, then it stands to reason that the direct heirs are more important than the rest.

Does Andrew have a point & IABU?!

Princess Anne had the right idea not accepting a title for her kids and expecting them to find their own careers. The two princesses are irrelevant, we have enough royals out there opening hospitals and visiting schools. We don't need two more.

All Andrew has ever done is embarrass our country with scandal after scandal. He should have been made to get a job too, maybe he wouldn't have such a big chip on his shoulder.

I don't mind the others, much better than president Blair, god forbid.

QuackDuckQuack · 23/10/2016 15:14

Whilst I have no time for the monarchy in general, I wonder how easy it is to get a real job when you are meant to turn up at royal events regularly. I'd struggle to fit all of the random shit they seem to attend into my 25 days annual leave. But I don't know how compulsory it all is. The many luxury holidays would have to go, which obviously aren't compulsory.

Gottagetmoving · 23/10/2016 15:14

No one should have a job handed to them based on who their parents are....not even William.
It's stupid.

JoJoSM2 · 23/10/2016 15:15

Why not.. I think the Royal family fulfill a fantastic PR role for this country and actually cost very little in the greater scheme of things.

Roussette · 23/10/2016 15:16

I cannot abide Andrew and as for Fergie, well let's not even go there. She works bloody hard at keeping them in the public eye, I'll say that for her... and him.

I'm sure the daughters are all very nice but they have never really worked hard and just seem to roll up at important functions with stupid hats on. They obviously get their dress sense from their mother who has the most godawful taste in clothes, or used to anyway.

Andrew should just STFU and think himself lucky he can ponce about the place doing not a lot. Of course his DDs will be sidelined. They are not the children of the future king!

Very easy I'd imagine. Especially for status type companies that would benefit from the prestige. They would be on much better terms and conditions than mere mortals too.

EverySongbirdSays · 23/10/2016 15:17

The thing is, girls of their inherited wealth/trust fund don't actually need jobs the way the rest of u do as they don't need to worry about needs/want or even have it to pursue for some kind of status as they are already at the top of the tree.

50 years ago, this didn't matter, young wealthy girls of good breeding just married and that was an end to it.

But today they just look lazy.

The fact is they don't have anything to acquire or achieve. They would have been better off going into sport like Zara.

The Express/The Mail have been rattling the Prince Andrew wants Bea to have a role cage for years. Naught comes of it. It won't happen. Charles is the heir and he wanted it streamlined - it's part of the reason Louise is a Lady not a Princess.

QueenLizIII · 23/10/2016 15:18

Silly sod. He can pay their way i hope. Im done paying for palace refurbs when i cant afford a home.

That's a good argument for the core royals but would B & E really add anything to the PR machine other than cost?

EverySongbirdSays · 23/10/2016 15:18

us not u

Roussette · 23/10/2016 15:20

Zara Tindall is absolutely lovely, my nephew has spent some time with her. Anne had it right with the no royal title for her kids but Andrew & Fergie at the time were such snobs they would never have dreampt of that.

This is interesting

He is probably tired of funding them so passing the buck he has always seemed an entitled twat really

elfonshelf · 23/10/2016 15:20

I'm about as pro-monarchy as you can get, but I totally disagree with Prince Andrew's ideas.

In the modern world, I think it's unreasonable to expect the country to support anyone outside the direct line.

FWIW, Eugenie has done quite a lot of work for scoliosis in children (she had a lot of surgery as a child for this), otherwise I only know that they have terrible taste in hats.

Perhaps Princess Anne should have a word with her brother.

hopetobehappy · 23/10/2016 15:22

Nah rather have a president. Why would it have to be Blair though, just someone who we elected in a democratic fashion. Ireland's presidency gets by fine, mush cheaper than the royals too. And no, I don't think the royals bring in the tourists.
I think we'd get more if they were gone, as in France. Get rid of the free loaders. They're an embarrassment.

DiegeticMuch · 23/10/2016 15:23

Like the majority of the public, I'm not a republican. However, I don't think that taxpayers should fund these two people. I don't think they'd represent value for money, unlike the Queen, William and Harry.

MidnightVelvetthe7th · 23/10/2016 15:25

I agree Fluffy and I echo the earlier poster who said that they are not popular enough for such roles, they are not well liked enough. If they do go into public cutting of ribbons etc then they will always be the second choice/consolation prize royals.

I quite like the Royal family but this is ridiculous. Andrew's lucky he hasn't been arrested for various things. As for Fergie Shock Eugenie and Beatrice seem OK. The question is why they themselves would want to be 'full time Royals'.

PigletWasPoohsFriend · 23/10/2016 15:29

Andrew is an entitled git though. DH has met most of the senior Royals due to a former job and neither he or his colleagues had a nice word to say about Andrew. The others were all absolutely fine and easy to deal with.

I have a family member that has done so to and says the same.

BowieFan · 23/10/2016 15:30

Oh good, more spongers living off my taxes. I really wish we could just get rid of the Royals, it's just wrong for a family to be given so much wealth and power just because of their surname.

Firsttimer82 · 23/10/2016 15:30

I think it would be great. My Grandad met the DoKent when he came to open his nursing home. They had a chat and my Grandad was over the moon. I'd pay £50 a year for the royal family just on that memory. If they spread a bit of cheer why not!

diddl · 23/10/2016 15:32

I think that it's just too late now.

Does HM have any of her nephews/nieces representing her?

It perhaps won't seem that long before attention is on George & Charlotte & moving a little away from Harry even.

Also, what's all this "blood Princess" business?

Is nor Edward's daughter of equal "rank"?

Ie the daughter of a Prince??

BowieFan · 23/10/2016 15:34

The only Royal I've ever really liked is Princess Di. She was truly brilliant and gave so much of her time to causes the rest of the royal family weren't interested in.

Harry and Wills are alright as well, I think they've been continuing Diana's legacy. You only have to look at Harry's creation of the Invictus Games to see that.

The rest of them can bugger off though. As for the tourism argument - plenty of people visit the Palace of Versailles and France has no royal family! If anything, tourism would actually be higher if people were allowed to go round Balmoral and Sandringham.

Twogoats · 23/10/2016 15:36

I'm surprised nobody's mentioned which side Prince Andrew bats on...
