To be annoyed that so many English folk don't watch Still Game

Considering how many apparently watch the absolute shit that is Mrs Brown's Boys.

9.30 tonight by the way. It's magnificent and the new series shows it hasn't lost anything with age either!

I've never heard of it. I'm might give it a go on catch up tomorrow.

Never heard of it. What's it about. I agree Mrs. Brian's Boys is absolute shit though. Does this mean I will automatically like your suggestion?

e1y1 · 21/10/2016 20:32

Sorry, I am one of those English Folk. Never even heard of it.

What channel is it on - will it be shown in England? (Looks to be Scottish from a quick Google)

Cheerybigbottom · 21/10/2016 20:32

Yes!!! I'm a Scot living in England and I have made it my mission to bring all my English friends round to watching Still Game. Lord of the comedies.

I met another displaced Scot today, 33 years living in England and she'd never heard of Still Game. Sad

It knocks the pants off Mrs Browns Boys.

YouTheCat · 21/10/2016 20:32

I have watched it. Old series were better though.

StarsandSparkles · 21/10/2016 20:34

Im scottish and i love still game its absolutely brilliant. Its funny yet has poignant moments in it which balance it well. I was at still game live 2yrs ago and i laughed all night, got tickets for 2nd time round and taking my dad and wee sister we all cant wait

cardibach · 21/10/2016 20:34

Actually I'm worried by the comparisons to MBB, even favourable Ines. It's beginning to suggest to me that they are from the same school of shite. Is this the case?

user1471517900 · 21/10/2016 20:34

Bbc1. England, Scotland, Wales, Northern Ireland. All showing it. Crude humour but it's brilliant!

Cheerybigbottom · 21/10/2016 20:34

Agree YouTheCat. Enjoying it so far, had tears at jack & victor smashing up tams kitchen last week, but certainly not as many laughs as previous episodes.

Still a different league from Mrs Browns boys.

Milzilla · 21/10/2016 20:35

We're mackems and we bloody love it 😄😄😄

Loving the new series so far.

Nothing has beat the bed pan episode yet 😂

user1471517900 · 21/10/2016 20:35

Nothing like MBB. The only comparison is the "not English comedy"

hidingwithwine · 21/10/2016 20:36

I'm Scottish. I hate Still Game. Also hate Only An Excuse and various other "must watch" Scottish shows.

bring back Scotch and Wry

cardibach · 21/10/2016 20:36

Aaah. Crude humour. I like a rude k
Joke as much as the next person, and am pretty crude myself some of the time, but tend to find humour marketed as 'crude' is, in fact, total and utter bollocks which doesn't even raise a smile. You aren't selling it, OP.

cardibach · 21/10/2016 20:36

Well I'm not English, so that might work. Need more info really.

Cheerybigbottom · 21/10/2016 20:37

Cardibach comparisons drawn because it's a 'regional' production I suppose. Mrs Browns boys has had great success moving from Irish to general audience but it's definitely no still game.
English husband favours the big tam & madoorie episode in our house. I love the one with winston moving to finnport.

cardibach · 21/10/2016 20:38

Sorry to sound obsessive about not liking it without seeing it, but if someone smashing something up was a big laugh, I don't think it'll be my sort of thing.

user1471517900 · 21/10/2016 20:39

As an aside Only an Excuse is now awful, so no argument there. Still Game is magnificent though! One of my in laws gets called "Isa" all the time Grin

scaryclown · 21/10/2016 20:40

bliddy right. Scoatish Comedy is much be'er likes

MistresssIggi · 21/10/2016 20:42

I enjoy it but had to be kind of led into it by Scottish dh.

2gorgeousboys · 21/10/2016 20:42

DH and I (both English) have watched a few episodes. There's a few funny moments but I wouldn't make a point of watching it and didn't think it was that funny. The episode with the homeless person and the new owner of the pub a few weeks ago was just strange. We don't like Mrs Brown's boys though either.

GipsyDanger · 21/10/2016 20:43

I love still game. The whole lot is on Netflix if anyone is interested. The episode when they are the dj's for the hospital radio, the old man who was dying and wanted to hear this song that reminded him of his true love. They finally find it and play it just as he passes away. Cue tears from me...... turned out his wife was less than pleased as it was his and his OW's song Grin
Cue tears from me again (but laughter)

legotits · 21/10/2016 20:45

This has reminded me about Gary tank commander. BBC comedy.

That was only shown scotside too I think.

Purplefrogshoes · 21/10/2016 20:45

I love still game Grin Naveed is my favourite

MidnightAura · 21/10/2016 20:46

Why does it bother you?

I'm Scottish and I loathe still game with a passion. I cringe every time it's on. My DH loves it. To this day I'm still shocked my prim and proper MIL who doesn't swear and hates anything remotely vulgar loves Still Game.
