To be annoyed that so many English folk don't watch Still Game

Considering how many apparently watch the absolute shit that is Mrs Brown's Boys.

9.30 tonight by the way. It's magnificent and the new series shows it hasn't lost anything with age either!

OP posts:
ThereIsNoFelange · 21/10/2016 23:53

Love love love Still Game, but tonight's was shite 😕

mintthins · 21/10/2016 23:54

We're just delighted it is finally on BBC1 in England. We only saw it when visiting relatives before. I particularly love Naveed.

Absolutely do not get Gary Tank Commander though.

Salmotrutta · 21/10/2016 23:55

It only appeals to Glaswegians/West Coast types.

It bears little resemblance to life in any other region.

I find it cringeworthy.

(I don't live in the "Central Belt" - thank fuck goodness)

SirChenjin · 22/10/2016 00:00

I live in Edinburgh (which is East Central Belt Wink) - and it apeals to me. I'm also from Englishshire originally - and despite that flaw I still find it funny, as well as ridiculous, poignant, a bit rude and clever.

MrHannahSnell · 22/10/2016 00:04

Gary Tank Commander was OK (& shown in England) but Bluestone 42 was better. Agree that Mrs Brown's Boys is white.

MrHannahSnell · 22/10/2016 00:05

shite fucking auto correct

SusanneLinder · 22/10/2016 00:08

I think its fabulous, but I understand why people wouldn't "get it".

BackforGood · 22/10/2016 00:19

I watched it on the off chance last week - thought it was very poor.
That said, I think Mrs Brown's Boys is far worse - never watch that rubbish.

TaintedAngel · 22/10/2016 00:20

I adore still game. But I am from the west of Scotland so can relate to it all. I lived in England for over 10 years and if our friends didn't understand out humour as much they wouldn't have 'got' it. But they love it now and continue to watch it long after we returned to Scotland.

And I'm clearly in the minority because I love MBB but am not arsed for Gary tank commander at all.

liz70 · 22/10/2016 00:22

Not arsed about it here either (English but 20 years resident in Scotland). Mind, I wasn't fussed over Rab C. either - I far preferred Absolutely and mr. don and mr. george myself.

ZuleikaDobson · 22/10/2016 00:26

Why be annoyed? How does it affect you that I don't watch it? By the way, I don't watch MBB either, I loathe it with a passion.

I love it but its very Scottish so I'd be surprised, though pleased, if the rest of the UK loved it. Same with Gary Tank Commander.

Linnet · 22/10/2016 00:47

We are all Scottish in our family. In our house we watch Still game and Mrs Brown's boys. We find them both very funny.

LikeDylanInTheMovies · 22/10/2016 01:08

Gary Tank Commander was OK

I beg to differ. It was mince.

It had one 'joke' he was in the army, but he was quite camp. The characters were so broadly drawn they were little more than caricatures.

Still Game it's okay, but a bit parochial in its reference points, and the humour quite broad and knockabout. They were my least favourite characters on Chewin the Fat, which was hit and miss but had its moments, 'a bottle of ginger and a swatch of yer fannny' , Miss Gourlay the chemistry teacher and The Big Man.

Still Game is certainly better than Mrs Brown's Boys, but don't think it travels well. Rab C. Nesbitt had a grit and a darkness to it, which Still Game doesn't.

The real crime is that Limmy's Show, to my mind the best sketch show of the decade made anywhere hasn't been shown in England or has been put on in a late night ghetto.

Bejazzled · 22/10/2016 01:13

It was good when it first came out, but now it's meh. Flogging a dead horse. And I also am Scottish.

SoupDragon · 22/10/2016 09:18

I've got no idea if the Welsh watch it at all. I live in England so can only discuss the English people I've met

So, I fact, your question is "...so many people don't watch..." and has fuck all to do with perceived nationality?

That's easy to answer, and it's a shocker of an answer I admit : people have different tastes! Mind blown...

I don't watch it because it's a pile of shit. Like Mrs Browns Boys.

Bantanddec · 22/10/2016 09:24

I'm English I love it and I hate Mrs Brown's Boys.

gunsandbanjos · 22/10/2016 09:47

I'm Scottish and love still game! So funny.

My South African boyfriend loves it too, do need to translate a word or two though.

Fluffyears · 22/10/2016 10:02

It's not as good now but still funny, Naveeds wife meena is hilarious. I didn't get Limmy st first but now like it as I get the humour. Cannot stand Mrs Browns Boys it's utter shite. People were saying how great it was so I watched it and thought 'I must have the wrong programme.....' no it is just shite!

Benny Harvey RIP Grin

JemimaMuddledUp · 22/10/2016 14:37

I've never heard of it. But then I'm Welsh not English. I hate Mrs Brown's Boys. I did however watch an interesting programme about sea fishing on BBC Alba a few weeks ago (with subtitles).

VeryBitchyRestingFace · 22/10/2016 14:53

My maw and I have tuned into this series both as first time viewers.

She has watched all episodes so far and I have watched 2.

It's fucking SHITE. Pish. Bawbags.

If this series is representative, I really can't comprende-moi the fuss. Confused
