This is so ridiculous, many of them look around 25.

Saw it on the BBC not the fail.

Half watching i thought good, said to DH good that they're taking unaccompanied children out of there. Then i looked up and saw the film and thought ... Confused ... these are the children?

lionheart · 17/10/2016 19:40

I think Norway and Sweden both had issues with false age claims and Norway resolved this by introducing dental and bone x.rays.

almondpudding · 17/10/2016 19:42

Jingle bells, the women, girls, elderly and disabled are disproportionately still in the camps Bordering Syria, and vulnerable to trafficking and abuse.

Disproportionately, the people who have entered Europe, many not refugees, are young males.

We should have a policy of taking in more females than males to balance out the policies of places like Germany and Sweden which have effectively prioritised young, able bodied males over everyone else.

QueenLizIII · 17/10/2016 19:43

Thing is if it is ascertained they are not children via bone mineral and dental tests i doubt they will be sent back.

So they have still taken places that real.children could have had

londonrach · 17/10/2016 19:43

Agree

frenchielala · 17/10/2016 19:44

This has been going on for a long time. At my primary school in north London in the 90s we had a refugee join in about year 3, who was obviously much bigger and older than everyone else - he had a moustache! He ended up getting kicked out as he punched one of the girls in our class and it then transpired he was 19. Horrible thing to happen to the girl.. I agree with what others are saying - Where are the girls?

bbcessex · 17/10/2016 19:44

You are being very unreasonable and judgemental. . Do you really think those are the only kids to have been allowed in, or just a slanted story the Daily fail would like you to perpetuate? 😞😞😞

My DS and many of his peers were 6ft plus aged 16 with facial hair and adult physiques. Well done you for begrudging youngsters the right to safety.

KC225 · 17/10/2016 19:44

My DH works with unaccompanied minors (age 14 to 17) here in Sweden and he said around half the boys are over age. One guy they have at the moment has a receeding greying hair and they reckon is mid thirties. And yes, the thought of my ten years old moving to secondary school next year (run out of space in the primary so they will move a year early) is a concern.

Twogoats · 17/10/2016 19:45

One of them has crow's feet! I get that teenagers can look older, but these are clearly adults! Confused

user1470140070 · 17/10/2016 19:45

"Young people claiming asylum have dental assessments to determine their age. It's accurate within a few montha"

This is absolute nonsense. You cannot tell someone's age to within a few months by looking at their teeth!

Twogoats · 17/10/2016 19:46

Saying that, I don't agree with the media publishing these photos. If we are accepting them as children, then their faces should be blurred.

justgivemeamo · 17/10/2016 19:46

Looking again at the pics, the one in the green hoody doesn't seem like a vulnerable child to me.

Whilst I do appreciate the awful situation in places like Etria and Afghanistan, its the people of Syria who are being hit with barrel bombs, with chemicals, with aid supplies being bombed, I am afraid right now at this precise moment in time, its those people I would like to assist right now - and the truly vulnerable women and children.

Waffles80 · 17/10/2016 19:46

How do you know you can't User?

Gileswithachainsaw · 17/10/2016 19:48

Why is someone questioning age begrudging someone their right to safety?

These people will be enrolled into schools with your children. Wouldn't you want to know of your child was in a class with adults?

petitpois55 · 17/10/2016 19:48

There is no way these are 14-17. Some of them are much older. I feel distinctly uneasy about the lack of girls. Why on earth are they not being prioritised? They are much more vunlerabe.

Bitofacow · 17/10/2016 19:49

I feel sick reading this thread.

At 18 having been trafficked across Europe, friends and family dead or injured. Home destroyed, country ravaged to be met by "well you don't look 18 to me".

Most of these children do look older to a western eye, they are not. Many suffer from PTSD and are deeply, deeply traumatised.

Perhaps if you had to help a crying boy/man to attempt to contact his probably dead family you wouldn't rush in with your YANBUs.

The women are not there because families think they are safer being bombed than trafficked into prostitution.

ChardonnayKnickertonSmythe · 17/10/2016 19:50

The Independent has given up on calling them children, Their headline now says "Teenagers arrive from Calais".

bbcessex · 17/10/2016 19:50

There's only one picture out of all those shown where the person looks over 18 to me. The rest are easily 17 or even less.

God help my DS if he were ever in that predicament. . You lot would throw him to the wolves. Poor kids.

TheoriginalLEM · 17/10/2016 19:50

here we go again......

almondpudding · 17/10/2016 19:52

It is not because families think women are safer being bombed.

Most refugees are female.

But Europe has prioritised males.

you can sighn up to foster teens at any point the councils are desprate

Headofthehive55 · 17/10/2016 19:52

I don't think we have enough foster caters to offer.

Elllicam · 17/10/2016 19:54

They do look a lot older than they are supposed to be. There are a couple of men there who look as if they are in their late twenties. Sadly they are probably taking spaces from genuine children.

bbcessex · 17/10/2016 19:54

Thefishwife HmmHmm back to your daily fail witch hunt with you then. ..
