This is so ridiculous, many of them look around 25.

Tbh I don't care if they are 25 (although they clearly are not). The way we have treated the people stuck at Calais will make me feel ashamed for the rest of my life. Where are the rest of them? Why so few?

justgivemeamo · 17/10/2016 19:31

x post hermoine

I've heard there are children under 10 in Calais - why aren't they being prioritised? Or girls, who are inherently more vulnerable? Why do there seem to be disproportionate numbers of young men (with all the attendant issues)?
yes this is what I was thinking! where are they - but perhaps due to their younger age (??) they have been taken in more discreetly

ThroughThickAndThin01 · 17/10/2016 19:31

It can be difficult to tell, but YANBU.

almondpudding · 17/10/2016 19:32

The sexism in how the refugee crisis has been handled is depressing.

I understand these boys have the right to asylum in the UK, but we need to start prioritising female refugees in the camps bordering Syria for access to the UK, or it is just going to be young males put first all the time.

Jinglebellsandv0dka · 17/10/2016 19:33

YANBU

I actually laughed the other day when I seen it on tv even the volunteer that was trying to round them up was disbelieving - but they had 'paper work'

I remember when I used to try and sneak in to night clubs with friends older sister birth certificate Shock (20 odd years ago!)

This has been happening for a very long time actually not just now. Check out swedens fastest child runner Grin

QueenLizIII · 17/10/2016 19:33

Where are the young teenage girls?

These men are taking places that vulnerable children really do need.

raisedbyguineapigs · 17/10/2016 19:33

Yes why is it not women with young children first? If these are adult men posing as children, then there will be schools with 25 year old men in them pretending to be teenagers, around girls as young as 11.

bumsexatthebingo · 17/10/2016 19:33

Possibly some are older but the Daily Mail will be using the most unflattering pics they have that make them look as old as possible. We know what their agenda is. They love a good 'positive' or faux sympathetic story that invites vile comments. See also pictures of female celebrities with cellulite.

viques · 17/10/2016 19:34

If I was from Afghanistan or Syria and had a son who was 19 or 20 I would want to get them as far away from Taliban /Isis recruitment as possible. And if that meant being creative with their age then so be it. And in Afghanistan they have a slightly different attitude towards age than we do in the west. You might have to travel to register a birth, so many people don't bother until they have several births to register, at which point you might not remember the exact date of birth for each child. apparently more people than statistically likely have their birthdate registered as New Year's Day.......

Jinglebellsandv0dka · 17/10/2016 19:34

almond that's actually a really good point, where are all the females?

ChardonnayKnickertonSmythe · 17/10/2016 19:34

Do these young men really need help more than the young women in the camp?

Because children they are not.

Janey50 · 17/10/2016 19:34

Apart from the fact that many of them look well over the age of 18,I also thought 'Why are there no girls?'.Hmm

PinkyOfPie · 17/10/2016 19:35

YANBU. 14-17 my behind!

Thefishewife · 17/10/2016 19:35

The lefties won't be told we shall wait until a foster carer or a sw gets killed by one of these men children like in Sweden

In the uk there are no checks Barr a form done no bone density no dental

When one of these men do somthing then they will learn and even then it's likey not to be covered in the news Germany any one

justgivemeamo · 17/10/2016 19:36

The way we have treated the people stuck at Calais will make me feel ashamed for the rest of my life

Thats how I feel about all the children we have failed to protect in so called care in the UK, since way back. We still cannot protect them now and adoption is at an all time low - we are facing a monumental crisis in care right now in the uk with over 70,000 children needing homes and a good number of them have come from places like Romania and eastern Europe. We have this year alone 4 thousand unaccompanied minors who have arrived from all over the world and of course snuck in on lorries.
When these children are in care we cannot protect them and hence we have the hideous - rotheram, oxford, telford situations.

That is a blemish on us.

PinkyOfPie · 17/10/2016 19:36

Janey I have often picked up on the distinct lack of women and young children, it makes me very uneasy

Lokisglowstickofdestiny · 17/10/2016 19:36

I'm not sure why they don't prioritise younger children and girls - surely they are in more vulnerable. I have to say I think it's very difficult to age these individuals - some look under 18, some over. Don't some countries do tests on bone density to assess age more accurately?

gunting · 17/10/2016 19:36

Clearly there will be girls that are taken in, but the daily mail are going to show as many men as possible so all of their readers start banging dustbin lids on their head

Gileswithachainsaw · 17/10/2016 19:37

The first one in the grey hoody looks young.

The rest...

Those are adults

user1470140070 · 17/10/2016 19:38

YANBU.

TeaBelle · 17/10/2016 19:38

The younger children will probably be staying with parents.

At the moment the young people that come over need to registered themselves with the home office etc so need to have a level of understanding.

Young people claiming asylum have dental assessments to determine their age. It's accurate within a few montha

MrsJayy · 17/10/2016 19:38

This is the fail so probably not the correct pictures and when my Dds were 14/15 some of the boys looked like men but well done op let's demonise children who have been stuck in a refugee camp beaten raped prostituted and involved in gangs because they had nobody to guide and care for them because they have no homes well fucking done the bad men are coming eh

QueenLizIII · 17/10/2016 19:38

You might have to travel to register a birth, so many people don't bother until they have several births to register, at which point you might not remember the exact date of birth for each child.

You're parents here....if you had not registered any of your childrens births, would you actually forget when they were born....ie forget their birthday? Or would you get it wrong when you registered it and be out by at least a decade? Only way you'd end up with a man who looks 25 and is supposed to be 15. Could any parent get it so wrong?

Jinglebellsandv0dka · 17/10/2016 19:39

viques that's all very well but these men will be put in to schools where there are vunerable young girls - add to that a culture clash and it's bad news

Thefishewife · 17/10/2016 19:39

poster justgivemeamo Mon 17-Oct-16 19:31:03

Because somthing proper would have to be done about children under 10 foster carers would have to be found of which we have none

These men will be shovedput into b&bs like most of our teens who are on care given a weekly allowance and keep to them weather they attend school or collage

Tbh if they turned up at my child's school as Somone with two daughters I would be demanding age varfied
