I'm on a Facebook mum's group and people KEEP misspelling "choking" as "chocking". WHY?!?! This spelling mistake doesn't even make sense.

You get a whole post spelled completely correctly and then - "chocking/chocked/chock"

It's giving me the rage.

I always struggle with the correct spelling of unnecessary - thank heavens for spell check. At work, I often type 'cleint' instead of 'client' and spell check doesn't recognise it as an error.

It's not spelling errors that are so comical though, it's when whole words are written phonetically and (presumably) the person responsible has no idea.

Crazycake · 21/10/2016 09:42

Someone on my facebook has a selling page, she puts apsolutely in almost every post Confused

QuackDuckQuack · 21/10/2016 19:01

I've got much better at being able to understand mistakes since DD's year in reception and the target of 'phonically plausible spelling'. It's cute at 4.

CrohnicallyPregnant · 21/10/2016 20:41

Another selling page one- candle harbours!

Emmageddon · 21/10/2016 20:44

Candelabras?

CrohnicallyPregnant · 22/10/2016 05:11

Think that's what it was meant to be- though I would have called it a candlestick personally!

dottybooboo22 · 22/10/2016 07:02

THROUGH, I'm with you on that one. It's just lazy.
Another one that gets on my nerves is when they pronounce the word community as 'keemmunity'. Aaaaargh there's NO 'E' IN COMMUNITY!!!!!Angry

Raines100 · 22/10/2016 07:09

I'm case anyone cares, even 'candelarbras' is also wrong. Candelabra is already plural. The singular is candelabrum.

Tbf 'candle harbours' sounds like the sort of thing the autocorrect on my phone would come up with if I'd hit the wrong button and hadn't noticed!

Lweji · 22/10/2016 08:18

Candelabra and candlesticks are not the same, are they?

JosephineMaynard · 22/10/2016 08:21

I always thought that a candlestick held a single candle, and a candelabra held multiple candles.

Lweji · 22/10/2016 08:22

Ignore me. Although I always associate one with a single candle and a candelabrum with several.

ThumbWitchesAbroad · 22/10/2016 10:27

Lweji - re. the spelling things wrong - I fear, very much fear, that it is a product of advancing age.

Spelling correctly has always been my only inbuilt gift - and in the last couple of years, possibly as a result of being on FB and MN etc. entirely too much, I've noticed that I'm making some of the simple errors (like using the wrong "there", ffs!, or the wrong "to") - this NEVER used to happen to me!! But suddenly they pop up. Mostly I catch them before posting, but not always and then I'm mortified for myself.

Hoping that it doesn't get any worse...

81blondie81 · 22/10/2016 10:34

Loose instead of lose! It winds me up every time!

EBearhug · 22/10/2016 14:44

I can touch type and it's interesting that I sometimes find myself typing the wrong word even when I definitely know the right way - like the boarder/border example. I catch most of them, but I'm sure the odd one must have escaped at some point.

This is a different phenomenon from carrying on typing while talking to someone and typing in random words from the conversation.

CrohnicallyPregnant · 22/10/2016 16:05

lweji and josephine that's what I meant- the items for sale only held 1 candle each, so even if they had spelled candelabra right, they would have been wrong!

RedheadinCamelFlarge · 23/10/2016 12:23

Thank God I've found you lot! My people Grin

I've also seen fopar. It took me a LONG time to work out what was actually meant. But "defiantly" and "mummy's" are the most frequent teeth-itchers for me. FFS, one is a completely different word! And the other is infant or at most junior school level understanding of how to form a plural... Hmm

DaveGrohlsMrs · 23/10/2016 16:34

I know what you mean! The one that enraged me is "I need some advise". No!!!! Either "please advise" or "give me your advice". Grr!

JustAnotherFopar · 23/10/2016 17:49

Thanks everyone for giving me an enormous laugh this afternoon. Found this post absolutely hilarious (and cringe-worthy) in equal measure.
There's often Chester Draws for sale near me Grin

nonamehere · 23/10/2016 18:49

A few weeks ago there was an advertisement at the top of this page for a retirement village in a 'sort after location'. I'm also amused when someone is 'sat on their phone' instead of joining in the conversation - sounds very uncomfortable.

Shockers · 23/10/2016 20:17

My very lovely friend found her 'fortee' today.

I don't love her any less but it did make me Grin.

Kokosjumping · 24/10/2016 08:35

Cracking up at "sort after location"

Grin

My favourite is still camel Farge though.

ThatFriskyFeline · 24/10/2016 20:19

On the menu in our work canteen today:

Quasidilla

It was seemingly a tortilla Hmm

JustAnotherFopar · 24/10/2016 23:38

On another forum today "wahla"

Emmageddon · 25/10/2016 00:08

Quesadilla is a type of tortilla though. Quasidilla is a brave attempt at the correct spelling. Still should have looked it up before putting it on a menu though.

KateLivesInEngland · 25/10/2016 00:21

I was on Rightmove just yesterday and I saw 'sort after location' in a house description.
