I'm on a Facebook mum's group and people KEEP misspelling "choking" as "chocking". WHY?!?! This spelling mistake doesn't even make sense.

You get a whole post spelled completely correctly and then - "chocking/chocked/chock"

It's giving me the rage.

Has in has time goes by?

Has if. How hannoying.

lynzeylou · 18/10/2016 22:25

Loving this thread, I'm teaching an English class this week and was planning to do an activity on commonly misspelled words/phrases on social media. I've got a great list now.

gavver1 · 18/10/2016 22:28

Opps instead of oops

MarklahMarklah · 18/10/2016 22:37

Local FB group.
People want 'tillers' to do up their bathrooms.
People sell chester draws.
Someone no's something about an event.
Chocker-neck dresses for sale.
Someone should of asked for help.
Someone else is being rediculous.
Someone defiantly checked the bus timetable and it was runing late.
Blimmy, who would of no that?

I could go on but it's giving me the rage

wherethefuckisthefuckingtuna · 18/10/2016 22:40

"Sneak peak" gives me the rage.

I think you mean "peek". Ugh.

sami2885 · 18/10/2016 22:40

acatcalledjohn

Yes exactly that! Grin

JosephineMaynard · 18/10/2016 22:44

Dire rear isn't too bad a typo in that it's a pretty good description of how someone might feel about their bottom if they have diarrhoea.

Footle · 18/10/2016 23:28

I love ohnestly. To be ohnest, I'm defiantly going to start using it.

MopedManiac · 19/10/2016 05:47

Hun being short for honey irritates me! But 'defiantly' gives me the giggles!

MopedManiac · 19/10/2016 05:48

Err now that looks stupid - the o in honey should have been bold! Hmm

anotheronebitthedust · 19/10/2016 05:55

Saw a "destressed" mirror for sale today. No idea if it'd been to the spa or something but nice to know it wasn't worried!

derxa · 19/10/2016 06:36

I love 'fumming'

BellMcEnd · 19/10/2016 07:20

I have a lovely lovely friend but she is most definitely fond of getting as many "huns" into a FB post as possible.

She also uses were (pro. weir) for we'll: eg "were have to go to the pub, soon, hun."

Makes my teeth itch but she's ace. I blame my mother who is the most gigantic grammar pedant in the known universe for my intolerance Hmm

MrsHathaway · 19/10/2016 07:44

Honey perhaps not as concerning as the accounts clerk who didn't understand the difference between 2.4 and 2.04.

This was discovered when she was dealing with currency conversions. At the time USD:GBP was 2.04:1 (can you imagine?!) but she was producing some rather high estimates ...

shirleyknotanotherbot · 19/10/2016 08:21

USD:GBP 2.04:1 Wow! That's a blast from the past!

Saw a good one on that vile thread about unaccompanied migrant teenagers, saying that they should be treated in 'an age appropriate manor' laugh out out out out loud.

Unicorncatsack · 19/10/2016 08:22

Grin at "age appropriate manor". A large stately home not suitable for under 3s.

FurryLittleTwerp · 19/10/2016 08:32

I can understand how some mistakes are made, like Sneak Peak, peak still being an actual word, so just reflects a lack of reading /writing experience & attention to detail, still fucking infuriating though but as for Ohnestly & so on - every single time having to override the Autocorrect to prove oneself wrong - just WTF?

MopedManiac · 19/10/2016 09:01

I think autocorrelation autocorrect has a lot to answer for! My phone will forever remember some wildly mistyped word, refuses to use a proper word (eg insists I mean forward not for) and refuses point blank to remember my daughter's name!!

inappropriateraspberry · 19/10/2016 09:30

My FIL has no problems with spelling, but every FB post has random speech marks! As in: Had a "great time" with the "family" today!
I wonder if he had a really terrible time with us and that we're not his real family!

wasonthelist · 19/10/2016 09:39

I'm very averse to people using adverse in error. Also, like the brought/bought some bright spark seems to have decided to reverse the meanings of worse and worst, and scratch and itch.

thetemptationofchocolate · 19/10/2016 10:27

I noticed adverse used wrongly today oddly enough - on the BBC news page of all places. They may well have been quoting directly but you'd think someone would have checked for SPAG.

Gaviguzzler · 19/10/2016 10:55

Saw this on FB yesterday.....

I'm being very unreasonable but
limeandsoda93 · 19/10/2016 10:58

Every single mum group I'm in has posts about the Advent bottles/sterilisers/pumps. Grrr.

lullaby23 · 19/10/2016 11:10

Similar to en route I saw an MP stated they lost a vote as the Tories voted against 'on block' rather than 'en bloc', appreciate it is a phonetic spelling but still...

Expresso rather than espresso grinds my gears.

Asterix rather than asterisk (quite funny but accidentally!)

ThumbWitchesAbroad · 19/10/2016 11:11

I've been trying to post this for hours - let's see if it works now!

"And... waalaa!" made me howl with laughter. Grin
