I have a 15 day old who had an overnight hospital stay last week for poor feeding and weight loss,he has really improved since. However his toddler sister came home with a tummy bug Friday and today newborn ds has not fed since 8.30am. He vomited badly at 9am, again at 11.30 and has rejected all feeds no matter how much we tried. Syringe fed him at 6pm and he projectiled it all back up. He also has a temp of 35.3 and barely woken all day.

I don't know what to do :(

A&E. You can't be too careful at that age.

I'm no expert but honestly if a very small baby is refusing feeds I'd ring at the very least. Please!

Also have a think about how much he's wee-ed or not in his nappies. They'll want to know if he's not passing urine.

With that temp I would actually 999 especially if lethargic / unresponsive.

Yes 999 will have someone there very fast for a poorly newborn.

I rang 111 the other week for a temperature of 35.5 of my 3 week old DS, and they got us in for little more than a cold, so all things considered (weight loss, bug, lack of feeding) I'd be going over A&E now, he'll be lethargic as he's not eaten/possibly fighting off something but either way, he needs to be monitored because at that age, they can't necessarily regulate their body temperatures = won't be waking/rooting for feed.

How is his nappies?

Please take him to A&E straight away. If he is unable to keep anything down, he will become dehydrated - and this can happen very quickly in babies. Drowsiness is a sign of dehydration. Please take him right now.

Drowsy and low temp is potentially very serious.

Please ring 999 right now.

A&E. Right now this minute. Please. Your baby needs checking over properly, and probably needs to be admitted. If that temperature is accurate, it is worryingly low. Not feeding that long in such a young baby can be dangerous. And not really waking is serious.

Please, drop whatever you are doing, and get up there. Please. Right now.

  1. Better than driving to a&e as the paramedics can assess your baby and give medical attention immediately, amd you won't need Sat waiting in a&e waiting rooms.

A&E. If he isn't feeding that is his only means of hydration and if he is drowsy/unresponsive then I'd be worried. Get him in now, don't take chances at that age.

Yep A&E. You have a newborn who isn't waking or feeding without vomiting.
