To wear my wedding dress to dinner?

DisneyMillie · 14/10/2016 12:00

It's my wedding day tomorrow Smile and I'm just having a fairly low key day with an afternoon tea and drinks at the venue afterwards. My husband (!) and I will then be going out for dinner on our own and I'd like to wear my wedding dress.

It's a mid calf 50s type dress so not massive but obviously bridal. Would this be a terrible plan?

My mother thinks I'm being pathetic and will look ridiculous and can't possibly do it. I'd just rather keep it on as it's my wedding day and I don't see what harm it does.

In case it makes a difference it's a small fine dining restaurant so not many people there and we're eating quite late.

Wear it!

glitterandtinsel · 14/10/2016 13:38

Tbh I would wear a full meringue to a restaurant on my wedding day! Your dress sounds classy and beautiful so you should wear it. Ignore your mum, weddings bring out the worst in some people.

milkyface · 14/10/2016 13:38

Wear it! It's your day enjoy it :)

Is your mother being mean perhaps because your wedding plans aren't what she envisaged?

VanillaSugarandChristmasSpice · 14/10/2016 13:40

💑👰❤💕🎍🎈🎉🎊💍💐

Goingtobeawesome · 14/10/2016 13:41

Congratulations!

I suspect your mum does mean to be as she is and it's the start of you standing up to her and letting her know you don't need her unkind comments.

VanillaSugarandChristmasSpice · 14/10/2016 13:41

Wear it! !!

CheesyWeez · 14/10/2016 13:43

Gazelda
"Don't order spaghetti." Grin made me laugh

My mum did the same thing - small wedding and wore her wedding dress to the restaurant afterwards. Lovely photos Smile

One of my friends wore her wedding dress to fly in on their honeymoon (day after wedding) and got upgraded, just a suggestion...

I hope you have a wonderful wedding day and a lifetime of happiness together Flowers

Nightofthetentacle · 14/10/2016 13:45

This is a great plan! Wear it, and get the waiters to take some marvellous photos of you and your STB-DH! And congratulations in advance!

Therealloislane · 14/10/2016 13:47

Wear it!!

Dh & I met a couple coming out of our local registry office a few weeks back. Just the two of them, hand in hand, smiling like they'd the best secret in the world!

We congratulated them & they asked us for directions to a restaurant not too far away - they clearly were not locals as this is a tourist seaside town and the place is well known . I rang ahead & ordered them a bottle of bubbly & nipped in later & paid for it.

She was wearing the most beautiful 50s halterneck dress, no flowers, just a beautiful bag with a small rose on the front. I grinned all day and it wasn't even my wedding!!

I vote wear it (and make an old romantic like me smile!)

Thereallois that brought tears to my eyes, what a lovely thing to do.

Definitely wear your dress OP have an amazing day, it sounds gorgeous.

spankhurst · 14/10/2016 13:50

If i saw you in the restaurant I'd think it was adorable. You'll look fab.

Slummamumma · 14/10/2016 13:51

Congratulations for tomorrow and absolutely you must wear it! tiny temper 66 - that's hilarious, breakfast in wedding dress - the bridal stopout?!

annandale · 14/10/2016 13:54

Oh if there's going to be a photo I will have to mark my place.

Your dress sounds gorgeous. I will put on my wedding dress at the drop of a hat, and it's a full length job, so I simply can't see why you wouldn't. I'm really mystified by your mother but wouldn't spend much time worrying about her, she sounds a bit limited in her view of life. Poor old thing [head tilt]

LizB62A · 14/10/2016 13:54

It's always lovely to see someone in their wedding dress :-)
Have a lovely day tomorrow !!!

BarbarianMum · 14/10/2016 13:56

I wore my wedding dress to a nightclub because our wedding venue closed at midnight. And it was very definitely a wedding dress (if not a meringue).

I have no idea if people thought it strange or not, I was partying with friends, my dh and didn't notice. Grin

KC225 · 14/10/2016 13:56

It's your wedding day, of course you should wear. Of I saw your party out for dinner and you in a wedding dress, my only thought would be walking past to wish you congratulations

IminaPickle · 14/10/2016 14:01

Definitely wear it! We left our wedding in bridal wear- it was lovely checking into the hotel I might have opened the limo windows and waved on the way too!

Ginslinger · 14/10/2016 14:05

wear it - enjoy it Flowers

Blatherskite · 14/10/2016 14:06

Kuriusoranj said it perfectly. "what sort of curmudgeon would look at you and think anything other than "aaah. They just got married. How lovely."

callmeadoctor · 14/10/2016 14:07

Mine was a meringue that I wore for breakfast too!!! Made everybody smile :-)

ShteakandShpuds · 14/10/2016 14:09

Place marking for a photo. Your dress sounds perfectly fabulous.
Seeing a newly married couple in the same restaurant would definitely make me feel all fuzzy and warm inside.

Bogeyface · 14/10/2016 14:09

I did that at my first wedding and that was the full meringue with veil job! We got lots of people congratulating us and saying how lovely it was to see us. Not one single negative comment at all.

Tell you mother to stop being ridiculous, its not like you are making her wear it!

PotOfYoghurt · 14/10/2016 14:10

Have a lovely wedding day!

I would be so happy to see this in a restaurant. It would make my day.

MLGs · 14/10/2016 14:14

You must wear it. It sounds a great plan even if it were a traditional wedding dress!
