To wear my wedding dress to dinner?

DisneyMillie · 14/10/2016 12:00

It's my wedding day tomorrow Smile and I'm just having a fairly low key day with an afternoon tea and drinks at the venue afterwards. My husband (!) and I will then be going out for dinner on our own and I'd like to wear my wedding dress.

It's a mid calf 50s type dress so not massive but obviously bridal. Would this be a terrible plan?

My mother thinks I'm being pathetic and will look ridiculous and can't possibly do it. I'd just rather keep it on as it's my wedding day and I don't see what harm it does.

In case it makes a difference it's a small fine dining restaurant so not many people there and we're eating quite late.

Wear it!!

TheCaptainsMum · 14/10/2016 13:11

If there's a pathetic and ridiculous female in your family, it's your mum not you. She's so mean for no reason!

EllyMayClampett · 14/10/2016 13:12

Definitely wear the dress! It's most likely the only day you will get to wear it ever. You will look beautiful.

EllyMayClampett · 14/10/2016 13:13

And, btw, if I saw a bride in a restaurant in her dress, it would warm my heart, not make me feel all snooty.

loobyloo1234 · 14/10/2016 13:14

YANBU - wear it ... but only if you promise to post a pic of you on here, the dress sounds lovely

Have a lovely day!

PinkissimoAndPearls · 14/10/2016 13:21

Please ignore your mother and wear it.

I wore mine to the airport and on the plane to our honeymoon as we left the same day. It was great, everyone smiled at us (although we looked a bit odd as DH was wearing jeans Grin) and we got offered/sent so many glasses of champagne which I couldn't drink as I was pregnant Wink People took pictures and we we were first off the plane etc, it was brilliant.

I remember it as one of the best days ever. Please do wear yours!

DisneyMillie · 14/10/2016 13:22

I'll post a photo on Sunday!

Oh, enjoy! I'm a teeny but jealous of you, my wedding day was such a happy day. Wear it with pride, and fun.
Don't order spaghetti.

minmooch · 14/10/2016 13:30

Oh yes do! I got married at lunchtime and just had a lunch do. In the evening a few of us went to the pub - and I kept my full length cream dress on. It was fabulous and I didn't want to take it off.

Do what you want to do.

Lynnm63 · 14/10/2016 13:31

Go for it. When I first read the title I thought you meant to cook dinner on a normal Friday Grin even then I thought well you're not hurting anyone.
We had a big do I wore my dress all day and night, the only concession to night do was hooking up my train with a button and loop so no one stood on it and taking off my veil. We were last to leave the venue and we struggled to get me out of the dress and hooped petticoat at 1.30am. In our defence we were tired pissed Grin.
I hope you have a fantastic day.

ChippyDucks · 14/10/2016 13:32

Yay! Have a fabulous day!
and yes I'm totally placemarking for the lovely photo

Planty18 · 14/10/2016 13:34

I feel excited for you, it sounds like a perfect day - of course you should wear it, blimey I can't think why you wouldn't, it sounds beautiful!

squoosh · 14/10/2016 13:35

Wow your mum sounds great fun OP!

Kel1234 · 14/10/2016 13:35

I think it would be lovely. If it was a full length style, or a bigger style dress it may look out of place. But I'd say go for it.
(I couldn't wait to take my dress off when I got married, but I was 4 months pregnant and had a big princess ballgown with long train, so it was very heavy with being pregnant. Otherwise I probably would have left mine on all night).

AntiHop · 14/10/2016 13:35

I did the same thing! We went to a restaurant and I wore my dress. It wasn't a full on wedding dress but it was still clearly a wedding dress.
