To wear my wedding dress to dinner?

DisneyMillie · 14/10/2016 12:00

It's my wedding day tomorrow Smile and I'm just having a fairly low key day with an afternoon tea and drinks at the venue afterwards. My husband (!) and I will then be going out for dinner on our own and I'd like to wear my wedding dress.

It's a mid calf 50s type dress so not massive but obviously bridal. Would this be a terrible plan?

My mother thinks I'm being pathetic and will look ridiculous and can't possibly do it. I'd just rather keep it on as it's my wedding day and I don't see what harm it does.

In case it makes a difference it's a small fine dining restaurant so not many people there and we're eating quite late.

I wore my wedding dress to the pub and then back to the hotel on the bus (our entire party of 10 rode free - London Routemaster - and the people at the top front gave up their seats).

Everyone in the pub/on the bus thought it was fun and quirky, except for my DB and SIL who thought it was normal (as SIL is from, and they got married in, a country where you go out clubbing in your wedding dress after the meal as a matter of course. Even if it's the middle of winter and muddy puddles all over the ground!)

Congratulations! You look beautiful (fab dress!) and your new husband is very handsome too Grin

Your mother sounds toxic - I wonder if you might find the Stately Homes thread and/or the book Toxic Parents useful?

Beebeeeight · 18/10/2016 16:28

Only if it's not white,.

ImAMoving · 18/10/2016 20:24

beebeeight really.
The OP is already married, and she looked lovely and I think it was a lovely thing to do to go out for dinner on her wedding day in her wedding dress. Would look more strange if in say a big red ball gown type dress that wasn't obviously a wedding dress.

I can't possibly say until we see a pic of the dress Wink

I definitely thought this was going to be a thread about someone wanting to wear their wedding dress to a general dinner or someone else's wedding. In which case my answer would have been "Unless you want to look like Miss Havesham, I wouldn't!" but seeing as it's your own 'do, I think it's fine!
