To wear my wedding dress to dinner?

DisneyMillie · 14/10/2016 12:00

It's my wedding day tomorrow Smile and I'm just having a fairly low key day with an afternoon tea and drinks at the venue afterwards. My husband (!) and I will then be going out for dinner on our own and I'd like to wear my wedding dress.

It's a mid calf 50s type dress so not massive but obviously bridal. Would this be a terrible plan?

My mother thinks I'm being pathetic and will look ridiculous and can't possibly do it. I'd just rather keep it on as it's my wedding day and I don't see what harm it does.

In case it makes a difference it's a small fine dining restaurant so not many people there and we're eating quite late.

Have a lovely day. Congratulations on your wedding. Wear the dress as long as you want. The whole day will go past solo quickly so enjoy it while it lasts.

This is a thing in lots of European cities we have seen the 'bride and groom' walking round in their finery , having a drink with friends in a cafe. I've always thought it a lovely tradition. Enjoy. xx

We went straight to the airport from our wedding reception and I wore my wedding dress all through gatwick up the big escalators to the Hilton and all the tourists took my photo Grin No way was I wearing anything else on my wedding day! I stored it in a bin bag in Left Luggage while we went on honeymoon and picked it up on the way back.

Wear your dress and have a wonderful wedding day Flowers

Pigeonpost · 14/10/2016 14:16

Of course you should wear it, it's your wedding day! We did similar but there were 4 of us for dinner and I wore my dress (also not massively weddingey but still v much a wedding dress) and I had my bouquet with me and the others all had buttonholes/corsages. It was v obviously a wedding but so what, was brilliant, I loved it. Congratulations!

soundsystem · 14/10/2016 14:17

Absolutely, wear it! I loved walking home from the pub in mine in our wedding day Grin

AnnieOnnieMouse · 14/10/2016 14:21

Wear it! The last wedding I went to, the bride wore her dress to afternoon tea and to Cosmo in the evening. Everyone stayed in their finery, including the men in hose and knee britches!

StarsandSparkles · 14/10/2016 14:30

Aww op that will be lovely :) all the best for your big day tomorrow

mysistersimone · 14/10/2016 14:37

Do it do it do it! Even if the dress looks like it's straight out of a big fat gypsy wedding and you were going to Pizza Hut Grin

Your day, you'll be so freaking happy and your face will ache from smiling that you'll be proud to let the world know. Congratulations and best wishes for a long and happy future!

ps, it's so sad when a mum can't be happy for her daughter. Please ignore her, this is not normal.

Scribblegirl · 14/10/2016 14:41

Therealloislane what an incredibly lovely thing to do Star

SquinkiesRule · 14/10/2016 14:44

Do it.
I wore mine to Caesars Palace for drinks after our wedding. We were married in Nevada, we got some free drinks.
I also ate Indian food in my bridemaids dress from when my sister was married. The reception was round the corner in a hotel, and there was a gap before the night do, so my boyfriend took me to eat. I won't tell about taking the crinoline underskirt off and climbing through a window in it

BramblyHedge · 14/10/2016 14:44

We went out for dinner at a pub with 10 family members and i wore my dress (full length). Everyone else in the pub clapped. I also walked through town with my husband to our house in it after the ceremony. Go for it.

Lovesabadboy · 14/10/2016 14:44

Definitely do it!
I, too, would be beaming and so happy to see this in a restaurant, and, indeed, a bottle of something would be sent over!

I was married 24 years ago, so the dress was BIG! (and very obviously a Wedding Dress!)
We checked into a hotel with me still in the dress and not a single person said a single thing! Not even the person checking us in said Congratulations!
I was so disappointed and I have never forgotten it!

wizbet80 · 14/10/2016 14:49

Absolutely! Another here who would send over bubbles and probably get teary. I would love to see you!

BusyBeez99 · 14/10/2016 14:52

Wear it and congratulations have a wonderful day

Weedsnseeds1 · 14/10/2016 14:53

Wear it if you want to, you are the one getting married. Mind you if it was me it would probably end up covered in red wine or curry sauce, but I just can't be trusted not to spill stuff if wearing light colours!

80sWaistcoat · 14/10/2016 14:55

Having seen 3 brides in full get up in the queue for a buffet at Las Vegas - yours sounds a much classier idea. Do it!

80sWaistcoat · 14/10/2016 14:56

Oh and I walked home from the bus stop in mine! At 1 am after being dropped off from the coach we'd hired to get everyone home from the venue. It was easier to be dropped off at the end of the road rather than get the bus to fine its way round the one way system.

SuburbanCrofter · 14/10/2016 14:59

Wear it.

And please, please don't let your mother dent your self-esteem. On this or any other day.

NKFell · 14/10/2016 15:02

Definitely wear it and congratulations!!!

Chottie · 14/10/2016 15:04

Please wear your wedding dress :) it's a very special day and you really want to celebrate it.

StrawberryLime · 14/10/2016 15:06

Do it!! Your mum's being a grumpy pants. The only thing people will be thinking is "aww, how nice."
If they're not, then meh, says more about them than you!
I went down the pub between ceremony and reception venue in mine. Grin

I think your mum is mean miffed because she isn't invited to the meal!

FairyDogMother11 · 14/10/2016 15:22

Wear it! Congratulations and have a brilliant day. You'll look amazing and I'd be delighted to see this if I was out for dinner, it's lovely. Your dress sounds beautiful too! Grin

seagreengirl · 14/10/2016 15:27

Yes do, do wear it.

Whenever I see a bride it always makes me happy SmileFlowersFlowers

gamerwidow · 14/10/2016 15:33

Wear it. I did the same for my wedding. Everyone loves to see a bride (even me and I hate weddings) no-one will think it's stupid.
