To wear my wedding dress to dinner?

DisneyMillie · 14/10/2016 12:00

It's my wedding day tomorrow Smile and I'm just having a fairly low key day with an afternoon tea and drinks at the venue afterwards. My husband (!) and I will then be going out for dinner on our own and I'd like to wear my wedding dress.

It's a mid calf 50s type dress so not massive but obviously bridal. Would this be a terrible plan?

My mother thinks I'm being pathetic and will look ridiculous and can't possibly do it. I'd just rather keep it on as it's my wedding day and I don't see what harm it does.

In case it makes a difference it's a small fine dining restaurant so not many people there and we're eating quite late.

It's your wedding day, why wouldn't you wear your wedding dress?! Ignore your mother. She sounds like a total buzz kill!

When I first (skim) read your post I thought you were already married and just fancied giving the frock another whirl. I was picturing Miss Havisham at her local gastro pub Grin

Have a great day Cake

It's your wedding day! When else are you going to wear your wedding dress? Congratulations and I hope you have a wonderful time.

GeekyWombat · 14/10/2016 12:41

Wear it! Have an amazing meal and enjoy the smiles and good wishes of everyone who sees you eating dinner with your new husband. You might even get some free drinks out of it!

Your mum sounds quite the charmer btw!

mintthins · 14/10/2016 12:42

What a wonderful idea. Congratulations to you both, have a fabulous day and enjoy wearing your dress. Smile

DerelictMyBalls · 14/10/2016 12:42

Go for it! I wore my wedding dress down the pub (old man boozer type place with the horse racing on TV) after my registry office wedding. I hope you have a lovely time.

diddl · 14/10/2016 12:42

Of course wear it!

It's your wedding day so you get to wear it for as long as you want.

Hope it all goes well tomorrow.

MrsHathaway · 14/10/2016 12:43

Absolutely wear it!

If I saw you in that restaurant and you were obviously bridal we'd probably offer you a bottle of champagne or something. Newlyweds are good luck for everybody.

Very best wishes for tomorrow and the rest of your lives.

ALongTimeComing · 14/10/2016 12:44

I would LOVE that! It would be so nice to see.

2kids2dogsnosense · 14/10/2016 12:45

It sounds lovely!

YANBU at all. Have a wonderful day, and a wonderful life together.

Ummm it's your wedding day!!! Why the hell would you NOT wear your wedding dress?! Your DM sounds mean. Wear the dress, look fabulous and give no fucks about anyone else! SmileSmileSmile

Congratulations on your wedding! Xx

CheesyWeez · 14/10/2016 12:46

I would be thrilled to see a wedding couple eating near me in a restaurant, how lovely. Why wouldn't you wear it? It's your wedding day, you're the bride, you've bought a lovely dress especially, wear it!

RollerDiscoQueen · 14/10/2016 12:46

You might even get some free drinks out of it!

You should wear it for a week OP Wink

Tumilnaughts · 14/10/2016 12:49

Congratulations on your wedding day! My DH and I did something similar for our wedding and I wore my dress proudly all day and night. Only had positive comments from people so go for it! Smile

DailyMailFuckRightOff · 14/10/2016 12:49

Wear it, and if you haven't already done so let the restaurant know that it's your wedding celebration meal.

I love it when you're out and about and you see a couple in their wedding finery. Always makes me a little teary :)

And congratulations btw. Have a FABULOUS day! Time enough for 'normal' clothes on every other day!

OlennasWimple · 14/10/2016 12:51

Of course you should wear it!

I thought you were going to post that you had been invited to dinner for someone's birthday and the only posh dress you had was the one you wore for your wedding day, or something like that.

It's a no brainer - unless you want an excuse to buy another posh dress Wink

DisneyMillie · 14/10/2016 12:52

😄 we're having a wine flight with the meal so I think I'd pass out if we were offered any more to drink! (Lovely though the gesture would be)

Thank you everyone - I felt quite down after seeing her earlier (not over the dress - she just manages to make me feel that way sometimes - she doesn't mean to just she's a bit difficult) and you've all cheered me up!

Is your mother usually a misery guts who likes to piss all over people's joy? Calling you 'pathetic' was very harsh indeed.

Marmite27 · 14/10/2016 12:56

Do it, even if it was a huge dress, I'd still say do it - your wedding day is really the only day a wedding dress is acceptable Smile

Rrross1ges · 14/10/2016 12:58

Yes wear it and post us a picture afterwards!

Dexterjamesmummy · 14/10/2016 12:58

I love to see brides in their wedding dresses, don't listen to anyone else it's your dress make sure you wear it!

LetsJunglyJumpToIt · 14/10/2016 13:00

Of course you should wear it! And tell the restaurant, you might get some champagne!

seminakedinsomebodyelsesroom · 14/10/2016 13:00

You clearly don't need any more votes for 'wear it' but I'm adding mine anyway. It sounds wonderful and it would fill me with joy to see you if I were dining in the same restaurant.

I hope you have a lovely day (ignore your mum!).

Congratulations!!

BenguinsMummy · 14/10/2016 13:01

Do it... Me and hubby went for a McDonald's in full wedding dress after ours :) it's your day... All that matters is how you feel about it....

TheProblemOfSusan · 14/10/2016 13:02

We got married in a big city with a bit of travelling between venues - one of the nicest things was random people smiling at us, saying congrats and wishing us well. Wear it, enjoy it, and tell your mother not to be so bloody ridiculous.

SoggyWetFlannel · 14/10/2016 13:02

Congratulations! As everybody has said, wear it and with pride! Your mother is being a sour puss.
