To wear my wedding dress to dinner?

DisneyMillie · 14/10/2016 12:00

It's my wedding day tomorrow Smile and I'm just having a fairly low key day with an afternoon tea and drinks at the venue afterwards. My husband (!) and I will then be going out for dinner on our own and I'd like to wear my wedding dress.

It's a mid calf 50s type dress so not massive but obviously bridal. Would this be a terrible plan?

My mother thinks I'm being pathetic and will look ridiculous and can't possibly do it. I'd just rather keep it on as it's my wedding day and I don't see what harm it does.

In case it makes a difference it's a small fine dining restaurant so not many people there and we're eating quite late.

Definitely wear it! You only get to wear your wedding dress for one day so you get to decide for how long, and where. I think your mum is being harsh to say its pathetic, I don't think it would look ridiculous at all. Hope you have a lovely day Smile

Wow you DM sounds a delight, wear it and enjoy it Smile

As long as it's not McDonalds then Go for it!

Hope you have a great day! Smile

ladyformation · 14/10/2016 12:17

starsinyourpies I would also send champagne and get a bit teary, and I don't even have pregnancy to excuse me.

OP definitely do it, what a lovely way to spend your evening.

CoraPirbright · 14/10/2016 12:18

Sounds gorgeous & you should def wear it! Gosh, your mum sounds quite unpleasant!

Spudlet · 14/10/2016 12:19

My wedding dress was a fifties style number and I loved wearing it, you won't want to take it off! And you'll look beautiful. Have a wonderful day 🍾

idontlikealdi · 14/10/2016 12:19

Totally wear it! I'd love I see that if I was out. Congratulations!

blueskyinmarch · 14/10/2016 12:19

Of course you should wear it. It is your wedding day and your wedding dinner! I hope it looks sufficiently wedding like so you get lots of free champagne!

RobotLover68 · 14/10/2016 12:19

If I saw you I would think "how lovely" go for it

GinAndTunic · 14/10/2016 12:22

Iwasbornin1993 · 14/10/2016 12:24

Another one here who would send you champagne and get teary! Definitely wear it OP, it's your wedding day, the thoughts of anyone else (including your DM) are irrelevant! Have a great day Flowers

RattieOfCatan · 14/10/2016 12:24

Wear it! Mine got worn to an Indian restaurant Grin It was a similar style by the sounds of things (though I got mine taken up to knee height as the slightly longer dresses make me look like I have no legs! Hmm Grin )

Have a wonderful day!

PickledCauliflower · 14/10/2016 12:26

Have a lovely day x

APlaceOnTheCouch · 14/10/2016 12:26

Have a fabulous day Flowers

ByAndByTheWay · 14/10/2016 12:27

Wear it! I am always delighted to see people in their wedding clothes. Yes people might look, but in a nice way. Have a wonderful day!

BathshebaAndGabriel · 14/10/2016 12:32

Do it, love.
Have fun.

CocktailQueen · 14/10/2016 12:32

Wear it! How lovely :)

BadToTheBone · 14/10/2016 12:33

I always get a pang of regret when a bride takes her wedding dress off, I've seen people get changed during the day. It really isn't any of my business and I'm not usually so sentimental. Lol. If I was in the restaurant and you walked in, it would make my night and I'd be beaming! Do it!

LonnyVonnyWilsonFrickett · 14/10/2016 12:36

Wear it! I'd send you a drink over and probably get a bit teary...

MrsKellyJones · 14/10/2016 12:38

Do it! Congratulations and have a wonderful day.

icanteven · 14/10/2016 12:38

Your Mum is a gloomypants, like the Mitfords' nanny, who said to Diana Mitford when she was worrying about her veil on her wedding day to Bryan Guinness "Never mind, darling. Nobody's going to be looking at you."

WEAR YOUR WEDDING DRESS. God almighty. You'll look wonderful - and yes - probably get at least one bottle of champagne sent over!

Congratulations!

beela · 14/10/2016 12:39

Wear it!

My friend wore her wedding dress to the local nightclub (where her and DH had met) when the reception finished but they wanted to carry on partying. Everyone thought it was ace!

TheCatsMother99 · 14/10/2016 12:39

Wear it!!

Have fun tomorrow Smile
