My DD is just 4 months old, we've not visited my best mates for 3 weeks as her LB (5) had chicken pox. She told me the coast was clear so I popped in for a visit.
I get a message today telling me her youngest now has pox. Aibu to be fuming at her for putting my daughter at risk? I know I am also at fault but I'm so angry right now... my daughters been poorly with a cold & has just cluster fed all day, refusing to sleep. I'm taking her to the doctors in the morning.
Aibu vent this anger at risking my daughters health at my friend?

Also, she won't have chicken pox symptoms yet, if she was exposed today. And if she does get it, please don't take her to the doctor.

If you were that concerned you should have googled incubation periods and when children are contagious... Your friend gave you the information that she had, it was YOU who made the decision to visit, it's not like she thrust a pox ridden child into your house against your will!

YABU. Her biggest kid was over the infectious stage, and her youngest wouldn't have shown any signs that he was going to get it until a while after the big one had stopped being infectious. My boys had it about 3 weeks apart. My youngest has never had it despite being in contact with many kids who were contagious! Apparently kids are most contagious before they show any symptoms, it's pretty hard to remove the risk of chicken pox.

And to be honest, it was a lot easier dealing with a chicken poxy baby (6months) than a 2 year old as far as I was concerned. She might be doing you a favour!

You could have predicted that for yourself as they are siblings, it's not hard to work out that risk. I doubt she deliberately didn't tell you on purpose, what would she gain from that? You must have known the chances of the sibling coming down with it were high, you are being slightly hysterical.

Oh, and yes, YABU. She might not even develop any spots, it might be a cold/bug/off day. Incubation period of two weeks anyway isn't it?

She couldn't have known her youngest was going to get it as they are just at the outside of the incubation period (it is 10-21 days), so I think YABU

And the GP won't do anything except tell you to look out for chicken pox spots which could come out at any time in the next 3 weeks

Theres no guarantee your LO will get chicken pox and i'm sure your Dr wont be able to tell you tomorrow whether or not they have them, equally i'm sure your friend didn't know her LO had the virus either until the spots came so yes YABU.
She's let you know so now you can be prepared for if your LO has caught them.

Stick some extra Calpol on your weekly shop. It's only Chicken Pox, it's not a big deal.

Dreaming, sorry but you are being ridiculous! Chicken pox is not an exact science and I would assume after 3 weeks the coast would be clear, just unlucky other child came down with it today. She didn't expose your dd knowingly and you could have stayed away if you felt it was risky. Poor friend, she will be climbing the walls at having to stay in for another week/10 days, - bit of sympathy her way would be nice.
My dd1 had chicken pox 3 days after dd2 came along, dd2 didn't get it.
