To have had a little snigger, even though it's really not funny

Friend of a friend type situation. He told his long-term live in girlfriend it was over 5 weeks ago. She didn't take it well and they haven't yet sorted out who's going to move out etc (I've no idea of any details of their relationship or if she's entitled to feel wronged etc)

Anyway, he's been excited to have qualified for the World Championships in a fairly obscure sport and arrived at the airport for his flight this morning. At check-in, he discovered the photo page from his passport is missing!

It's not funny. It's terrible. But I will admit my first reaction was a little snigger at the genius!

What's made you laugh when it really shouldn't have?

OP posts:
VeryBitchyRestingFace · 13/10/2016 17:40

I'm saying that you're using the same excuse to justify repulsive behaviour
that abusers typically use to justify theirs.

There is absolutely no reason to suppose or bet on the bloke in this situation deserving/asking for what his ex did. Unless you're in some way predisposed to think that when someone does something horrible to an ex/partner, the ex/partner must have automatically have deserved it ("no smoke without fire", etc). There is zero information from the OP to suggest

AbernathysFringe · 13/10/2016 18:04

A previous GF of my ex did similar - she tore out one page from several of his books - every so often he'd be reading a book and suddenly swear as the next page wasn't there. I was torn - it was really annoying but I felt a touch of admiration for the long lastingness of her revenge. He was an arrogant academic type (with good points too of course) so it was rather perfect.

Waltermittythesequel · 13/10/2016 18:14

But the book thing isn't exactly harmful!

It's annoying but doesn't do any real damage. (I'd be raging because I love my books.)

This, though, is on another level.

I hate doing the gender thing but can you imagine if a poster came on and said she'd ended a relationship that just wasn't working, was flying to the World Championships of her sport, and found out her bitter ex had done this?

I guarantee nearly every post would be telling her to call the police.

This is not ok.

And maybe the sport is niche but it's obviously a massive deal to him!

I'm really shocked by the responses. I hope you all remember how funny this is next time a woman comes on with a similar tale...

19Hannah · 13/10/2016 18:15

Me and her could be friends! She sounds evil Grin

whattheseithakasmean · 13/10/2016 18:33

I have competed at a high level in a niche sport. Ok, it isn't the olympics, but it takes a fuck ton of work, dedication, training and sacrifice. All to be ripped away by petty spite. Shameful.

Fi61wales · 13/10/2016 18:33

A neighbour did similar a few years ago. Police turned up at her place of work and arrested her. She had to go to court. She didn't find it very funny in the end.

Jessikita · 13/10/2016 19:38

I'm a hypocrite. I did snigger but the only time it would have actually been reallynfunny is if he was going on holiday with someone he was cheating on her with.

Purplealienpuke · 13/10/2016 20:15

Maybe he was off to the 'air sex' championship. It's really a thing..... think air guitar with sexual gyration's! If he was I can see why she'd do that. Probably she's just immature and stupid & he's well rid 🤔

Purplealienpuke · 13/10/2016 20:19

An ex of my now ex, was calling repeatedly. He didn't take the call. When he listened to the message it was her farting! People do strange shot when they're hurt, rightly or wrongly 😨

BarbarianMum · 13/10/2016 20:31

I have long ago come to the conclusion that, in Mumsnet-land, there is literally no way a man can break up with a woman that doesn't make him a total bastard. This is just evidence of that. He must have done something to deserve it. ..because, because otherwise a woman would be in the wrong.

Tapandgo · 13/10/2016 20:50

Hope charges are pressed and she gets her comeuppance. I guess the vicious and disproportionate way she responds to things she doesn't like might be a clue as to why the relationship ended. At any rate, it must confirm he was right to end it.

shallichangemyname · 13/10/2016 21:29

I had a friend who got divorced back in the days when we still had blue passports which included a section for "distinguishing features". She helpfully filled it in with the words "no penis"
Her husband was an arse, we all enjoyed the joke for years.

PuntCuffin · 13/10/2016 22:10

Not funny. Just spiteful and unnecessary.

I have a relative who decide after falling out with a work colleague to post their details on an 'alternative' dating website. Stupidly, he used his work computer to do it, so when the colleague was inundated with requests it got traced back to my relative and he lost his job. Deservedly.

Not funny. Just makes me think how unpleasant she must be.

LittleMouseontheDairy · 13/10/2016 22:48

jizzomlette oh dear your little vignette did amuse me. Not because your poor DS was gutted but because of your unwitting reaction and the context in which you told it (laughing when you shouldn't). Made me feel all drunkenly fuzzy about MN and why I love it.

LittleMouseontheDairy · 13/10/2016 22:50
  • jizzomelette Sigh too much wine even though it's only Thursday
TiggyD · 13/10/2016 23:09

Congratulations on him escaping such a spiteful person. Hope she gets arrested.

Haudyerwheesht · 13/10/2016 23:15

I hope Dd doesn't turn out like this. Ds (9) was mean to her today. She didn't retailiate. At bedtime though his book he is reading and loving is missing. All search high and low (including her) until finally she admits she hid it. 😡😡

WetsTheFinger · 13/10/2016 23:48

That is rather evilly hilarious. ShockGrin

BoneyBackJefferson · 14/10/2016 07:04

This thread is daily mail worthy.

Rdoo · 14/10/2016 07:34

Well isn't this thread showing up the ugly side of mumsnet nicely. Pathetic.

PolarBearLover14 · 14/10/2016 09:20

I'm pretty sure she could get charged for criminal damage - altering passports is really frowned on.
She shouldn't have done it, there was always his favourite suit to snip at. 🤔

Confusednotcom · 14/10/2016 10:27

I like a joke but that really is pretty unforgivable.

Ladycakescc81 · 15/10/2016 17:05

Oh that is clever... But bordering on Bunny boiler! he must have really peed her off!

Things I have giggled at that I shouldn't....
In church (when a child) organist leant on organ in a quiet part of service and made a horror movie type music by accident) I snorted laughing and got tutted at by an old lady!
I'm also really bad for giggling when nervous I giggled during a smear! Lol oops!
