To have had a little snigger, even though it's really not funny

Friend of a friend type situation. He told his long-term live in girlfriend it was over 5 weeks ago. She didn't take it well and they haven't yet sorted out who's going to move out etc (I've no idea of any details of their relationship or if she's entitled to feel wronged etc)

Anyway, he's been excited to have qualified for the World Championships in a fairly obscure sport and arrived at the airport for his flight this morning. At check-in, he discovered the photo page from his passport is missing!

It's not funny. It's terrible. But I will admit my first reaction was a little snigger at the genius!

What's made you laugh when it really shouldn't have?

isn't defacing someone's passport
illegal

Absolutely. Your pass port is actually the property of The Queen. So yes. She could very likely find herself behind bars. It won't be so funny then.

eurochick · 12/10/2016 20:51

I think it's shitty and reflects poorly on her.

Shakey15000 · 12/10/2016 20:58

Hmm, not funny. But I am basing my opinion that way because an ex of mine stole all the photos I had of my (deceased) father, a pair of candlesticks and my passport. I was fucking LIVID but told him I'd always have the memories of my Dad, my passport could be renewed and he could shove the candlesticks up his arse. Sideways.

3luckystars · 12/10/2016 21:00

I know it's a crime, but How could they prove who did it though?

I think it's really terrible, so bad, I know it's only temporary until he gets a new passport but its like taking away someone's freedom (to travel).
It's low.

TattyCat · 12/10/2016 21:02

It's infantile, not clever and certainly not 'genius'. And I don't care how the relationship ended. He's well rid.

BoneyBackJefferson · 12/10/2016 21:02

She is a nasty piece of work, sounds like he has had a lucky escape.

Pineapplemilkshake · 12/10/2016 21:07

I think it's funny, obvs not for him but I couldn't help but laugh too. I realise this makes me a horrible person Grin

BennyTheBall · 12/10/2016 21:09

She sounds like a nasty piece of work.

Best revenge is living well/taking the high road.

Memoires · 12/10/2016 21:15

Horrified admiration - perfect description.

As others have said, I do hope he behaved appallingly to her, otherwise very over the top.

Was it he who discovered the page was missing or someone at the airport checking him in? I wonder if they gave it back to him?o

Sniv · 12/10/2016 21:15

I think that's really shitty.

Unless there was some background motivation (like cheating or a cruel break up, etc), if your love for a person can suddenly turn to spiteful revenge like that, you can't have loved them a great deal in the first place, surely?

Memoires · 12/10/2016 21:17

Is it treason to destroy state property?

potentialqualms · 12/10/2016 21:21

I don't know the details of the break-up.

It was discovered when he tried to check in. He's spent the day trying to get it replaced, but as the photo is missing, it's not straight forward and will apparently take a week.

I agree it's not at all funny. In my defense my snigger was when I initially assumed he was going away on a (fairly regular) work trip. It turned to Shock when I realised he'd miss a major competition.

AmysTiara · 12/10/2016 21:22

Shit thing to do to someone.

Floggingmolly · 12/10/2016 21:24

It's a pathetic thing to do to anyone irregardless of the consequences. Why would missing a work trip (which could have landed him in shit with his employers) make it any funnier?

NeedATrim · 12/10/2016 21:25

The posters stories about the eggs and jizzomelettes' tale about the bracelet made me nearly wake the baby for my laughing Grin

exLtEveDallas · 12/10/2016 21:29

I did an involuntary snort but then I squirmed in horror. It is a pretty rotten thing to do.

Although the wax strip thing...

There is this tape called Denso. It's self amalgamating - it's super sticky, even in the wet and it sticks to itself and kind of merges, no edges are left. There was this creep who liked to sneak into the girls bedrooms at night and we were all getting scared as well as pissed off.

His mates had a novel way of warning him off. Rather than report him he was held down/tied up and given a Denso nappy. He was a rather hairy individual.

According to the medics he was still showing signs of tape 6 weeks later...

cardibach · 12/10/2016 21:38

NKFell he was an attention seeking twat too. Just not funny.

KurriKurri · 12/10/2016 21:38

I think as others have said she has committed a criminal offence - so he might have the last laugh if he reports it.

My X was pretty shitty to me, but I always felt I'd rather not lower myself to his level by taking revenge. Keep your dignity and be the classy one who behaves well even when the X has behaved badly. - indifference (or feigning indifference) is far better revenge IMO.

Mindfields · 12/10/2016 21:40

If he'd been heading off for a holiday with the OW then I'd have gone with the Evil Genius label.

As it stands (no evidence of cheating, qualified for a World Championship) that was a pretty awful thing to do.

OP is there any chance you could get more detail on the background as I'm not sure how far up my judgypants should be hoiked atm.

potentialqualms · 12/10/2016 21:42

Well, I barely know him and he's devastated to be missing his trip. I suppose I could ask him what he did to deserve it Grin

OP posts:
MidSqueak · 12/10/2016 21:43

Nope, not funny, not at all - and what if he'd had to make a mercy dash to see a sick relative or something, which has happened to me.

LynetteScavo · 12/10/2016 21:44

Is it a sport involving him jumping out of a plane? --I may know him and it serves him bloody right. I

bloodyteenagers · 12/10/2016 21:46

You should have asked him before you decided to post on line to have a giggle at his expense.
How you going to feel if he did nothing and the childish behavior was why he ended things?

Queenbean · 12/10/2016 21:47

Or when this thread ends up in the daily mail....

cardibach · 12/10/2016 21:48

Exactly Kurri. You don't want to give him the opportunity to say, 'Well look how she behaves - who could live with that?'
