To not wear clean clothes everyday

Happyhippy45 · 10/10/2016 16:47

Clothes are not "dirty," they don't smell and I don't want to wash them. I hang them up on a peg/chair to air and wear another couple of times over the course of the week.
DH doesn't understand this and thinks it's a bit minky.
Talking about tops, jeans etc......not pants and socks. Bras are a whole nother subject.

my paranoia sorry 😂. highly recommend the Soak

Chopstick17 · 12/10/2016 15:31

I don't smell therefore my clothes take a long time to smell! Maybe these people don't shower often enough lol

DameDiazepamTheDramaQueen · 12/10/2016 16:03

I can't understand the people who will change a top every day but wear a bra for days on end. Do what you like but don't kid yourself that it's clean because it IS near your arm pits and next to your skin.

OhtoblazeswithElvira · 12/10/2016 16:07

Oh bras do get sweaty... sweat patches creeping up the cups, sweat gathering down your cleavage...

Of course I shower, at least once a day, and use heavy duty antiperspirant FFS as if it was that simple Hmm

I'll say it again, people, if you finish your day without smelling and without clothes damp with sweat you are lucky. Some of us aren't. Washing dirty clothes is not wasting water or energy - it's what you have to do to in order to get them clean.

Quite!

KellyElly · 12/10/2016 16:27

Not trousers, skirts or jeans or my bra, but everything else after one wear. Actually, I don't do vest tops every day either as they haven't been on my armpit. Pyjamas/bed wear, once every three days, I'd say.

Londonmamabychance · 12/10/2016 16:42

Only wash 'outer' things if they smell bad or have visible stains. If not, why on earth wash it? That's just wasteful, time consuming and wears the clothes out quicker. I even sometimes clean off Easily removable stains from dry clean only clothes with a warm cloth and then just iron the thing. I change underwear and socks and slips/ camisoles every day and Shower every day and often put on clothes I've worn many times before on top afterwards. Bras, lol, I wear them forever as he ones I buy are expensive and only handle handwashing! I only wash them once they smell.

worriedabouthimagain · 12/10/2016 16:52

Me Dh and dd 4 and ds 8m gets changed daily into clean stuff. Kids sometimes more if they get some food on there clothes we also shower once a day with a clean towel each as u can til I do 1-2 wash per day

DameDiazepamTheDramaQueen · 12/10/2016 16:57

I'd never wear night shirt or pajamas more than once. Probably did when I was younger but menopause is knocking the door!

SukeyTakeItOffAgain · 12/10/2016 17:01

Things like jumpers and cardis, trousers and skirts will smell "fresh" if you hang them on the line or by an open window overnight. If your definition if "fresh" means smelling of detergent and fabric condition though, maybe not.

e1y1 · 12/10/2016 17:43

Anything worn next to skin is washed after every wear. Jeans, jumpers etc are usually worn at least twice, unless they have picked up any smells or stains.

Also agree with PP about the smell of some peoples' detergents, you can smell them at 20 paces, all walking around advertising what detergent they use.

Don't get me wrong, I like the smell of fresh laundry and there are some lovely scented Comforts etc about, but when it overpowers your perfume, that's a problem. Comfort costs £3, perfume costs £80 - I know what I'd rather smell of.

worrierandwine · 12/10/2016 17:44

I'm happy to keep wearing something unless it looks or smells dirty. Pants, socks changed everyday, bra every few days. I read somewhere that Levi's had done a test on the amount of bacteria on jeans after a year vs two weeks and the difference was virtually nil therefore I only wash my jeans when they're visibly dirty.

Mamafaery · 12/10/2016 17:50

Socks, bras, tights and underpants get washed after each wear. Regular clothes don't, they get aired out and hung in a separate place. I will wash them if they have visible dirt. Anything tight fitting around any part of my body gets a sniff test and then re washed if it's stinky. I'd feel like I was being really wasteful if I washed everything after one wear regardless of condition. If something got super crinkled I might wash it after one wear because it feels icky ironing something that's already been worn.

Katherine2626 · 12/10/2016 17:52

I always washed everything after every wear when I was a teenager, but noticed my skirts. jumpers etc. started to look tired very quickly. As I always shower morning and evening I did start to hang things up overnight and see how they were the next day - and certainly outer clothes were fine, clean, and if a little creased i would steam them for a few minutes. Most things get worn twice now, which cuts washing by a half so they do look newer longer, but of course undies are clean every day - couldn't imagine putting on a worn pair of socks/tights etc. Phew!

GrumpyOldBag · 12/10/2016 18:06

Pants and tights washed after every wear.

Anything in contact with armpits after every wear.

Bras after 3 days.

Other items - when they look dirty or start to smell. I have been wearing the same jumper every day for 2 weeks now!

Gwenhwyfar · 12/10/2016 18:47

" wear a bra for days on end. Do what you like but don't kid yourself that it's clean because it IS near your arm pits and next to your skin."

It's not around the armpit so it doesn't get armpit smell like a tight top would.

Gwenhwyfar · 12/10/2016 18:50

"I'll say it again, people, if you finish your day without smelling and without clothes damp with sweat you are lucky. Some of us aren't."

And I'll say to you that if you sweat through three layers of clothes to your coat then you should see your doctor. Menopause (if that's what it is) shouldn't be so unkind.
I suspect you've developed some kind of paranoia if you think your coat is sweaty.

Gwenhwyfar · 12/10/2016 18:53

"creasing has nothing to do with being dirty. maybe not, but in my mind there is a direct link between jeans that are creased to hell which look like they have been worn for days and 'they must be dirty if they have been wearing them for days'. Its a connected thought."

You have issues. Plenty of people don't iron jeans and some styles look creased all the time.

Gwenhwyfar · 12/10/2016 18:55

"it stops them [bras] going that awful grey colour especially the white ones."

It's the washing that makes them go grey.

OhtoblazeswithElvira · 12/10/2016 18:59

I suspect that if you can't accept that other people's clothes or bodies are different to yours, you are lacking in empathy, imagination or understanding Smile

DameDiazepamTheDramaQueen · 12/10/2016 18:59

Menopause (if that's what it is) shouldn't be so unkind shouldn't be but often is.

merrymouse · 12/10/2016 19:11

Agree gwen.

Bras are white because of fabric brighteners. They eventually turn grey when the fabric brighteners are washed out.

Lovely70 · 12/10/2016 19:15

Yanbu the only clothing I change everyday is underwear, socks and t shrits. Jumpers, jeans, trousers and skrits all get a couple of wears unless it's been really hot that day.

jennn · 12/10/2016 19:24

More than 2 wears is dirty in my book for any outwear! And I have to wash bedding at least once a week! (You're in it for approx 50 - 60 hours per week - bleugh!)

FluffyPineapple · 12/10/2016 19:33

I spend most of my day in dog walking clothes. I don't see any point in getting up, showering, putting clean clothes on, picking up clients dogs only to spend 3 hours walking in the woods. I wear these 'work' clothes for about 4 days. When I come home and my work is done I shower and change into clean clothes. Apart from knickers I wear these "clean" clothes for about 3 days before I wash them. I change again if I go out in the evening. PJ's are changed every other day. Bedding is washed every week.

Everyone's lifestyle is different. There is a big difference between the absolutely stinky person we very seldom bump into than someone who has worn the same bra or t shirt for a few days.....
