To be fed up of comparisons with 1930s Germany in U.K. politics?

Surely a better and far less potentially offensive comparison is the 1980s?

Labour in disarray, therefore weak opposition, and a female PM of course.

Comparisons with the rise of the extreme far right in Germany have little place. The BNP are the equivalent to Hitler and his party and thankfully have little mainstream support.

Can I ask you something? Do you post a lot on these Referendum threads? If so, do you ever feel like you are getting anywhere?

Yes, yes I do. Because I think it is an important thing to discuss.

TheElementsSong · 09/10/2016 11:17

If you think this country is undemocratic, the thing to do is to not exercise democratic rights such as free speech? Confused

Smirnoffka · 09/10/2016 11:18

There is nothing like having your suspicions confirmed

Exactly, as I thought .... Marxists, Corbynites.

smallfox2002 · 09/10/2016 11:20

Dimwit springs more to mind.

time4chocolate · 09/10/2016 11:22

I worry about what sort of attitudes people are passing on to their children if anything on here is just a taster i.e. Half the country are uneducated, xenophobic, lower class, we are superior and we know better because we have a degree, you've ruined this country blah blah blah. It's all over these threads and is about as ugly as you can get, now that to my mind is more 1930s Germany.

I will continue teaching my children tolerance and respect for others.

TheElementsSong · 09/10/2016 11:22

Play the ball,smallfox.

Smirnoffka · 09/10/2016 11:23

Some of you talk as if you are not allowed free speech. Some of you talk as if the UK is one of the worst countries in the world. You are overstating your cases. Instead of talking to each other, you should try asking people like my parents who survived a famine how life was for them before & after. In fact, after was a German slave camp. I thankfully never experienced that level of deprivation, but at least I am aware where this country is in the food chain, so to speak.

You guys just prattle on about some academics not being invited to consult.

TheElementsSong · 09/10/2016 11:25

And half the country are cowardly, unpatriotic, Marxist, traitors, hysterical blah blah blah.

TheElementsSong · 09/10/2016 11:26

Some of you talk as if the UK is one of the worst countries in the world.

I'm sure you'll be able to C&P some specific examples.

Smirnoffka · 09/10/2016 11:27

Not half, just a very few.

UncontrolledImmigrant · 09/10/2016 11:29

I am interested in this idea of being a traitor, smirnoffka

How is a person, thinking critical thoughts about a country in the privacy of their own home, perhaps even stating them aloud traitorous

To whom have they betrayed the country, and how?

GreenandWhite · 09/10/2016 11:30

UncontrolledImmigrant I like your user name Smile

smallfox2002 · 09/10/2016 11:30

No one has described the UK as one of the worst countries in the world.

Here, have some straw for your man.

WidowWadman · 09/10/2016 11:30

Not sure if posted before, but I think this explains very well what's happening and how we got there.

"You guys just prattle on about some academics not being invited to consult."

These academic we 'prattle' on about are in the best position to secure a good deal for the UK, possibly minimising the economic downturn post the triggering Brexit possibly, which will ultimately impact your food prices to stay with your analogy of the food chain? Try to look at the bigger picture if you can.

Inkanta · 09/10/2016 11:33

'Yes, yes I do. Because I think it is an important thing to discuss.'

TheElementSong

Are you British? You said something a few minutes ago about, "citizen of the world, citizen of nowhere".
What is your situation ?

GreenandWhite · 09/10/2016 11:34

me thinks there are some furry creature or we have been infiltrated by BNP bots.

Smirnoffka · 09/10/2016 11:38

You prattle on, ladies, as if you know 1930s Germany, it's a joke to think that you can even begin to compare.

Until 15 yrs ago my parents knew quite a few Germans and Czechs from that era, gone now. They thought that England was a wonderful place, despite its puny career politicians and professional self-promoting agitators who had never known fascism, but gave themselves a job with a halo.

Current Britain cannot be compared to 1930s Germany, but Zimbabwe can. Have a go at that.

Smirnoffka · 09/10/2016 11:40

I think this thread has been infiltrated by the communisty party of GB.

SwedishEdith · 09/10/2016 11:40

Agree, very odd. Traitor is the insult du jour now isn't it?

UncontrolledImmigrant · 09/10/2016 11:41

Why even ask what someone's 'situation' is

What difference does it make to the validity of their points

What prevents anyone from making up an answer anyway

Like, as for me, I'm the king of Ruritania

smallfox2002 · 09/10/2016 11:43

Funny that traitor was often applied to people who didn't agree with government policy in Germany and the 1930's.

Oh the irony.

UncontrolledImmigrant · 09/10/2016 11:44

No communists in Ruritania, thanks

Are you some kind of traitor? What's your situation?

Hmm
smallfox2002 · 09/10/2016 11:46

Oh and communist too.

Smirnoffka · 09/10/2016 11:48

I never spoke of 'traitor'. But as you have confirmed your position, please now all stand for The Internationale ...... I can hear the first strains very faintly .......
yep, here it is.
