To be fed up of comparisons with 1930s Germany in U.K. politics?

Surely a better and far less potentially offensive comparison is the 1980s?

Labour in disarray, therefore weak opposition, and a female PM of course.

Comparisons with the rise of the extreme far right in Germany have little place. The BNP are the equivalent to Hitler and his party and thankfully have little mainstream support.

some people are more resistant to change and find it harder to adjust or adapt

Ah yes, Schrödinger's Remainer - simultaneously a petrified, cowardly and close-minded victim unable to adapt to the stormy seas of change, and also a rootless, shifting, unpatriotic "citizen of the world, citizen of nowhere" whose outward gaze exemplifies their questionable loyalties to our great nation and who stubbornly continue to speak words of defiance again the Will of The People. Truly a tormented creature deserving of pity Grin.

What do you mean - what bother's you?

Come down a bit. Why so defensive??

Smirnoffka · 09/10/2016 10:53

There will come a time in the future when there will be a 52/48 vote in a GE in favour of a Left leaning party, and the disappointed will have to accept it.

TheElementsSong · 09/10/2016 10:56

Come down a bit. Why so defensive??

Are you (gasp) sneering? Actually, I'm finding your posts hilarious, thanks.

smallfox2002 · 09/10/2016 10:56

That split would be unlikely to win enough seat for a majority government and would be a hung parliament.

No one has to accept anything, the sine qua non of a democracy is to be able to challenge and debate.

Smirnoffka · 09/10/2016 10:59

As long as its English born guts and imagination, eh!!

Why do you hate this country so much? England has a good proportion of children born to foreigners from all over who are English by culture but British by nationality. I love the UK.

Helmetbymidnight · 09/10/2016 11:02

Err I don't hate this country. Where did you get that from?

smallfox2002 · 09/10/2016 11:03

Do not equate patriotism for nationalism.

No.

It's my first post on this thread. Is this what you normally do? Doesn't sound like you want to talk.

I think I am saying something useful.

Smirnoffka · 09/10/2016 11:04

In your sneering "as long as it's English ...."

What's wrong with English, British, GB, UK? What's wrong with YOU?

Helmetbymidnight · 09/10/2016 11:06

Actually I find it really interesting that you would accuse people of unpatriotism...is that where we are now?

Interesting. Of course there is no resemblance there to 1930s Germany- no none at all.

Smirnoffka · 09/10/2016 11:07

Do not equate patriotism for nationalism

Madam, I have not detected one iota of patriotism in you; just rubbishing this country, which I presume is not yours?

Helmetbymidnight · 09/10/2016 11:09

Wow!

smallfox2002 · 09/10/2016 11:09

You do make me laugh.

TheElementsSong · 09/10/2016 11:10

Is this what you normally do? Doesn't sound like you want to talk.

Are you confusing me with someone else? Confused I've been talking plenty, and clearly you initially thought I was talking, in an apparently overexcited and defensive manner.

TheElementsSong · 09/10/2016 11:10

Shock
smallfox2002 · 09/10/2016 11:11

There is nothing like having your suspicions confirmed.

UncontrolledImmigrant · 09/10/2016 11:12

why does anyone have to be patriotic?

how does a lack of patriotism invalidate a person's points?

Smirnoffka · 09/10/2016 11:13

Just as you do not slag off your husband, parents, kids you do not rubbish your country of birth, regardless of whether it needs improvement. Of course it does, but not by attack. If you think GB is undemocratic, then I suggest you do some travelling. There are plenty of countries I have been to with my husband that are not shy in showing their in-your-face racism and disrespect for "rights". Their laws remain mostly on paper, never invoked.

UncontrolledImmigrant · 09/10/2016 11:14

Was there a loyalty oath component to membership in mumsnet? I joined some time ago so maybe my memory is hazy

Inkanta · 09/10/2016 11:15

TheElementsSong.

Can I ask you something? Do you post a lot on these Referendum threads? If so, do you ever feel like you are getting anywhere?

smallfox2002 · 09/10/2016 11:15

What a joke you are.

GreenandWhite · 09/10/2016 11:15

"There is nothing like having your suspicions confirmed."
yep

UncontrolledImmigrant · 09/10/2016 11:16

Oh, ok. There are worse countries, thus the uk may not be criticised

that is an interesting argument, and a familiar one
