to be impressed with Theresa May?

I'm a traditional Labour voter who feels alienated by the party and Corbyn.

Theresa May really seems like a breath of fresh air in listening to peoples concerns and understanding what matters to ordinary voters.

I know words are easy to say and the proof will be in the action she takes in the years to come but I have a good feeling about her.

And Farage is back (or soon to be bakc?) at the UKIP helm.

PigletWasPoohsFriend · 05/10/2016 16:49

She lacks the bit of softness of Thatcher, maybe because she hasn't had kids and can't identify with mums.

What an absolutely misogynistic, disgraceful thing to say!

MaudGonneMad · 05/10/2016 16:50

Tbfor, this was in response to a specific company, which had bought multiple unfounded claims and has now had its legal aid taken away.

That's even worse. Because of one bad company they now remove human rights oversight from all of our armed forces? Looking for an excuse obviously.

Mummyyummy2012 · 05/10/2016 16:50

SNP/ Lib dem/ labour/ green/ plaid pact- field one candidate in each constituency to gain the most votes. Caroline Lucas, my local mp, supports this. I can't see a way forward unless politics dramatically changes- I feel utter despair at the state of this country at the moment.

corythatwas · 05/10/2016 16:52

"But UK pays second only to the US in aid? So it balances out."

If you look at foreign aid in relation to size of gross national income, the top contributors are actually Sweden, Norway, Luxemburg, Denmark and the Netherlands.

The UK contributes roughly half as much of its gross national income as Sweden does.

The UK is number 6 on the list and the US is number 20. 15 European countries contribute a greater proportion of their income than the US.

If you count non-DAC members as well, that brings the UK down to no 7 and the US to no 21. The EU average contribution is nearly 3 times that of the US. (source OECD).

I must say - although of course its notable that she is our second female PM, which is brilliant and a long time coming, aside from that - I really dont look at her and compare her to Thatcher, I look at her on her own merits.

I dont understand comparing her to Thatcher based on her sex?

I think we have been very lucky really, and scrapped through by the skin of our teeth. It could be much much worse.

She has so many skills we need as a country right now.

PigletWasPoohsFriend · 05/10/2016 16:54

SNP/ Lib dem/ labour/ green/ plaid pact- field one candidate in each constituency to gain the most votes.

There are way too many policy differences to make it work.

The discussions I have seen where Lucas has talked about it alongside Labour MPs, they have been very very anti.

gillybeanz · 05/10/2016 16:56

Why is it misogynistic to say what you see. I can't help what she's like.
I find it worrying tbh and scared for our future.
I don't see any redeeming characteristics at all, misogynistic or not.
I'm not sure I'd believe a man would be emphatic to parents dilemmas if he didn't have kids either.

NobleKnickerNibbler · 05/10/2016 16:57

It could be much much worse.

Funny, I don't think it could be much worse than it currently is.

SNschoolquery · 05/10/2016 16:58

I wasn't a fan to start with but increasingly I think she's great.

Love a no-nonsense woman. Think she's been very impressive.

PigletWasPoohsFriend · 05/10/2016 16:58

That's even worse. Because of one bad company they now remove human rights oversight from all of our armed forces?

We aren't talking about a few claims here.

My understanding is genuine cases will still be looked at. Let's wait for the details.

Looking for an excuse obviously.

How about stop being sarcastic and accept that other people have a right to a different view to you.

Mummyyummy2012 · 05/10/2016 16:59

It's the darkest political time I have seen in my lifetime tbh

CousinCharlotte · 05/10/2016 16:59

Lady that is shocking, but sadly I'm not surprised Sad

Hillingdon · 05/10/2016 17:01

As a long term Tory voter I would welcome a robust opposition but really - how anyone can think Labour have a hope in hell. If a General Election is called the Tories will win by a mile.

The view that if all the other parties get together it might make a difference are living with their head in the clouds! Lots of people claim they vote Green or Libs on Mumsnet. Yet the country shows a completely different outcome. I wonder if there are lots of people claiming to have left wing views but actually when it suits them they do what is best for THEM!

PigletWasPoohsFriend · 05/10/2016 17:01

gilly parents aren't a homogeneous group you know! In your view you shouldn't be PM unless you have children. Hmm

The world doesn't revolve around parents either. There are many other people in the country.

Realhousewivesofshit · 05/10/2016 17:02

The only thing that's made me laugh this week is the UKIP debarcle and where will their votes go? Not to labour!

mathsmum314 · 05/10/2016 17:08

She's a Tory twat who has no mandate for Brexit

Lol, what ignorance. How about a 17.4 million mandate.

Seize the day!

gillybeanz · 05/10/2016 17:13

Piglet

Along with looking at other cohorts I thought it was a reasonable assumption that people would look to the PM to represent their circumstances, along with all the others.

She's a Tory twat who has no mandate for Brexit - and yet the polls show pretty much every month she op would wipe the floor with corbyn so who's the twat the tories were elected when we were part of the EU. Now the country has voted out this changes everything including the constitution and thus there should be a general election. I loathe her as much as I loathed Thatcher.

Tiivola · 05/10/2016 17:15

One of the reasons I voted to leave is because of the rise of the far right in Europe...who wants to be aligned to that?

Err... we are aligned with it, now. Here is Marine Le Pen, leader of the Front Nationale in France, praising Theresa May's speech:

ItsJustNotRight · 05/10/2016 17:16

Lacking the softness of Thatcher? We should all be very scared indeed.

cardibach · 05/10/2016 17:19

Corbyn doesn't look very AWOL to me: response to May's speech

Mummyyummy2012 · 05/10/2016 17:23

Maths mum - do fuck off with your patronising comment!

Thefishewife · 05/10/2016 17:25

And what about those who are afraid that their children are going to get beaten up because they have the wrong colour skin or a foreign-sounding surname? Are they somehow not people? Or are their worries not real worries?

Not everyone who is concerned about immigration is a racist thug. One of the reasons I voted to leave is because of the rise of the far right in Europe...who wants to be aligned to that? Not to mention the fact that open borders with Europe means those outside of Europe who wish to come to the UK find it harder. I find the idea of open borders with Europe but not the rest of the world extremely discriminatory.
this I will never forgive the EU or fucking labour if the NF win in France and because not listening to people's concerns over immagration and the freedom of movement witch should be the freedom to work only has led to the rise in the extream right we see in many of the Nordic counties so many see as some sort of paradise rapeugee petrols I kid you not and attacks on migrant centres in Germany and far right govements in the eastern countries

I have no issue with people coming here to work but they should have the following

Health insurance
A job lined up
And accomdation with out the need for HB

i yes I think the same would apply for Brits abroad

BMW6 · 05/10/2016 17:29

gilly you are a total twat. A lot of parents are, so being a Parent is totally irrelevant to a persons capability to be PM.
