to be impressed with Theresa May?

I'm a traditional Labour voter who feels alienated by the party and Corbyn.

Theresa May really seems like a breath of fresh air in listening to peoples concerns and understanding what matters to ordinary voters.

I know words are easy to say and the proof will be in the action she takes in the years to come but I have a good feeling about her.

They're all awful and inneffective, especially the Liberals, but I wont vote with the Right.
I dont believe that Britain is becoming more right wing, I believe that when New Labour got in a lot of astute people realised they had to put on camoflage.
They now feel comfortable revealing their true colours.

formerbabe · 05/10/2016 16:12

I have no idea of the numbers, however, I believe we should take more Syrian refugees into this country. The open border policy with Europe resulted in our having a net migration figure last year of over 300,000. I'd rather have a managed immigration system, where numbers can be controlled and therefore we could prioritise refugees over economic EU migrants.

Realhousewivesofshit · 05/10/2016 16:12

well ffs then stop supporting a useless Corbyn stop moaning and chest beating and let's get the Labour Party electoral again

NobleKnickerNibbler · 05/10/2016 16:15

Well I'm afraid you're dreaming if you think the Tories are going to prioritise refugees over foreigners who bring ££££ with them.

ItsJustNotRight · 05/10/2016 16:15

I fear we are gently opening the doors and sleeping walking our way into fascism. Let's start keeping lists on the foreigners, let's make list of their businesses. Let's make the white ones wear badges so we don't mistake them for English, let's do away with the human rights Act, we are stepping into dangerous water and plenty of people are shouting carry on.

Realhousewivesofshit · 05/10/2016 16:16

berts exactly so history repeating itself. And we all know what a lovely decade the 80s was.

It makes me so bloody furious that people can't see it. I suppose they can and they don't care.

gillybeanz · 05/10/2016 16:16

Cory

I'm not saying I agree with their actions, far from it. I am just stating what i see and hear.
Unfortunately, many have got their right to free speech mixed up as you say, however, that's not to say that people who have been silenced for too long, in the name of political correctness aren't going to want to have a say.

When I see TM I see a hardcore Thatcher, she looks like Skeletor.
She lacks the bit of softness of Thatcher, maybe because she hasn't had kids and can't identify with mums.
I can only imagine the harm she is going to do to the people of this country and once again the mc will carry on voting for her until they realise they too have been fucked over, but it will be too late by then.
I see huge interest rates in a couple of years and many repos again Sad Only this time more will suffer as they have such large % mortgages now, than previously under Thatcher government.

formerbabe · 05/10/2016 16:19

I never said I thought they'll do that. I am saying that if our immigration figures weren't so high, the British public would be a lot more open minded to allowing refugees into the country.

Thatsmeinthecorner2016 · 05/10/2016 16:22

Yes but compared with the rest of Europe (which everyone is apparently so keen to be entwined with) I still believe we are one of the most tolerant countries. Look at how many Eastern Europeans reacted to Syrian refugees entering their country.

I have never condoned this attitude. I could understand, even though I will never agree with the thinking of the people who saw financial burden for them to increase, while earning 300 euro per month with prices comparable to the "West". And I'm not looking at the traditional stag parties excitement about the cheap beer either.
While this was a very simplified rhetorics, especially in countries which have traditionally been very isolated, behind the Iron Curtain thus having very little immigration, it worked well, with even otherwise people who are by no means right-wing believing in it.
Once again, I never condoned this rhetorics and I am aware of the many very rational arguments against it. But the very different situation in Eastern European (and Central European) countries as opposed to Britain in terms of lifestyle and the ratio of what people can afford for their salaries, even those on social welfare was one of the reasons why people in those countries were less forthcoming. Not all of them. There was a huge contingent of people from Hungary, Czech Republic and Slovakia helping out stranded refuges, contributing financially, delivering and handing out clothing, footwear, sleeping bags, basic hygiene products and toys. Sadly, they never got much publicity in the West.

'"If you believe you're a citizen of the world you're a citizen of nowhere"'

Christ.

Is that the sound of the drawbridge being dragged up?

mathsmum314 · 05/10/2016 16:26

Just watched her speech and it was VERY impressive. I like her passion and vision for the country, I believe she will deliver most of what she said over the next 9-14 years. Its a relief knowing we have someone strong and competent at the helm rescuing us from EU and the horrible ECJ. Its has been disgusting what those grubby lawyers were doing to our brave service .men.

NobleKnickerNibbler · 05/10/2016 16:29

Oh yes holding soldiers to account for their crimes is simply awful.

BeckerLleytonNever · 05/10/2016 16:31

Unable to go through all posts, sorry, so if this has been raised ...

did she mantion any help for the disabled/carers and taking the bedroom tax off disabled people and NOT forcing the extremely disabled to be fit enough to work?

Humidseptember · 05/10/2016 16:36

This is what so many people want former. We want to get more refugees in.

I also think she is the best thing that has happened to the UK for a very long time. Cometh the hour cometh the woman, or something like that Grin.

In this time of great instability all over and for lots of different reasons, thank goodness she has stepped out of the shadows to guide us through with a sensible head on her shoulders.

PigletWasPoohsFriend · 05/10/2016 16:36

Oh yes holding soldiers to account for their crimes is simply awful.

Tbfor, this was in response to a specific company, which had bought multiple unfounded claims and has now had its legal aid taken away.

I don't think legitimate cases will be ignored.

Mummyyummy2012 · 05/10/2016 16:38

She's a Tory twat who has no mandate for Brexit - the tories were elected when we were part of the EU. Now the country has voted out this changes everything including the constitution and thus there should be a general election. I loathe her as much as I loathed Thatcher.

corythatwas · 05/10/2016 16:38

Adding to what Thatsme said about the Eastern countries, the countries of northern Europe (including Germany) took in far more refugees in relation to their size. Even France, which gets so much stick in these discussions has been more generous than the UK.

Humidseptember · 05/10/2016 16:39

thus there should be a general election

And who do you think would win?
What credible parties could put themselves forward as serious contenders?

I am sure the Tories feel very confident they could win.

PigletWasPoohsFriend · 05/10/2016 16:39

thus there should be a general election.

Where at the moment would mean a Tory landslide.

Humidseptember · 05/10/2016 16:41

took in far more refugees in relation to their size

But UK pays second only to the US in aid? So it balances out. And there isnt a mad rush to get to the eastern block countries is there?

Realhousewivesofshit · 05/10/2016 16:42

gillie

You are judging her on her looks and her childlessness? Bit nasty that

Mummyyummy2012 · 05/10/2016 16:43

Yea, agree there might be a Tory landslide but it might also rally the other parties to get their fingers out of their arses and do something. Like create a progressive alliance with all other left wing parties and take on the tories. They all need a kick up the backside.

Realhousewivesofshit · 05/10/2016 16:46

piglet

It's a waste of breath.

It's clear here that some posters just like Corbyn supporters just prefer opposition to actually taking on the tories at a general election.

They are eternal students, maybe they are students or middle class Corbyn supporters who like to spout momentum bollocks as it makes them feel right on.

Lots of labour voters have been shafted here and god help the ordinary people who really need a strong Labour Party to represent them.

PigletWasPoohsFriend · 05/10/2016 16:46

Yea, agree there might be a Tory landslide but it might also rally the other parties to get their fingers out of their arses and do something

Like who exactly?

Labour is imploding. Corbyn, the man who wanted to lead the official opposition, has been on holiday this week whilst all this has been going on. He did tweet.... about a film festival.

If there is a hint of the referendum not going ahead also watch the UKIP vote go through the roof.

gillybeanz · 05/10/2016 16:48

The skeletor reference was a joke, but she does look like him.
Her childlessness was not a judgement but I think she shows little empathy towards mums and believe the reason is because she hasn't had kids, that's an observation and how I see her.
I've never been the PM I wouldn't know anything about the problems they have, let alone be able to show empathy.
I find her harsh with little empathy towards anybody other than the elite.
