To expect DH to shower more than twice a month

IsItJustFuck1ngMe · 03/10/2016 22:31

As the title goes really. DH has become very shower averse now there is a slight nip in the air, and has confessed to a shower hiatus extending to 12 days Confused. Has dispensed with regular full showers in favour of a 'whores wash' in the sink.

Maintains he is clean, I disagree and thinking of picking him up and putting him in the shower. DAILY. Regardless of screams and tantrums.

I'm not BU am I? Hmm. Unless in fact is a gremlins and melts???

OP posts:

Good luck wrestling him into the shower op Hmm

Lightsoffplease · 04/10/2016 00:17

Your skin has millions of micro-organisms living on it. Over washing not only reduces bad bacteria, fungi, etc, it also eliminates the good and can affect your immune system.

Google it

Lightsoffplease · 04/10/2016 00:18

Still, we agree on one thing East, the OP's lack of personal hygiene is revolting

PickAChew · 04/10/2016 00:18

More than once a week I'd not overwashing.

PickAChew · 04/10/2016 00:18

Is Hmm

chinlo · 04/10/2016 00:20

When I saw "To expect DH to shower more than twice..." in the trending box, I thought it was going to say "...twice a week", and I was still clicking to share my disgust.

Twice a MONTH is sickening. I would find it difficult just to be around somebody with such a low level of personal hygiene. And I 1000% would never be physically intimate with them.

EastMidsMummy · 04/10/2016 00:20

I will still take my chances on my daily shower, but thanks for the tip. Every day's a school day!

Good luck with the hose down, OP.

Lightsoffplease · 04/10/2016 00:20

Once a day is perfectly adequate.

chinlo · 04/10/2016 00:25

Once a day is adequate for most people. But calling twice a day unhealthy is plainly ridiculous. I live in a hot country and most people here (including me) shower twice on most days, and have done for their whole lives. Safe to say, we're all alive and well, and we have never shed our skins.

accendo · 04/10/2016 00:28

He must have a ferocious case of swamp arse by now, the bed sheets must be grim.

BeastofCraggyIsland · 04/10/2016 00:33

That's utterly rank; even twice a week would be grim but twice a month is absolutely disgusting.

I'm also a twice a day shower-er because I exercise every day, and as I also perform surgery pretty much every day, hygiene is uber-important. Never have dry skin, even though I forget to moisturise anywhere other than my face about 90% of the time.

bloodyteenagers · 04/10/2016 00:42

Eww didn't even think about some of the jobs he could have.
Who would want to be seen by a smelly gp, surgeon or dentist?
Or what if he works in a fishmongers? 12 days of fish.. or a mechanic, my ex used to come home a mess after a day the thought of 12 days or that, shudder.

Just the thought makes me want to hurl. I wouldn't sleep in the same bed and there would certainly be no sex. Bleah!

DH does a lot of back country camping and will come home a bit 'rank' as all they can do is a 'GI Shower' (AKA 'Pits and Bits') but the first thing he does is toss his clothes in the washer and have a hot shower.

A hot shower or bath is one of the best parts of Winter. Steamy water, lovely soap or body wash, nice fluffy warm towels. Then a warm dressing gown or PJs. Pure bliss.

KoalaDownUnder · 04/10/2016 01:42

Over washing not only reduces bad bacteria, fungi, etc, it also eliminates the good and can affect your immune system.

I shower twice every day, and I have the strongest immune system of anyone I know. Haven't even had a common cold for years, never been in hospital in my life.

So I'm sorry, but this is just rubbish. As long as you're not using harsh soaps or boiling hot water, there's no such thing as 'over showering'.

Do you think swimmers have a compromised immune system because they're constantly washing the 'good bacteria' off their skin's surface? Hmm

KoalaDownUnder · 04/10/2016 01:46

Once a day is perfectly adequate.

What if you go to the gym before work, then do a 12-hour shift cleanup up bodily fluids, then catch a packed tube home in the heat?

Which shower should that person skip? The one after the gym session, or the after-work one?

Hate know-all blanket pronouncements like this.

Threebedsemii · 04/10/2016 02:26

"Over washing not only reduces bad bacteria, fungi, etc, it also eliminates the good and can affect your immune system."

^^ this is clearly crap

Werksallhourz · 04/10/2016 02:44

Boils. That's what he'll end up with. Painful, fierce boils that hurt like hell and rise up to puss filled heads, only to partially erupt and get bigger and bigger.

We don't see them much anymore because people wash a lot more than they used to, so we've forgotten what they are like. But you don't want to mess with boils. They are horrible.

KoalaDownUnder · 04/10/2016 03:08

How the fuck is it even quicker to do a 'whore's wash'? Confused In these modern times of automatic hot water?

DustyOfSkye · 04/10/2016 03:14

Quite koala. Honestly, this thread is making me want to march over to OP's house with a flannel and soap and scrub the MN hell out of her DH.

SwearySwearyQuiteContrary · 04/10/2016 03:31

Do you allow him to share your bed? I couldn't.

SlottedSpoon · 04/10/2016 04:40

Unless he was washing himself down from head to toe at least every other day I categorically COULD NOT be with this man. Just grim. I really don't understand why some people are so weirdly reluctant to shower. Not being able to shower or bathe for more than a day or two is a horrible feeling - why on earth would you choose to be like that? ConfusedHmm

And I'll admit I find people who'd rather strip wash than have a bath or a shower a bit weird. But so long as they are washing, everywhere, regularly, then it's fine.

But this bloke sounds like a skank. To not wash your feet for 12 days - uuuurgh.

We went to view a house the other week and all was well until we walked into the adult son's bedroom and it STANK of stale BO. The smell just hit us as soon as the door was opened and he wasn't even home.

Christ knows how anyone can live with someone like that.

TheDowagerCuntess · 04/10/2016 04:57

For God's sake IsItJustFuck1ngMe's DH - just get in the damn shower. Confused

Anything other than a daily shower/bath is grim.

I can understand that some people might skip a day for whatever reason (I wouldn't). But a week? 12 days???!!!

That's not normal. Not normal at all.

MetalMidget · 04/10/2016 05:23

Boils. That's what he'll end up with. Painful, fierce boils that hurt like hell and rise up to puss filled heads, only to partially erupt and get bigger and bigger.

But on the plus side, OP may have some cracking future contributions to Sporner's Corner!

My best mate had an ex who was shower averse (he once wore the same pair of unwashed leather trousers for three weeks too...), I banned him from my car. He smelled awful.

PoldarksBreeches · 04/10/2016 05:31

Chest sweat smells! After a hot summer night when my pyjamas have got sweaty I can smell my chest, it's a particular musty smell that is completely different to armpits.
I once made the error of motorboating a friend with big breasts (we were young and pissed) and got a face full of rank sweaty smell. I know she used to wash but clearly sweated in between Envy
