To think I have discovered an amazing new 'thing'?

Or is it already known and mainstream? I do hope it's not and I can copyright it and make my fortune.

Conditioner BEFORE Shampoo!

If done the traditional way my hair goes lank and greasy within 12 hours. Do it backwards and it's all soft and swishy and non-lardy for at least a whole day.

I am truly a genius.

HTD have you tried banana puree? It's wonderful. Add honey and a tablespoon of extra virgin olive oil for finer hair or coconut oil for thicker hair and you have the most awesome softening hair mask.

e1y1 · 03/10/2016 18:42

No it's a thing.

Treseme (sp?) launched the 'reverse' system about a year ago.

Fresta · 03/10/2016 19:17

You lot are all so gullible! Conditioner just coats your hair with oil or silicone to make it soft and shiny, less flyable, and easier to comb. Washing the conditioner off is equal to not using any! Save the time and money and just shampoo!

amusedbush · 03/10/2016 19:20

I tried it a couple of times and it's awful! I could barely get a brush through it wet and it was really dry and brittle when I styled it.

RockyBird · 03/10/2016 19:36

I used to do conditioning before shampoo.

I've discovered something even better......

Drumroll

Shampoo and conditioner at the same time.

I discovered this by accident when both products required 5 mins leave in time but I only had 5 mins altogether for my shower. From that day on I was getting positive comments about my hair from friends.

bummyknocker · 03/10/2016 19:39

Coconut oil on the ends before washing does the trick for me.

Sugarlightly · 03/10/2016 19:47

shampoo will wash out the conditioner, water will just rinse the excess from the hair.

Shampoo and conditioner should be used on different areas of the hair (shampoo on scalp, conditioner on ends) anyway...

Woody67 · 03/10/2016 19:47

Unlucky83, I love your sons comment about looking 20 but only from behind the cheeky bugger. I still occasionally get white van man honk at me, but only from behind, for the same reason!

Memoires · 03/10/2016 19:53

A hairdresser I had in my youth told me to wash my once a month with washing up liquid.

paulapantsdown · 03/10/2016 19:54

Cor Rocky that's a good idea!

I tried the conditioner first this morning and my hair looks really shiny and bouncy today.

Secretmetalfan · 03/10/2016 19:55

The other thing to remember is just condition the hair not the roots and scalp as this makes it go greasy. You shouldn't condition like you wash your hair

Memoires · 03/10/2016 19:56

Another hairdresser I had more recently, said only ever put conditioner on the ends, and then only if they were splitting - arrange a cut at that point!

Memoires · 03/10/2016 19:58

These days I do the same as bummyknocker. DD tells me cocnut oil is the best for shaving legs. It's so much cheaper than conditioner too!

LynetteScavo · 03/10/2016 20:03

It's nonsense.

But I don't put conditioner in my scalp, only the ends.

There's no point in putting conditioner on your hair then washing it off. Just don't put it on.

scrumptiouscrumpets · 03/10/2016 20:13

The best thing I've ever tried is to rinse my hair with a cup of vinegar diluted in a jug of water after washing it. The smell just disappears as the hair dries. Cheap, super quick and incredibly effective.

McSmoke · 03/10/2016 20:18

It's a vicious cycle. Shampoos are harsh as they need to remove the build up due to the silicones in conditioners. Conditioners have silicones to add shine to hair which is dull abd straw-like because of the harsh silicones.

I have discovered conditioner washing. You start off by washing with fairy liquid (once to remove any residue), then from then on only use silicone free conditioner. Each subsequent 'wash' using conditioner instead of shampoo (this is rinsed) then the same conditioner to condition, leaving some in the ends.

The conditioner doesn't build up as it doesn't contain silicones. Cheap suitable conditioners are Treseme Undone, Superdrug Extracts, Tesco pro vitamin (75p).

embo1 · 03/10/2016 20:33

Depends. What if it's greasy when you get in? Conditioner on top if greasy hair? Need to shampoo away the grease, then add a little bit of conditioner so its not too dry...

CoteDAzur · 03/10/2016 20:42

LOL @ "society solidly in the grip of cosmetics industry" Grin

I guess conditioner might be unnecessary if you have thin, fine, less hair. Mine is a thick, very long, curly mane that naturally forms locks as it dries. I only ever comb my hair in the shower, with conditioner. Without it, my hair becomes one huge knot. - an eagle's nest.

Cosmetics industry has fuck all to do with it. If conditioners didn't exist, I would have to rub olive oil or something into my hair to comb it. Or I'd cut it, I suppose.

OP - Apply conditioner on no more than the lower half of your hair. It should not even touch your scalp.

LumpySpacedPrincess · 03/10/2016 20:43

I use a non foaming shampoo, it's lovely and sort of a shampoo and conditioner all in one. As for washing off the conditioner, would there not be a certain amount of product absorbed and only the excess is washed off?

Goingtobeawesome · 03/10/2016 20:54

It's not a new idea and for me it wasn't great.

JeSuisUnChocoholic · 03/10/2016 21:12

You can't "copyright" anything. Anything which is your original idea is automatically copyrighted until 70 years after your death, unless you give others permission to use it.

CoteDAzur · 03/10/2016 21:25

OP means patenting, not copyrighting.

Copyrights apply to creative work that can be reproduced & sold: Paintings, photos, books, etc.

falange · 03/10/2016 21:27

Does this work if you have bleached hair?

Pollaidh · 03/10/2016 21:32

With tight, dry, curls I wouldn't even get a wide toothed comb or fingers through my hair without conditioner. My hair, as it's being washed, becomes one giant knot, I don't think I could even go to work if I didn't have conditioner.

user1475440127 · 03/10/2016 21:58

I used to use Soft and Free for my coarse curly hair but hated the smell.
Fancy shampoos require a matched conditioner, it's a clever marketing tactic.
Unless your hair is very long and you only wash it once a week I would try using leave in conditioner, putty or any other gunk to keep you barnet in shape.
Most of us shower or bathe daily. Expensive products are not always the best option.
I remember having split ends in my teens , they are a thing of the past now. Shampoos are so much gentler now. We buy ours for 99p a litre Home bargains.
