To think I have discovered an amazing new 'thing'?

Or is it already known and mainstream? I do hope it's not and I can copyright it and make my fortune.

Conditioner BEFORE Shampoo!

If done the traditional way my hair goes lank and greasy within 12 hours. Do it backwards and it's all soft and swishy and non-lardy for at least a whole day.

I am truly a genius.

I might try this. My, oily at the top, dry at the tips, hair needs conditioner to be brushed. I do worry about the "more volume" thing... It already resembles Hermione's hair!

Stevefromstevenage · 02/10/2016 20:27

I use the teeniest bit of conditioner at the ends of my hair after shampoo. Bouncy hair but not greasy and only takes seconds to walk out.

Stevefromstevenage · 02/10/2016 20:27

Wash out.

OlennasWimple · 02/10/2016 20:28

I put conditioner on the long bit of my hair then shampoo my head. Works for me!

SpuriouserAndSpuriouser · 02/10/2016 20:29

Wait, are people applying conditioner to the whole of their head? Is that what you are meant to do with it? Have I been doing it wrong my whole life?

HeCantBeSerious · 02/10/2016 20:29

Most conditioners aren't oil, they're silicone based.

Eastpoint · 02/10/2016 20:34

I tried the Kerastase version & it just makes my hair feel dirty & clogged up. I've gone back to the 'normal' way round.

Rosieposy4 · 02/10/2016 20:34

Nothing to do with being in the grip of the cosmetics industry, i would happily take a big bet on spending far far less than nearly every other women on cosmetics/hair products etc. Everything to do with having hair like dry straw, and needing to wash it so i don't smell like horse pee at work ( i love the smell of horse pee btw, but am aware than not everyone shares the love)

Foxysoxy01 · 02/10/2016 20:35

Would this work for really dry ends?

My scalp gets greasy so have to wash every other day (every day in summer) but the ends of my hair are horribly dry and really bushy without loads of conditioner.

ImSoVeryTired · 02/10/2016 20:36

I just used to condition the middle to ends of my hair. I wouldn't bother doing it in reverse. That way you won't make oily roots feel greasy but the dry ends get conditioned. Simple.

Bodicea · 02/10/2016 20:38

I get greasy roots and have to wash every day if I wear down but my hair is fine so gets knotty. My general rule is conditioner second on the lower half if wearing it straight. Reverse wash it if blow drying it more curly/ volumised. But I give it a really good brush beforehand and try not to rough it up too much in the shower.

Gwenhwyfar · 02/10/2016 20:41

"
Makes it lovely and soft and slippery, and of course greasy."

It's the roots that get greasy. You only apply conditioner to the ends, not the roots.

SemiNormal · 02/10/2016 20:43

Oh dear, this is how I've always done it - I thought I was doing it the right way around. Grin

AriettaLovesXitiePie · 02/10/2016 20:43

Unfortunately TreSemme have beaten you to it... I'm not a fan, I could barely get a brush through my hair afterwards and it was all frizzy.
If it works for you though, that's what matters! Smile

AriettaLovesXitiePie · 02/10/2016 20:45

TyrionLannisterForKing My hair is exactly the same. At least it was, until I found my literal hair saviour: Extraordinary Clay shampoo & conditioner by L'Oreal. It's specially made for oily roots and dry ends and my hair is so lovely after using it!!

SemiNormal · 02/10/2016 20:45

Would this work for really dry ends? I use keratase elixer oil on the ends of my hair. I comb it through from about mid way down then plait it and go to bed, wash it out the next morning. I've only started doing it a couple of months ago, I do it once a week. It is a bit expensive but I only use a small amount each time and there are probably similar cheaper versions around that would work just as well. My hair is super silky now.

TemporarilyLost · 02/10/2016 20:46

Shock giving this a try tomorrow. Although it takes me ages to brush through my hair after washing it I usually need leave in conditioner too.

user1471531273 · 02/10/2016 20:46

Conditioner is only supposed to be applied to the ends of your hair. I can't remember who said they were doing it wrong....you are doing it the right way.

Shampoo the scalp, conditioner the ends.

Too much brushing and head touching will stimulate the scalp the release natural oils, making it more greasy....

Believeitornot · 02/10/2016 20:49

A lot of shampoos and conditioners have silicone in them which gradually build up in your hair over time. You then get horrible brittle hair.

Best thing is to avoid silicone altogether. Ive done this with my dds hair and her hair is beautifully soft.

Foxysoxy01 · 02/10/2016 20:50

SemiNormal

Thank you I will give that a try! I'm up for anything with my straw like hair.

dalmatianmad · 02/10/2016 20:50

I've been doing this reverse thing for a while and it's made a massive difference!

barefootinkitchen · 02/10/2016 20:51

If my hair went oily after only one day I don't think I would put conditioner on. Maybe just wash and then add product if needed.

MOIST · 02/10/2016 20:52

And there was me thinking I was all innovative and inventive.

I do have soft shiny hair though.

OP posts:
abbsismyhero · 02/10/2016 20:52

no conditioner at all little bit of hair oil to tame my fluffys down

stiffstink · 02/10/2016 20:52

I have long thick hair so I put conditioner on from the mid lengths, brush with a tangle teezer and then shampoo the conditioner out. I don't agitate the roots so I don't have to worry about it getting tangled again.

I've had it coloured recently so I'm going to start putting some leave in conditioner onto it and I don't like the heaviness of regular conditioner anyway.
