To think I have discovered an amazing new 'thing'?

Or is it already known and mainstream? I do hope it's not and I can copyright it and make my fortune.

Conditioner BEFORE Shampoo!

If done the traditional way my hair goes lank and greasy within 12 hours. Do it backwards and it's all soft and swishy and non-lardy for at least a whole day.

I am truly a genius.

I never use conditioner on my hair . I used to until a hairdresser told me it is a humectant and it was the reason my hair was so afro like ( I'm Caucasian with strong curly hair) Now I shampoo and just rub in cheapo putty or gel and it separates the curls.
Modern shampoos are nothing like the harsh formulas of yesteryear.

MaddyHatter · 02/10/2016 22:10

mum does it this way around and says she's found it better.

i have quite greasy hair so i don't use conditioner.. i'm more the 'dry shampoo on day 2' kind of person.

Oldraver · 02/10/2016 22:41

I'm going to try it as my hair feels a little ....yuk.

I always give my hair a good brush just before I was it and that helps with lugs etc...for the person that mentioned this

I also use conditioner on my legs before shaving

Sara107 · 02/10/2016 22:44

I diligently conditioned for over 20 years but recently ditched it. And have not noticed any decrease in hair condition. Saves lots of extra time and water in the shower!

gttob · 02/10/2016 22:58

Been doing it this way for years, hair is lovely

Are you a Glosser? If not then join FB group mrsgloss&thegoss , they talk about it a lot in there and can recommend best products to use

I started doing reverse washing a few months ago and it works on my very greasy hair. Shampoo only and my hair is greasy by the next day, shampoo then conditioner and i can get two days out of it but reversing means I can have 3 clean-feeling days. No idea how it works but for me it definitely does the trick.

imnotreally · 02/10/2016 23:12

It works for me. I've been doing it for a while. It washed the excess weight out of the hair but the hair still gets nourished.

CoYoAddict · 03/10/2016 17:40

I could never not use conditioner. On the odd occasion when I've run out and had no choice my hair feels AWFUL afterwards, like a brillo pad.

I do know people who have dispensed with shampoo altogether and just use conditioner though.

awesomeness · 03/10/2016 17:46

as a hairdresser i've been doing it and recommending it for about 10/12 years

think tresseme do a set now that they recommend conditioner first then shampoo

Woody67 · 03/10/2016 17:47

M00nunit mine is the same, I bought s tangleteaser brush and it is amazing!

FeliciaJollygoodfellow · 03/10/2016 17:52

I've got super dry curly hair and would never do this, not unless I was going for the dragged through a hedge backwards look. I use shampoo to wash out product and conditioner to try and add some moisture, I also use it to style.

Kudos on your use of the word 'bonce' OP. I thought I was the only one.

LadyConstanceDeCoverlet · 03/10/2016 17:52

I never used to use conditioner because my hair was naturally quite greasy anyway. But with advancing years Sad I find I have to, otherwise it is ridiculously frizzy. I can't work out the point of putting conditioner in first only to wash it out again, I must confess.

unlucky83 · 03/10/2016 17:56

I'm with icebeing -I think we are being conned!
I can't use lots of shampoos and conditioners because I am sensitive to Methylisothiazolinone (MIT) en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Methylisothiazolinone.
When I discovered I was I started using Johnson's baby shampoo but after a few washes (no conditioner) my roots were greasy -so one day out of desperation I used ecover washing up liquid -and it was fine for a couple of washes then my hair went dry and frizzy.
So I bought a solid shampoo soap bar (from funky soap) -which was great when I got used to it but also left a residue/greasy feel after a few washes. I actually think some of the 'problem' hair was caused by washing all the silicones and other gunk out of my hair..
Now I wash my hair 2-3 times a week. Mainly in ecover washing up liquid and every 3rd or 4th wash in shampoo bar. No conditioner.
And it is fantastic - I'm nearly 50 and my hair looks and feels better than it has for years and years (DD2 (9) said from the back I look 20 -then I turn round and it is a shock Grin )

GrandMarmoset · 03/10/2016 17:57

Even better if you put the conditioner in the night before and wash in the morning.

awesomeness · 03/10/2016 18:12

clients i say to try it, normally have a tendency to have greasy hair (usually caused by too much conditioner or not rinsing correctly)

but someone with naturally dry hair i wouldn't recommend

Jessikita · 03/10/2016 18:17

I have fuzzy hair so without conditioner my hair is unmanageable! If it still feels lank after using the traditional way, try using less and rinsing it out for about 3 mins longer than you think.

mangocoveredlamb · 03/10/2016 18:20

I read about it on here about 2 years ago, total revelation.
I can't understand why the conditioner first rather than none at all works, but it does!!

LiviaDrusillaAugusta · 03/10/2016 18:21

I used to use washing up liquid

TheDowagerCuntess · 03/10/2016 18:21

I have dry hair and tried this. It made my already big hair huge.

I've gone back to the regular way around.

LiviaDrusillaAugusta · 03/10/2016 18:22

Then I found I could buy basics shampoo cheaper

WetPaint4 · 03/10/2016 18:24

I need conditioner for the slip. My mom has stopped using shampoo, now she just washes with conditioner. Her hair is now in much better condition. You have to try different things I guess.

WhoKnowsWhereTheTimeG0es · 03/10/2016 18:27

I guess it depends on your hair. Mine is neither greasy or dry, I wash and condition it twice a week, no products, no heat styling. This turned it into straw.

HTD2013 · 03/10/2016 18:29

It's amazing.... Have been doing this a few years and my hair can go a week without needing a wash. And if I need a pick up before 6/7 days.... Apple purée.... Wet hair, squish an apple purée pouch in and comb through (finger or comb) and wash out. Soooooo good.
