maybe it is just me, maybe i am being a bit weird, but i have noticed in the past decade or so it has become very popular for women to make mildly sexist remarks about men eg. how useless they are etc. i see a lot of contempt IRL and also on TV etc from women towards their husbands, boyfriends etc. i wonder how much of it is my imagination or is this a real trend? it just seems that the way some women speak of or to their partners wouldn't be tolerated nearly so much if it were the other way round?

It's indeed sexism, but at the heart of it, it's actually sexism against women.

Why can't women be sexist? There are still loads of sexist men around, why do women have to be the ones to modify their behaviour?

No sorry op what I see and hear are real stories from women about the men in their lives that are abusive, useless etc and how a lot of the time this is blamed on women. It's rare to hear "all men are bastards"
What I do hear a lot of is women are gold diggers, are the weaker sex that they need a man.

However in the patriarchal society we live in, women are almost at a disadvantage. Relative to their social class (very relevant in the UK) and so on.

It is established fact that white working class boys are less likely to do well at school. In fact they perform least well. I'm unsure how that can be rectified.

When men are portrayed as useless oafs, it's almost always in the domain of housework, childcare, wife work. You know, the trivial, meaningless stuff.

Fortunately, nobody questions men's ability to rule the world.

i do agree that women have it far worse when it comes to sexism. and it is much deeper entrenched. i am a survivor of domestic abuse, sexual abuse, child abuse etc. and i know many women have had it far worse than me in parts of the world. but just because we have it worse doesn't mean men don't get any sexism. an example: 15 year old boy is preyed on by a female teacher. responses range from other boys saying "wow, you are lucky- an older women is interested in you"; the effects of the abuse towards the boy are treated like they cannot be as serious as it would be if a girl was the victim of a male teacher. and rather than saying "the teacher is a filthy perv", i hear and read responses such as "poor woman must have been unwell or had a bad childhood." boils my pee to hear such rubbish

i hear women putting down their husbands and saying things like "i could slap the bastard" Now i'm not for one moment suggesting these women really are husband beaters but i have noticed if a man flippantly makes a comment like that about his girlfriend or wife eg. "i should slap the dozy mare" people act as if that man were a potential abuser. i know because i have sometimes reacted this way myself. i appreciate it is more likely that a man would abuse a woman physically but it doesn't mean that every man who says things like that is one. they may be joking too. i agree it isn't a subject that should ever be joked about, really, i just think there is a double standard at work?

Wow, what a perfect example of what the OP is talking about. Much like women, men aren't a homogeneous lump of people who are all the same. To say an entire sex 'doesn't care' is monumentally offensive. To say an entire sex is 'feigning uselessness' to get out of responsibility is an absolutely laughable generalisation.

and the kind of spiel when a woman ill treats her child "she must be under stress/a single mother/has an illness". we see abusive men as evil. i think that is a double standard.
