I dislike children.

What is wrong with me?

Never liked em. I don't find them cute, sweet, funny, interesting or entertaining. I have a few nieces/nephews and obviously love them but I don't enjoy the whole 'come watch little niece sing/dance 😍' and then enduring a painfully shit performance, 'Wow look at what little nephew has drawn' and it's a dreadful mess/ordinary drawing, and so on.

When kids do things like throw tantrums or make a scene in public and their parents do that 'ah isn't she adorable' look, I just don't get it.

When I'm sitting having a coffee and they come over to me/others to pester them and the parents leave them to it as if everyone must find their children as wonderful as they do, I don't get that either.

Babies I have no interest in either. I don't want to cuddle a small person or pull silly faces and coo over it.

I really enjoy people and I'm sure I'll have much more time and patience for my nieces and nephews when they grow up but I seem to be considered some sort of monster for not having an interest in children.

Maybe the name Mumsnet has become obsolete; a bit like Carphone Warehouse?

Manumission · 01/10/2016 23:48

"What's with the constant SCREAMING in supermarkets these days? "

I fear this might be me, Aldi aren't doing the long life pre cooked potato thingies any more.

Grin

Lorelei wins the thread

AIBU isn't the "children" topic. Look at the threads in AIBU. So few are about kids.

ThymeLord · 01/10/2016 23:53

I don't like children. They are messy, slobbery, needy, whiny, expensive, time consuming, repetitive, boring. If children were a separate species then few people would choose them as pets.

Manumission · 02/10/2016 00:17

Are you 12 Thyme?

You're doing that 'I'll be shocking for the sake of it' thing a minority of pre-teens enjoy so much Hmm

mathanxiety · 02/10/2016 00:30

Flowers to Kittens.

mathanxiety · 02/10/2016 00:33

It's not 'entitled' to feel ravenous after giving birth.

It's a massively strenuously activity and a woman might not have been on nil by mouth for a day or even more by the time the baby arrived.

Then they bring you...toast - when you have a baby to feed and recuperation to accomplish and no prospect of sleep for the rest of your stay in the hospital.

It's really bad nursing care to ignore the physical needs of patients.

mathanxiety · 02/10/2016 00:33

might have been on nil by mouth...

ollieplimsoles · 02/10/2016 00:36

It's a crap, negative thread that has actually made me shudder a bit.
One or two people here are creeps.

Exactly this.

And also:
Worth pointing out that foetuses are considered proto-human and it can't be wronng to murder them as a result.

... Thats nice to read for the women on here who have suffered miscarriages isn't it? 'proto-human'- fuck yourself.

MrsTerryPratchett · 02/10/2016 00:38

Not just nil, math. I was projectile vomiting so I was minus nil. Grin For three days. I would have eaten a lightly fried horse in batter.

Shiningexample · 02/10/2016 00:38

yes children can be trying and hard to cope with but it's not their fault they arrived here!
and if you dont have the temperament to deal with them then best make a life for yourself in which they dont feature too heavily

Thankfully some people feel able to cope and do their best for the little blighters otherwise the human race would soon cease to be

Shiningexample · 02/10/2016 00:40

also those who find children so objectionable, you too were once a bratty annoying child

BoopTheSnoot · 02/10/2016 00:41

I love my own children. I appreciate and respect that not everyone else does/will. I don't really like other kids; in fact, other people's kids usually get on my nerves Blush

SpareASquare · 02/10/2016 00:44

Before I read this whole thread, I would have agreed with the OP and said that, I too, am not a fan of children. Love my own bunch but not at all fond of other peoples

I realise now that that probably was unfair and am pretty sure its the parents causing the dislike. Cannot imagine enjoying the company of any of the children of the whiny entitled "children are just mini human beings" brigade. Like the parent who said she wouldn't stop her children approaching someone elses table in a cafe because people like to "talk" with her children. WTF? No, I'm not at a cafe to entertain your children who I can assure you, noone finds as charming and cute as you do. So, yeah, probably not the childrens fault at all that they've been given the impression that they are the most wondrous creatures ever and everyone would see it if they just gave it a chance

ThymeLord · 02/10/2016 00:48

Am I 12? On page 9 of a thread that I've been on since the start? Erm, no, I'm not 12. Do you feel better now?!

mathanxiety · 02/10/2016 00:49

YYY to the horse in batter, MrsTerryPratchett. And don't bring me a piddly small one either.

BoopTheSnoot · 02/10/2016 00:49

Also, for a group of folk who supposedly actively dislike all small children, you're doing a good job of acting like them right now. This is like a playground argument Grin

ThymeLord · 02/10/2016 00:50

Oh waaaait I see what you did there! You tried to make it so that my factual comments about children made me look like a weirdo. Gotcha! Clever Wink If only I'd not been here long enough to see straight through disingenuous bullshit like that. Gosh darn it!

LucyBabs · 02/10/2016 00:51

Hmm if I started a thread "I dislike elderly people" "I dislike black people" that would be OK?

ThymeLord · 02/10/2016 00:53

Well that wouldn't be the same now would it? Do try to think before you post.

MrsTerryPratchett · 02/10/2016 00:53

KittensWithWeapons · 02/10/2016 00:55

Thank you, mathanxiety.

ThymeLord · 02/10/2016 00:55

Oh fuck me I'm too tired I can't be arsed I'm out.

mathanxiety · 02/10/2016 00:56

Grin - cutlery not strictly necessary.

AmysTiara · 02/10/2016 00:56
