To have said out loud that the doll was hideous

My in laws went to visit an elderly distant relative and since then, they have been hinting that they have a really special item to pass onto my DD, like some sort of heirloom, but they didn't say what it was.
We went to visit them and as I entered the living room, there was what I can only describe as a terrifying girl doll sat on the sofa next to my father in law.
It had blue lips and ash/ blonde grey hair and looked like a corpse doll. I was horrified and said the first thing that came out of my mouth ' how hideous'.
Well, as you can guess, this was supposed to be the special ' heirloom gift. My MIL acted as though I had insulted one of her friends and said ' oh poor little girl, well, I think she's lovely'. My Dd was a bit perplexed and didn't seem to know whether to side with me or her Gran. Apparently it is an expensive American Doll. But the colours have faded over time giving it its deathly pallor. In my opinion absolutely horrific. We left it there.
DH thinks that I was a bit mean and blunt.

I actually have a morbid fear of porcelain dolls. I would have had to have left the room. Weird I know but they seriously make my flesh crawl. They always have even since being tiny so I can't even blame horror films.

liz70 · 27/09/2016 18:03

Look on the bright side, OP. It could be worse. It could be one of those reborn as an alien dolls.

liz70 · 27/09/2016 18:05

As I was saying…

Ilovenannyplum · 27/09/2016 18:06

Scary doll. No no no.
It'll definitely come alive and go for you in your sleep.

flanjabelle · 27/09/2016 18:09

No. Just no. My great aunt tried to give dd a scary as fuck doll. No. Fuck no. I would never have slept again.

CandyOcean · 27/09/2016 18:14

This one is currently plotting someone's demise...

DangerQuakeRhinoSnake · 27/09/2016 18:20

This is why I was into stuffed toys when I was a child and NOT dolls. Scary stuff!

KingJoffreysRestingCuntface · 27/09/2016 18:21

Has everyone heard about Robert the Doll?

That's a nice story. Save it for bedtime...

You just need to apologize, it was a shock and I would have done exactly the same. I have a friend who owns all those reborn dolls, she asked me what I thought, I told her they were absolutely horrible, they looked like dead babies. Porcelain dolls really freak me out. It's funny I don't like clowns either.

SaucyJack · 27/09/2016 18:37

OP hasn't been back in a while.

Shit. That was quick. Hope it was too painful.

RubbishMantra · 27/09/2016 18:39

MrsMarigold, I find it a tad disturbing. But don't mind me, as a small child I had a teddy bear's head, just the head, and if you pulled a string it sang a lullaby type song. I remember being v. sad and worried like mad that it didn't have a body, and was suffering, and begging my mother to make poor teddy head a body.

Girliefriendlikesflowers · 27/09/2016 18:42

This thread is going to give me nightmares!!!

JellyBelli · 27/09/2016 18:42

YWNU, I have a doll and clown phobia and would have reacted in the same way becuase I'm normal.

liz70 WTAF is that monstrosity? Shock

Lorelei76 · 27/09/2016 18:46

liz70, if the OP has been abducted by the alien doll I am totally blaming you!!

RubbishMantra · 27/09/2016 18:56

Just reminded me, first (and only) visit to an early 20s couple's home, they had shelves all around the room, with dolls on. Staring. The worst bit was when the he shoved one at me exclaiming, "This one's got real hair!" Shock

This was around the time when it was de rigueur for boy racers to have UV lights on the chassis of their cars. As a more economical alternative, he strung fairy lights underneath his car, and proudly told anyone who would listen that the police were always warning him about his fairy lights.

ShteakandShpuds · 27/09/2016 18:59

Aaargh! Definitely not unreasonable.
I can't bear those hideous dolls and if it had been me, I'd have probably screamed very loudly with shock when I saw it and possibly vomited so compared to me, you were downright restrained.

I now have to go and bleach my brain.

KingJoffreysRestingCuntface · 27/09/2016 19:14

If anyone is into scary shit like this the The Dungeon Of Terror Isle Of Wight Doll Museum is for you.

It's hideous. And enclosed. And underground. It's fucking evil. Proper evil.

Blerg · 27/09/2016 19:17

As a teen, DH worked in a shop that sold porcelain dolls. He was constantly having to admire them with the customers and actually thought they were dead creepy.

If one fell and broke or arrived with a smashed face they kept the body and sent for a new head 😱

Farmmummy · 27/09/2016 19:41

Holy fuck dolls clowns and jesters scare the bejeezus out of me so my reaction would have been way ruder than yours op. Main thing is you don't have the creepy thing anywhere near your house or dd

TaterTots · 27/09/2016 21:04

Pediophobia is the fear of dolls. Use that, sound all medical and that

I'm not sure that's a good idea with the OP's track record. She could be trying to say 'I'm a pediophobe' and blurt out 'You're a paedophile!'

liz70 · 27/09/2016 21:21

Relax, MNers. Thorny and I are getting on just fine.

badg3r · 27/09/2016 21:34

Oh my god. I can never unsee this thread.

GingerIvy · 27/09/2016 21:40

Sick. You're all sick. Hmm

ZippyNeedsFeeding · 27/09/2016 21:41

I've heard the Robert the Doll story. Not at all creepy. Nuh-uh. No Sir. Perfectly safe for just before bedtime.

YolandiFuckinVisser · 27/09/2016 21:57

DD was once given a doll's head when she was about 3, she loved it & carried around with her, took it to bed with her etc. It wasn't a girls world, just a tiny tears type doll without a body. One of its eyes didn't open properly and DD liked drawing "tattoos" on its cheeks. It was hideous.
