to secretly get rid of our kitten and tell the DC that it ran away?

Have had kitten for around 6 weeks now. DC have wanted a pet for a long time and I gave in and got one for them. Cats are easier to deal with than dogs right?

Well today, I have had enough. I had have to scoop 3 lots of shit out of the litter box and there was a piece of shit on the floor that must have come off her paws and which means that the whole house, and sofa is now covered in cat shit germs Envy puke!

It also runs up the curtains which are now all pulled. My leather --look- dining chairs have scratch marks where it keeps jumping up the back of them and it has pulled up the carpet on the stairs.

DS (6) is constantly chasing it round the house with an incessant cackle (over excited, not cruelly, the cat loves him) which does my head in and keeps taking it upstairs to lie on his bed.

Last week, it has a runny arse and I still have the wounds where I had to bath it, not before it spread kitty shit germs everywhere again.

As a side note, I also suffer from OCD. Not 'a bit' but actually diagnosed.

I love my DCs to bits but they also love the kitty a lot. I am not sure I can put them first this time!

WIBU to find a good home for it and tell them it ran off into the forest and I couldn't find it

tbh if you have OCD then you should not have got a kitten....
I think it would be really mean to get rid now, but if you feel you have to, go ahead. But could you put up with the crying and questioning? Would you be able to maintain your lie, without cracking?

Sorry the scooping of 3 lots of poo was 3 consecutive loads. I also scoop as soon as she's done it but she still trails it out. I have tried laying in wait until she comes out of the tray and wiping her paws but quite often I miss it. The damn thing quite often waits until I am just off to bed to drop some which I have to clear up straight away.

The kitten is housetrained by the sounds of it so I can't see what the issue is (not that I would say to get rid of it even if it wasn't).

Bathing a cat is a really bad idea AFAIK. I would definitely not attempt it with mine- would probably lose a hand.

Yes, the poor cat would probably be better off in a home with somebody who knows about normal kitten behaviour and who spends less time worrying about kitty germs but more time teaching their children animal appropriate behaviour.

Find a reputable rescue and give the cat a chance of a happy life.

Fucking hell. Surely you knew yourself well enough 6 weeks ago to know that a cat was not for you? Confused and how exactly did you expect the shit to get out of the litter box if you weren't expecting to lift it out?

No you can't just throw the poor thing out. It's a tiny baby. It's vulnerable.
Good God you wouldn't just abandon a child because it got too much to look after.
As pp said. You must have known how hard it would be before you got the kitten.

anyway you can train a cat very easily to go outdoors, maybe do that, rather that get rid?

Could you get a self cleaning litter tray and a mat to put in front of it to help with paws? The self cleaning trays are not cheap, but it might save your kids upset.

That's the way it is with a new kitten but it gets much easier. The problem is your OCD. How can you learn to cope better?

I think you shouldn't have got the cat in the first place as it seems like it is displaying perfectly normal kitten behaviour which you can't cope with due to your OCD. If you must re home the cat then do so but I think you should take ownership of the choice and not lie to your kids.

Christ shit like this really annoys me. Cats are work like it or not. Are you playing with it to work out excess energy? You have to do that twice a day or they claw fuck out of everything. Does it have somewhere to scratch?

Are you feeling like you are having an anxiety flare up? Because these are not insurmountable pet problems and totally normal.

This is going to sound rude but either you're overly stressed in which case we can help take through coping methods and reassure you kittens mature, or you were totally idiotic before you got the kitten in which case it is fair to regime whilst he is still young and has a decent chance of finding somewhere.

1 - soft poos are normal as you sort out an appropriate diet and he eats odd things or has a tummy bug. That will improve

2 - your cat may love your son and your son may love the cat but it is cruelty when he chases him and you must not allow it.

Why didn't you think properly before getting the cat? It's ok to say NO to your children no matter how much they want any pet

You clearly don't want the cat so find it a good home where somebody will love it and take good care of it

If your OCD means you can't cope with a cat then so be it - pity you didn't work it out before you got one. But it would be very cruel to tell your DC it's run away - they could hope for months that it might come back and worry for years about whether it was lonely or trapped or starving, As you so rightly say, it would be evil.
