To think I'm not unreasonable to tell sister no to this baby name?

Loveheart Belle Princess.

That is what my sister has decided the baby shall be called. She refuses to accept that I have said no and has started to refer to her as that.

Her argument is that it's a really pretty name, princesses are cool and she can call her love for short which is nice.

I think at 6 she is old enough to be told fuck no and be banned from naming anything Grin

Or am I missing out and will regret not using said name?!

I really thought you were going to use Derek as a middle name.

DerekSprechenZeDick · 22/09/2016 11:08

Dereque has been suggested elsewhere on here Grin

She will call the baby Loveheart Belle Princess; she will tell everyone at school that is what the baby is called. You might as well save yourself a lot of hassle and go with it.

At that age I called my doll Ribena Blackcurrant (have totally outed myself if anyone in my family reads this !!) so it could be a lot worse than Loveheart Grin

Yorkieheaven · 22/09/2016 11:17

My dss called their baby sister plop.

She's 17 now and they still refer to her as plop. Grin

Butteredparsn1ps · 22/09/2016 11:19

Actually better than a pet. It always makes me laugh when I see some great big lump of a bloke chasing a tiny (and it is always tiny) dog, shouting twinkle toes or similar.

children - not so bad Grin

It's a beautiful name but I feel would be made even more beautiful with the addition of Crystal in there somewhere.

DS called his baby doll Chilli con Carne. It's exotic innit. I was quite disappointed when he changed it to Daisy a few years later.

My dh at aged 4 named his little brother whilst his mum was still in hospital he went around telling everyone his name was Timmy (after Timmy Mallet) que all the presents cards arriving congratulations on the birth of Timmy! His parents had decided on David but on his mums arrival home she decided it was easier to keep Timmy.
His brother hated his name and my DH response has always been "count yourself lucky it was Timmy my other favourite person was Meatloaf"

I knew a little girl whose big sister insisted she should be called Sticky. Although that wasn't her legal name, it was the name everyone used - I guess it just stuck!
She'd be in her twenties now. I wonder if she still gets called Sticky. It would be great if she was on MN and could let us know.

JohnnyMcGrathSaysFuckOff · 22/09/2016 11:44

My mother called all her babies in utero 'Hercules'. We are all girls.

ALemonyPea · 22/09/2016 11:46

Sounds like something Jamie Oliver or Katie Price would name their child. Does your sister drive around in a Land Rover and wear jodhpurs at all?

DerekSprechenZeDick · 22/09/2016 11:53

If she could she would have a bright pink land rover and live in dresses not jodhpurs. At 6 she's a bit young to drive though Grin

EmpressKnowsWhereHerTowelIs · 22/09/2016 12:27

Call her Fanjolina.

allegretto · 22/09/2016 12:37

When my brother was born I told everyone he was called Brian - I was 4. He's not called Brian btw and it didn't catch on.

Juanbablo · 22/09/2016 12:39

When I was expecting dc3 our dd came up with some names that she thought we should call the baby.

  1. Mango Chocolate Fart
  2. White Fluffy Wuffy
  3. Doc McStuffins

She couldn't understand why we went with a different name.

DerekSprechenZeDick · 22/09/2016 12:46

mango chocolate fart

I think I've found my baby name!

I let DD name DS - she was 8 at the time, and going through something of a religious phase (not entirely sure why, but it was certainly better than the pretending-to-be-a-horse-at-all-times phase!) but we gave her a shortlist of names which ex-P and I'd carefully fought over selected to choose from. She picked a classic name which tied in with our faith, quite nicely.

However, having said that, like Kerala's DD, when mine was 5 she refused to answer to her actual name and insisted on being called 'Bartholomew'. When my DS was 3, he decided that his name was 'Poppy Imogen' (I blame his sister reading to him, to be honest) which, because he had long hair at the time, and it was quite curly, and his eyelashes are very long and thick (both his sister and I're quite jealous), led to some very interesting conversations with strangers. They'd compliment me on my pretty little daughter... and such a pretty name... and he'd pipe up with "no, I'm a boy!". I spent much of my 20s and 30s in a state of constant bemusement... but he still answers to "Poppy" and he's 12 now (his comfort bear is called Bartholomew, which pleased his sister).

Mind you, DB2's wife-at-the-time suggested that they allow my then-3 year old nephew to help name his little sister. He was a huge fan of The Tellietubbies (in their original conception) and decided that she had to be called 'La-La'. Even after she'd been born and had been given a very normal name, he'd insist on calling her 'La'La'. Drove his parents mad! Grin

Rockfuckingbottom · 22/09/2016 13:14

There was an article in the guardian once about mothers choosing names based on how they felt at the moment of birth.

I can tell you that my DD pissing-hell-have-i-shit-myself appreciates her yoonique name.

Allaboutthatbase · 22/09/2016 13:18

On asking for name suggestions for dc5 from the older children, dc3 said "Oh gosh mummy, there are too many names to remember already, I think you should just stick with "the baby"! Had to laugh at that, and as our last dc, I'm sure she will be "the baby" for many years to come!

Booboostwo · 22/09/2016 14:17

DD wanted to name her cousin Fraoulitsa (little strawberry in Greek) but we let her name the kittens Princess and The Knight instead.

Thurlow · 22/09/2016 14:21

DD, 4.5, suggested Goggins, King Seaweed, Mrs Octopus, Gentleman, and Diddly Sidebug.

I'm beginning to regret not going with one of those.

whattodowiththepoo · 22/09/2016 14:42

I might have caught diabetes from that name.

MrsKoala · 22/09/2016 14:50

Ds1 (4) is telling everyone - including me and dh - quite insistently, that our upcoming arrival is called 'pockets full of Rosies' . He is going to be disappointed!

yumscrumfatbum · 22/09/2016 14:53

My DS wanted to call his baby sister "Donald and Douglas the engines" she is turn insisted on calling her baby sister Margaret which she felt was better than the moniker we had given her
