Was invited to a wedding and have since received an email from the bride telling me that all guests are forbidden from wearing a hay or fascination?
Wtf?
Does this actually happen now?

Awaits further interesting thread developments
I judge people who say 'simples', just as I do anyone who says 'it does what it says on the tin'. Don't care.

CockacidalManiac · 21/09/2016 12:52

Forgot that puts things in bold. I've been away too long, obviously.

Got to place mark to watch the bunfight between Haggis and the op. Why is Haggis so anti the op? How does she know whether she's been invited or not? Come on Haggis. Spill the beans.

JudyCoolibar · 21/09/2016 13:00

Get together with as many as possible of the other guests, smuggle in collapsible hats, and at an agreed signal everyone put them on.

PlasticBertrand · 21/09/2016 13:00

You need a job lot of these op.

My daughter had a very definite B&W & Pink theme for her wedding, and when she did the invites, she composed a little rhyme about how the colours were her favourites, and how they would be thrilled if guests wanted to wear those colours too.....every single one did, very happily!
It all looked gorgeous, and guests found it easy to buy/put together their outfits.....shows it's all about how you do the asking!

JudyCoolibar · 21/09/2016 13:03

Haggis, how do you know OP's name?

SuperFlyHigh · 21/09/2016 13:06

gets out popcorn and deckchair and gin parks backside down

MiddleClassProblem · 21/09/2016 13:07

I'm guessing Haggis is basis findings on the op's child ratio plus the wedding and an in depth knowledge of the guest list Hmm

DarkLikeVader · 21/09/2016 13:08

You need a hairdresser who can do your hair like this then OP

SerenDippitee · 21/09/2016 13:08

Ooh - I came in to tell the anecdote of a wedding where we were invited to spend £50 PER GUEST on a costume in lieu of gifts (Hmm) in order to fit with the very specific historical theme - but I see that the thread has moved on...

jb007 · 21/09/2016 13:11

I don't understand all the consternation about being told NOT to wear a hat. If you were being instructed to wear one it would involve extra expense and not everyone wears hats. In other wedding threads the bride is always encouraged to do what she wants as its HER day. Who's to say it's the brides choice anyway? It might be her fiancé who doesn't want people wearing hats. At the end of the day does it really matter?? There are more important things to get worked up about Hmm

Wdigin2this · 21/09/2016 13:18

Come on Haggis you have to tell us how you know who the OP is, and why you're certain she's not even invited?!

mazylou · 21/09/2016 13:19

Shameless place marking.

AcrossthePond55 · 21/09/2016 13:27

My guess is that Haggis is Hat Bridezilla's sister or BFF.

Or an ex-gf of OP's DH.

tribpot · 21/09/2016 13:28

There are more important things to get worked up about this isn't really the philosophy of AIBU, jb007 Grin

NatalieRushman · 21/09/2016 13:29

My money's on Haggis being the bride.

MrsHathaway · 21/09/2016 13:31

Just what sort of hat would one wear in November in Aberdeen? A beanie hat. Also suitable for June, July and August in Aberdeen.

::howls::

I don't think the OP needs to be invited to pass comment on the content of the invitation, like the other 100 or so of us here who are commenting.

I agree with pps that it's fine for a bride to say she doesn't want people wearing hats or fascinators not least because they aren't commonly worn nowadays except to formal occasions, so although some people might like them, they don't need to wear one. If she had stipulated no trousers, in an attempt to get all the men to wear kilts, that would have been unreasonably restrictive!
