To think too many people have Costa or Starbucks as an accessory

A rather stylish women I work with seems to have a costa cup superglued. I never see her drink from it although coffee is present inside. I just don't get why some people always seem to have a coffee cup is it a snobbery thing?

Well if you could see people coming in at work with their Costa coffee (so many of them since a drive thru has opened near by), you would be forgiven to think that yes the brands Costa (and Starbuck) are a fashion accessory.
Have a look too at the insulated cup with Costa written on it, the cups with Starbuck on (plenty of them at Christmas time). Clearly these are two brands that are good to be seen with.

And yes of course, some people (like my own parents) love the coffee from Starbuck or get them once every two months in a special occasions.
But SOME people don't. It's a coffee everyday displayed prominently on the desk rather than yo pour own coffee/tea as they had been doing for years before (and wo any issue either).

TBH, I'd rather be them than me. It must be costing them a fortune!

yorkshapudding · 18/09/2016 17:21

Intrigued as to how you hold a coffee cup "just so"...what does that mean? How many ways can you actually hold a cup of takeaway coffee? Confused

Are they ostentatiously waving it around or something? Holding it aloft like a trophy? Or maybe holding it daintily with their little finger extended?

I need to know so that next time I fancy a coffee while I'm out and about I can ensure I'm holding my cup in a suitably modest fashion.

bumblingbovine49 · 18/09/2016 17:23

Well i don't give a monkeys if anyone thinks I am pretentious, I can't stand instant coffee. There I have said it. It is rank and I am not going to drink it unless I have to. Though my cafffeine addiction is such that I do drink instant if it is all that is on offer.

I buy coffee from Starbucks or Costa because in the morning I need the caffeine to get me through the morning and I rarely have time to make a decent cup int he morning. I also bring rground coffee to work and have a cup filter so that I can make coffee from ground beans. This is because I like to make a hot drink 2-3 times day, because I crave the coffee and because I need a regular short breaks from my drudge of a job and as I have said instant coffee is rank. I drink the odd cup of tea too but I never crave it the way I do coffee.

I like caffeine, it is my drug of choice and has been for over 40years, it has nothing to do with it being "cool" or anything like that. It is nice to be able to buy coffee in more places nowadays (though it is quite expensive).

I agree OP. I think I may be missing something as I have never, ever walked round drinking a cup of coffee. If I want a coffee I sit down for one, if I'm much much too important and busy busy busy to sit down I go without the coffee. I think it's got pangs of look at just how wonderfully full and busy my life is that I can't actually stop but must actually drink this hot beverage containing caffeine to keep me going

hobnobsaremyfavourite · 18/09/2016 17:25

Is there anything at all that I am allowed to do?

KatieScarlett · 18/09/2016 17:26

Nonono, you can't wave it around!
Not unless the frothy brown splodge around the sleeve look is actually in this season.

Sallystyle · 18/09/2016 17:31

Hang on, since when do you need to let Costa/Starbucks cool down?

They are never hot. I can get a coffee and gulp it straight now as it is so not hot.

squoosh · 18/09/2016 17:33

I blame Ally McBeal.

expatinscotland · 18/09/2016 17:35

I buy coffee out maybe a couple of times a year. It's overpriced. And mine's better doncha know. I have a coffeemaker and definitely consider my Contigo an accessory.

SchnitzelVonKrumm · 18/09/2016 17:37

Aren't Costa and Starbucks both a bit downmarket to be used as an accessory?

But how do I get it to my seat on the train if I don't walk about carrying it Grin

Jacques, you should cover it with some sort of oversized scarf or decant it into a sensible looking thermos of course. Who do you think you are brazenly walking about with your extravagant coffee on display? Grin

MalbecAndLindt · 18/09/2016 17:55

The only time I ever drink coffee from Starbucks or Costa is during the Christmas season when they have all the lovely different flavoured ones. I do like to treat myself at least one other twice when I do a solo shopping trip but go in for a sit down, have a coffee, maybe a sandwich and always a cake. I do also occasionally meet friends in Costa as it's central to us but then I tend to have a hot chocolate. I much prefer the coffee of a local independent coffee shop near to where I work. That being said, I literally drink coffee a handful of times a year.

I muuuuuch prefer tea, but I refuse to buy tea out as it's always grey and rancid, hence I usually have hot chocolate, or a coffee a few times a year.

I consider myself suitably chastened. My thrice yearly Costa thrill shall henceforth be covered. I'm wondering if a large throw would suffice. Decanting is not the best plan. The floor would be covered Grin

CodyKing · 18/09/2016 17:58

I muuuuuch prefer tea

Me too

Shall we start a trend with China cup and saucer - fancy biscuit??

Will it catch on?

tibbawyrots · 18/09/2016 18:03

What about the bags, book folders and PE kit and the art model made from junk they expect you to carry

I never carried my DD's school bags, ever! Mainly because I was on my way home from work with my own hands full - but it taught her responsibility to carry her stuff home. It was also school policy to ask parents not to carry the bags for the same reason.

I was also strict about her scooter etc, if she wanted to take it out then she had to look after it the whole time and not expect to chuck it at me so she could run instead.

Mean mum emoticon Grin

tibbawyrots · 18/09/2016 18:04

Oh and back to the thread - I prefer tea, too! 😄

ayeokthen · 18/09/2016 18:05

DP buys so many coffees from Costa that he gets 2 or 3 free a week off their points system!

ILostItInTheEarlyNineties · 18/09/2016 18:13

I never carried my dd's school bags ever!

Well that's me told Blush. Not even the junk model with an eggbox glued to the side?

Sometimes I even carried them home if they were really tired Grin

Cody I love your idea of starting a trend with a fancy cup and saucer. (Biscuit on the side.)

CodyKing · 18/09/2016 18:17

Damn - Lady GaGa got there first!

Was hoping for something a little less high maintenance -

To think too many people have Costa or Starbucks as an accessory
WaitroseCoffeeCostaCup · 18/09/2016 18:19

Better than a cigarette, probably.

ILostItInTheEarlyNineties · 18/09/2016 18:32

You could take inspiration from Ga Ga's gloves though. They would at least give you some protection from the scalding hot drink you're carting about.

headinhands · 18/09/2016 18:32

Yy. I remember when take away coffee first became trendy and it occurred to me that the people parading about with Starbucks would have never previously wandered about with a mug of coffee they'd made at home. I wonder what's next? Cereal shops resulting in people wandering about with bowls of Weetabix? Alpen?

Memoires · 18/09/2016 18:36

I have one coffee a day 3 times a week - that's a whole 3 cups a week. And it's instant, Nescafe I think.

is there no hope for me? we have a Nespresso machine at home but only dh uses it
